If you're interested in a netbook with a little more horsepower, check out the acer aspire 1410. http://photo.net/digital-darkroom-forum/00VCna
I've been able to use mine for some light work in lightroom as well as the typical web surfing. Love the form factor and small size.

I'm just shocked that they named Kolb the starter. Not saying that Vick is any better, but still.

PCarfan,
How much weight do you think it can hold reliably? Would this work with zooms as well?
I'm a fan of long exposure shots, and this would be great for backpacking.

Quick tip for those experiencing lens creep. Find one of those Lance Armstrong "livestrong" yellow rubberbands and slip it over the lens. I place it over the section that says "pentax 18-250." The rubber will create extra friction on the barrel and limit the amount of creep.

I'm just starting out, so I've tried to keep costs low.
1) General Purpose - cheap ebay Carbon Fiber (Fancier branded) tripod with Manfrotto 486 ball head. Light enough to carry around all day w/out too much pain.
2) backpacking / travel - Slik sprint mini II. A bit short (chest level), but good enough to keep weight down for my backpacking trips and when I travel abroad.

Wow, didn't know that feature was available. I'll have to try it out. Thanks.

I believe wiping it down with a damp towel a few times should be sufficient.

Not sure if this is an option, but you may want to consider getting the 18-250 superzoom. I initially went down the kit + 50-200 route, but ended selling it and going with the superzoom for convenience.

I think it really depends on what kind of photography you'll be doing and how you normally use your camera.
If you tend to shoot in P mode or not mess with metering, bracketing, focus points, etc too regularly, I'd just stick with the Kx. I just upgraded to a Kx after using a K10d for the past 3 yrs, and both cameras have their pros/cons.
Kx: smaller, AAA battery, lighter, way better iso, faster AF
K10d: front/back dials, weather seals, AF indicators

Nice review.
How convenient is it to access your gear? It looks like the camera access is through the back of the bag only. Do you have to take off the entire backpack to access the camera gear?

mine is set to auto 200-5000.
For those that use the extended iso range, do you see better quality with iso100?

I would suggest the sigma 10-20 as well.
Visited Athens a few months ago, and the 10-20 was great for landscapes and the archeological sites.

if you're looking for a netbook like form factor, you might want to check out the acer aspire 1410. It uses a Intel® Core™2 Solo Processor SU3500 so it's faster than your typical atom powered netbook. I love mine and have used it for lightroom. Not as fast as my quadcore desktop, but it works when I'm traveling.

Hey Guys,
This may be a dumb question, but is there a way to have my K-x turn on with the LCD backlight off by default? I'd like to prolong battery life, and for some reason I'm able to do this on my girlfriend's K2000.

I agree with CWyatt , but you can't go wrong either way. Just keep in mind that white will get more attention (both wanted and unwanted).
