I like the look of that first shot, every time I see it I think it's a shot of a miniature.

One from experimenting with the 06 and on-board flash. I like his hair long, but the wife wants it cut. Her dog, her call I guess.

Firmware Update K-5 V1.14

Thought I'd add my 2 cents. V1.13 my AF fine adjustments were set between +4 and +10 for the three lenses I have left. The DA*55, DFA100mm/WR and the DA*300mm. Oddly they'd need re-adjustment at random intervals, sometimes the next day, no idea why and that part I'll continue to watch. However I updated today to 1.14, and so far with random testing of the three lenses (indoors, over a couple hrs with multiple lens changes) I've not had to manually refocus yet after AF lock. Currently option 26 is turned Off:) for the first time since I've owned it! I'm hoping I can leave it that way and put this headache behind me:) At this point I'm not prepared to say any of them focus faster, just a lot more accurately.

It shouldn't matter, but I did resets (all three places) before I upgraded, not after.

A spellchecker meltdown...

I stand not alone, I had mulitple partners in this Qrime, many of this Qmmunity. I wasn't Qrious when the Q first released. Maybe it was the Qazy price at release, maybe simply focused about upgrading to the K5 when it's price dropped. I started reading and seeing all the Q8tive posts from the Qser Qontinuum and started gaining a little Qmentum towards this Quriously small Qamera. But the price was making me Qezy. Then came the Qews that the Qte'n was to be released soon and the Q prices tanked, and new Qware with great features. I ordered the white Q 01/02 kit and became a Qser (damn Qool-aid). Four price adjustments later I was a Qlated Qser. Soon after aQmulation started: K2Q adapter, the 06 zoom and a c-mount 68-412mm f1.9 (that's Qview, 12.5-75mm actualy), batteries, caps, case, Qfinder, Qpod, etc... Then the GroupOn Qenzy and I became a Qnfused dual Qser, I must have been Qazy to buy another Q (damn QBA).

It was a black body and in time the wife- she noticed. She.. had no Qriousity at all, said I was Qazy. At least I didn't put it on a Qedit Qard I Qried! Still, She didn't Qare that my shoulders didn't hurt Qarrying this minusQel kit, she didn't believe that I was hoping she'd drink the Qool-aid take her pick to become a Qser and take her place in the Qontinuum. She'd had nothing to do with any of my exQuses and... I promptly became a Qasterated Qser. So now no matter how inQitive my idea, or how Q8tive my image, I no longer have the balls err.. Qage to post them for the Qontinuum. I must find a Qurious Qbert and recruit him/her into the Qontinuum as a Qlated Qser (Qpid where are you!!). Only then can I become Qsolo again, and make Qmends with the Qanky wife.

...and the 03FE should be here tomorrow... Qrap!

Another from Michigan:), Welcome. Try looking around here , there's many articles written from the beginner and up. It's aimed at dSLR owners, but many of the same principles apply to the Q. Start with beginner tips and go from there.

Ok I cheated and just used the Snipping Tool in Win7 that I forgot about. I like CutePDF because it installs itself as a device, anytime you print something you can choose that or your standard printer (which is dead in my case), it's just handy and simple (normally).

Thanks for your replies

Win7 with the standard free adobe pdf viewer. I updated the the CutePDF Writer, but still get the same nasty results. For now I'll have to do it the old school way as Larry mentioned.

At the moment that's the only option I see. I use CutePDF the print stuff like that. Works great, except on the GroupOn site. I just get an exploded copy of that webpage that's 4 pages long, and doesn't resemble a receipt that I'd be comfortable sending if the Q needed service. I the past I've always gotten an exact copy of what I seeing on screen with CutePDF, it's been a great paper/ink saver. I disable all aspects of Java with the recent scare over it, wonder if that's causing the issue:hmm: will have to go check. In the meantime I sent them an email about a receipt, the responce was a canned we'll get back to you in 48hrs.

I figured you could, so I ordered one once I got the shipping email from groupon. But, now my question is where it the receipt from groupon? Did you get one with your Q? Wasn't nothing in the box, nor anything other than a shipping notice email from them...

Took me about 1000 shots of fighting it, but I broke down an ordered the fish-eye yesterday. I used to have a sigma 16mm for the K7, I didn't use it a lot. But not long after I sold it I did start to miss having it. Their a nice lens to have on hand and with the Q it will be on hand more often.

OM glass suggestions

I don't own any Oly glass, but if I did then I consider trying. There's an adapter on fleebay (the RJ model. Not an endorsement) for $33.xx with free shipping (but from China). It includes the tripod mount (which you'd want) and Appears to have a tab to hold the aperture linkage in the active state. If that's true, then the metering would be live as you turn the aperture ring. If you updated the firmware then SR would work as well. The primes you have are likely the best candidates, provided you thought they were sharp (enough for you) with whatever camera you had them on. $33 is a pretty low risk adventure, and it's part of the fun with the Q

Let us know how it goes if you give it a try.

06 lens ?

From the above post you can now see where I was reffering to. I'm pretty sure you'd agree that this wouldn't really help shim out the inner barrel itself. If someone was going to try a front mounted TC, I'd personally look for one as close to 40.5mm tread as you can get.

06 lens ?

Here ya go, it's really pretty simple. I spent more time watching how the lens works to make sure a shim could be used safely, than making the shim. And umm.. in my defense, I screwed up a little today. Left (part of) my Q kit sitting on my desk, as I forgot the wife had a contractor coming over to blow some insulation into the attic. So, after I post these quick and literally dirty shots:o, I'm off to do A LOT of clean up.. Didn't notice they blow that much dust around until I took these. Access to the attic is in my office/computer room...

This is the shim obviously removed from the lens. As you might be able to make out, I cut it from the edge of the page protector, leaving the welded seem intact.

Here it's half installed

This is pretty much fully installed. You can see it pretty well because the flash was used. Normally it would go un-noticed.

If you should need to remove it, a sewing needle(pin) can be used to lift the edge of it.

If you plan to make one, my advice would be to leave a couple times wider than the ring so you can remove it easy. My taste for the desired resistance will likely to be different than anyone else's. You could alter the resistance by making it longer or shorter, not to mention your choice of material to use may be a different thickness to start with. I choose the page protector because it was on hand and durable. Using something made from paper is probably a bad idea.

Not at the mount, look at the front of the lens. I just placed a thin strip in the gap along the inside diameter of the focus ring. Yes, half pressing the shutter does cancel the MF assist feature, but that didn't help the zero dampening of the ring. I know it's focus by wire but it could have been dampened, and could have been made thicker to stop the flex (they did it on the 02).

I've had mine about 3 weeks, even though I pre-ordered. Had issues with the 1st, severe electrical failure. The replacement has been working fine, and it's a great lens for the Q. I wish it shared the build quality of the 02 zoom as far as the barrel construction goes. I really don't like the flex in the focus ring, feels cheap. I shimmed mine with a couple strips from a plastic page protector, and it's much better. Doesn't flex anymore and has just a touch more resistance during MF than the 02. Shimming also fixed my second complaint about it, If you use the MF (2X/4X) feature on the Q you'll notice that while zooming it will jump into the magnified MF assist view. Even if your being extra careful not to touch the focus ring, any damping of the focus ring just isn't there and turning the zoom ring will at times cause it to move just enough to trip the MF assist. The shim isn't a prefect solution, but it's at least removable and doesn't require taking the lens apart. I really don't think it would have cost that much for Pentax to build that part of the lens the right way.

Over-all I'm happy with it, and you can't beat it's size for what it is :)

OK, that leaves you with sending it in for service. Pentax can map the sensor easy enough but the rear LCD will likely need to be replaced. They may just replace the camera, if they have any left after the groupon blowout.

OK, so it is the sensor then. Odd that sensor mapping didn't catch it. How long have you had it? And have you tried updating the firmware, then mapping the sensor again?
