First, this was a blind test, which was specified numerous times in the video.
Secondly, more popular lines tend to have much lower margins, as they are generally easier to sell. Less popular brands typically have higher margins, to make it worthwhile for stores to continue to stock them.
Finally, I find it abrasive that you would immediately suspect us of stacking the deck against your chosen brand. Working for TCS, I think one of the reasons we're still doing well in a declining market is that we do try to match a photographer's needs and shooting style to right gear. That's why we continue to sell a good amount of Pentax, and always have. Also, TCSTV is one of the few YouTube channels that consistently tries to check out new Pentax/Ricoh gear. The store has no editorial control over our content,they just access to pretty much any gear we need for testing, and support us on social media.

Wpresto, I love that family story. My mom took some very good pictures with her box Brownie, as well. I took her fishing the day after her 90th birthday, and she caught more and bigger fish with her worm and cane pole than I did with my rod and spincast reel, too!

I have the CC subscription and consider it well worth the $10 monthly charge. I mostly use Lightroom and the price is about what you would pay for the stand alone version LR plus you get Photoshop. I previously used Elements to do the stuff LR didn't. I never liked Gimp. I tried it way back and found it difficult. I'll freely admit to being a total noob at that point and after a few years of learning to use PP software, I would probably do better with Gimp today but at $10 a month to have constantly updated, state of the art PP software is a hard deal to pass. I know there are people who hate Adobe, hate the whole idea of the software subscription model and they'll likely chime in with their "it's just as good as..." alternatives.
While the subject of LBA has been a running joke for years, a lot of us have a ton of editing software we have accumulated over time. Besides Photoshop and Lightroom CC, and Elemnets, I have several plug ins, Perfect Effects, Noiseware, Portrait Professional, a couple of Silkypix versions, Picasa, all on my computer. I have other software on my iPad and phone. I know I've probably left out something. I cleaned up my hard drive and removed some stuff I don't use any more. Lightroom gets the most use, probably 98% of the time. I also have a Wacom tablet, the Spyder 4 calibration system, and a wide carriage Canon printer, a Canon film and slide scanner and the software and drivers for all that stuff. Start adding it all up and the $10 subscription looks even better.

While I have never personally received a comment along those lines, such "Well, we shoot with what we can" BS would most likely come from posers rather than serious photographers, I guess. Therefore, it should be fairly easy to explode their snobbery by steering the conversation from the gear to the actual photography: "Gee, with such great gear as yours, you must have tons of gorgeous shots. Bet you share your best photography somewhere, or ... does it exist?"
I trust that would shut most of them up.
In actual experience, I have been taken to be a pro on several occasions - which I am definitely not - just because people watched me using a serious-enough-looking K-7 or K-3 in confident ways. In some of the earlier instances, with the kit lens mounted. Maybe they noticed me using that funny little lens hood thingy which only pro photographers have on their fancy lenses ... :D

I thought I would start a thread that is inspired by the age old question "I'm going to be in "Name that City", what should I shoot?"
What I would like to see is a couple of pictures from your corner of the world that shows the photo-ops available.
Here in Dayton, Ohio, one of the biggest tourist attractions is the National Museum of the United States Air Force. Entry to the museum is free.

For those with younger kids, I always recommend Carriage Hill Metro Park, which is a working historical farm. It has farm animals, a blacksmith shop, wood working shop, farm house, and barn you can go into. They also do seasonal demonstrations of planting, harvesting, sheep shearing, and much, much more. Again, there is no charge to visit.

Even the big birds are hard to catch in flight. I have tried many shots, and even with AF They are not easy. I use a 650-1300 and a 500 cat, and both are manual Focus, and I get a lot of bad focus.

Hey again guys. This shot was taken back when I first really got serious about my photography and was addicted to bokeh ;) I do think the horizon could be straightened a tiny bit but I'd like your thoughts on the general composition and processing.

Hi All,
My wife and I drove down to Niagara Falls today. Being absolutely freezing, the place was a ghost town which made photo opportunities easy. It was amazing to see how it has frozen over. The USA Falls is almost completely frozen with the Canadian Falls only partially frozen. Here are a few snaps I got.

Ever since reading the link on PF about "Snowflake Photography" I was hooked. After many hours out in the bone-chilling cold trying to hone my skills, I've managed to get a fair number of "keepers". My favorite lens combo is a reversed old Vivitar 28mm lens with 36mm extension tube, hand-held, no flash. That's all the magnification I can handle with the thin DOF.
It's been a fun "project" for the winter, but I'm glad Spring is only 30 days away. :)

Taken out on the ice of Hudson's Bay with one view looking back at the Cape Dorset itself. The moon was waxing at around 68% so lots of light from it; it also moved a bit during the 11 seconds of exposure but I sort of liked the effect. And darned cold. I don't worry too much in the daytime but at night, I always wonder where the nearest polar bear is. But I guess if he sneaks up, it's too late to worry anyway. The other thing that's a bit nerve-raking is the noise the ice makes against the shore-line. In the last photo you can see the height of the ice plate; it's almost low-tide and as the pan sinks it makes these dreadful grinding noises that, if you are close enough, make you feel a little small. Like a close-up bear can make you feel :) Or a passenger on the Titanic, I suppose.
