Hey guys & girls
Thanks a lot for taking your time to offer all these possible causes and solutions. I know it would have been better if there would have been actual photos but as it goes I posted them in another thread and couldn't get them to repost in this thread. Next week I will be at the beach and will try to take a hard look at some of the things you all have pointed out to see what exactly will solve or minimize my problem. Thanks again for all your help. I really appreciate it.

I posted this in the Sigma 10-20 forum as well but I'm not sure if it's a lens or camera problem. I don't know it to be lens specific, although I have only noticed it using the mentioned lens. Recently I began noticing crazy overexposures when shooting at small apertures; the examples were shot at f16. This behavior isn't consistent. I have attached two images from a set of 15 photos I took Sunday, using identical settings on the lens and camera. The first 12 are so overexposed that I can't even recover the highlights, the last 3 are fairly well exposed. I am attaching the 12th and 15th of the series.
The attached images are all shot in with the K-7, RAW, Av Mode, ISO 100, Matrix Metering. The camera calculated a shutter speed of 1/80" for both images, which seems about right given the Sunny 16 rule but as you can see they are not even close.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any input.
OK, can't seem to get the images to attach...

Hello fellow 10-20 fans. I also love my copy of the 10-20; however, recently I began noticing crazy overexposures when shooting at small apertures.

Can anyone offer any suggestions? Am I even posting this in the correct thread? Maybe I will post it over in a K-7 thread as well.
Thanks in advance for any input.

I just bought the Pentax handstrap and it is a piece of crap. I broke it while installing it on the camera. The nylon straps are so much bigger than the lugs on the camera body that I pulled one of the tabs of pulling it through. There are no instructions for the thing. I can't believe Pentax would allow their name to be put on this garbage.

Isn't there a switch on those old lenses that leaves the aperture wide open all the time unless you're using a specific body? I haven't used Takumar lenses in a very long time and never with a K10 or 20D body. I'm just throwing that out there to maybe jump start someone else's train of thought

I wouldn't get too down on it yet. I am making the presumption that your camera is fairly new and still under warranty. Let the Pentax folks make it right for you. It's inevitable that an occassional dud gets out of the factory but from all I've heard Pentax service usually does a pretty good and fair job to make things right, either by repair or replacement. Good luck with everything.

I have this lens - U.S. version. It was really cheap ($130-$140) when I bought it a year ago and it's a really great lens. This is one I will probably never regret spending money on.

yeah yeah i now realize that.
i still don't think it's anyone's concern as to who is the U.S. president. if it were, they would be entitled to vote for their candidate of choice.

First of all, what is a 'Christianist'? Second, you're French, why the f*** do you care who gets elected president of the U.S.? Third, what does this have to do with Pentax or photography in general?

What is the FA50 1.8? Not that I'm an authority or anything but I've only ever heard of a FA50 1.4 and a F50 1.7...

The K100D does a better job of metering when using full manual lenses. That's something you should consider since you want to want to use your old lenses.

Are you sure you don't have something else to sell - dog, first-born son, etc. =P What a shame to let this beauty go.

but on the other hand, if it is something more major, you get the better still. but still, why not wait until it's been reasonably troubleshooted (is that a word?) before giving an estimate. knock on wood, i've never had to send a camera in for service in 27 years off and on of shooting pentax cameras

It never happened to me without the grip but has a couple of times with the grip. I echo the advice of the previous responses; turn the grip off and back on to clear the problem.

I'm in the US and experience the same phenomenon with regard to online v. local shop. Albeit to a lesser degree than you describe here it still exists. I'm just thankful to be living in the age of the internet where I have the option to compare prices at hundreds of retailers in mere minutes. An ideal situation for you guys to avoid paying that GST would be to have it shipped to someone in the US, who would in turn ship it on to you.

I guess that makes sense. Like I said, I've never bought anything used - other than my first couple automobiles - so I guess I don't really know their mentality. I wonder if my suggestion (N.American capitalism) is any worse than what the Chinese, etc. do when they offer their bargain priced inferiors goods on ebay and elsewhere but bill them as the equivalent of brand name merchandise?
