Will we see a K1 Mark 3?

Why should you throw away half the sensor, as far as i read it is a stacked sensor, therefore the storage pixels are below the sensitive pixels and the actual pixelsize is he same as with any other 25 Mpix sensors.
You are right there ist more electronics on the chip.

But even in a DSLR such a sensor would be nice, higher frame rates, soundless shutter, higher sync speed. Getting the full light isn't the only reason for higher sync speeds.

Roland Karlsson: Whats about a faster flash sync speed.
This sensortype is definitly interesting, there are also some other nice points with this sensor, aside the global shutter.

Why should the pixelsize be smaller as with any other 25 MP sensor?

we are talking about Pentax K1 succesor, therefore it schould be clear. FF.

That's a good Question, 6 years ago, there it may be a bit to early, but the K3 III could have it and the new K1 should have it.

I'm interested in this sensor with electronic shutter for higher repeating rates and longer series. (Sony 120 pics /sec). I don't need the 120 pic/sec but i'd like to get more than 8 pics/sec of the K1 - with long pauses -. with this sensortype, enough memory and fast processor there should be a possibilty for infinite pictures by 20 pics/sec without any pauses. The picture rate shoud be settable by the user - best in steps of one.

And focus stacking is simple if you step incremental from the start position to the end in "equidistant" steps, or you focus the first picture position mark this, you focus the last picture position mark it, and tell the camera how many steps you want to have - other manufacturer has this implemented since a while. There is no need for exact distance information

With the newly announced sony camera, it would be nice to get this sensor in the K1-III if the Iso quality is at least so good as with the k1. No rolling shutter woud be perfect
I would like to have an focus stacking within the camera. Some of the other specs should be transfered too

I am more than satisfied with the K1 but there is always room for improvements (more the 170000 pictures done with my K1-I)
  1. There is no need for a higher resolution, but I wouldn't mind - doubling the resolution of the K3 is the upper limit

  2. An improvement in the high ISO would be fine for concert photography

  3. High speed frame rate as least as the K3 would be fine

  4. Bigger Buffers for longer high speed sessions is a must, I would prefer unlimited pictures in raw mode (12 per second), the pauses at the K1 are more than boring

  5. A real fast transfers peed to the cards is a must

  6. A BSI sensor as in the K3-III would be fine

  7. Adapting all improvements of the K3 III is mandatory

  8. GPS must be kept, I'm doing town and landscape photography and I didn't like the GPS external adaption - K3 way - it's to bulky and no external trigger or flash is possible. maybe it can be moved to the battery grip

  9. A noiseless real electronic shutter with mirror up is a need

I'll prefer a fast card for at least two reasons.
- Fast exchange if full. I don't like to wait until the internal storage is emptied to my computer during an important phase. Switch cards ready. Several cards available, quick and easy
- Breakdown of the drone/ camera. How to access the last data internally?
- Removing card, assuring that no third person has access to my data (security personal, moving across borders always with no or empty card in.)

You must have a look on the engineering cycle. When there are rumors from a company about a new product, some of the fix points are frozen especially in the HW part. You can't exchange the sensor in the last 5 minutes before deliveríng. The Kati was on the road for four years up to now. Therefore the stable sensor technology from 2017 will be used.

I assume that the sensor Technology for a putative K1-III will be on the Level ob 2020.

I'm in the lucky situation, that I'm happy with my K1 and my K3. If I can go to festivals and concerts again, there may be a small need for the K3-iii. The money for that is already set aside. I think this may be possible by the end of the year and I hope that at this time the rumors for he K1-III will start. Therefore there is no masochism - for me

I'll think they will use the K3-III is also an test-case for the new K1.

There is a new processor an new rgb-ir sensor and a new accellerator unit.

If the Kati is successfull in a technical point of view, will will see rumors of new K1-III.

But it will take some time because they wont sell the the new top aps-c

Pentax K-1 ii Micro SD Card

I'm using an sandisc 256GB sdxc-micro in Slot 1 of my K1 as main-storage for round about two years.

For copying to the computer I use an external Card-reader and the card in the sd-Slot.
Because of the size (more than 5000 pictures raw) the card in the slot2 nearly gets no pictures anymore.
On concerts it may be roundabout 1500 pictures in 4 hours

I didn't have any Problems on my K1 (140 000 pictures) and K3 (85000 pictures).

What I don't understand - the mentioned improvement in the low ISO - I didn't know that there are any problems. Both K3 an K1 are doing an excellent job in low ISO.

Interesting would be real ISO Settings below 100 like 50 and 25.

Very interesting for me would be further improvements in high ISO Quality between 5000 and 25000.

How many lenses do you take when out photographing?

When I'm out just for fun than it is one lens 24-105.
When I'm going to concert 24-70 2.8 and 70.200 (when I got an accreditation)

When I'm on a photo-tour in a town or on holiday irix 11mm, 15-30, 24-70, 70-200 in a camera backpack - yes it is heavy and the strolling will last round about 3 hours. The 150-450 an a tripod in the car to take it with me when there is a need for.

He didn't ask explicit for regular use.

I said it is possible and I think it wouldn't damage the camera. I'm using a longer arca-swiss plate, I would never mount the camera directly with a 1/4 screw to a tripod,

To use it this way isn't the best solution, when I use the lens foot I have a better balance and less swinging of the system.

When trying to work on a more professional level, i would always mount the camera-lens system in balance to the tripod, and therefore using the foot.

I've used ist several times on a good tripod, using the body in the arca-swiss mount, because the foor was at home. It works fine, but swings more. But if the shake reduktion is on it work stille fine.

I would prefer the foot, but it works the other way round. With an arca-swiss plate the Body ist strong enough even to hold the 150-450 (forgotten the arca-plate for the lens) - it works, but mounted with the lens it works much better.

A way to measure batteries or chargers?
Posted By joergens.mi

Have a look at the Voltage. It should charge up 8.4 Volts.
And the number of shoots is not as bad as you think. You have your way to take photos, therefore the number you can take is typically for you. If a battery will have diverge more than 20 % from your typical count, it will be bad or not fully charged.
My charger shows me the mAH put to the battery and the Voltage.

The voltage of the battery can be seen in the exif Data of a picture. Therefore you can measure it, by taking a photo after charging. You can get the shutdown voltage if you look at the last picture before the camera shut down.

The K1 adds the coordinates and direction automatically. The K3 adds it automatically if the GPS Unit is mounted and switched on. External gps coordiantes can be added with the exif tools.

Simply sampled wishes from different forums, but only the wishes I'm interested in.

* Improvement in reducing the noise. The noise is already very good, but for concert photography at "night" you can afford more. Possibly by combining pixels
* The pixel count must not be increased
* Fast memory transfer to the cards, 25 MB / sec are clearly too little (100 MB / sec minimum). As fast as the fastest SD XC or faster
* Buffer for continuous shooting for at least 50 frames in Raw without pause

* A purely electronic shutter option for the successors of the K1 and K3 - logically only in the LV - to photograph really silently, currently the mechanical shutter is still moving.
* A way to focus hyperfocal.
* Focus bracketing, start position end position, number of steps at least up to 100, then the camera automatically takes a series of shots - analogous to bracketing
* GPS must be kept
* The GPS module altitude information is actually present are just not saved. (Addition: Here the track log is meant, to the include height and speed)

* Full remote control of the camera from a computer - emphasis on complete, so everything as if I use the trigger on the camera. It is not understandable, why only single shot actions are supported
* A modern functionable SW interface, to make good remote apps available, Programming Interface al la Magic Lantern
* A way to save all current settings of the camera including all user modes on the SD card and load. Back up different setups at home.
* One or two freely selectable positions on the dial button of the K1, which can be assigned with any custom function.
* The mode used to reintroduce the cleanliness of the sensor - why it did not work is incomprehensible to me.
* The ability to save all current settings of the camera including all user modes on the SD card and load. Back up different setups at home

* A mini-flash and if it is only to control correct flashes.
* lockable eyepiece
* For video cameras, there is the so-called video pin next to the 1/4 "thread, this synonymous with the cameras and battery handles offer (costs nothing helps but twisting)

* Active selection of the card to be written to
* if possible parallel writing on the two cards, both are simultaneously supported at maximum speed.
* USB 3.1 connection, maximum speed fully supported / maybe with charging the battery or as a continuous power supply (if that should go power consumption during operation).

* Joystick for AF field
* more AF fields and / or larger AF area

Have you ever tried to make a series of 3 pictures with the wifi app? It's impossible because only single shot photos are supported.

I don't understand why the have no mode in the app to do exactly the same thing as if you were pressing the release button on the camera.

I like the lcd screen. It fits 95 percent of my usage but sometimes I would like to have it turned a 180°. When I put the camera on the floor to take a UWW picture of the ceiling of a room, or put it directly to a wall to get the opposite wall or object. For all other cases i pref the K1 system because i keeps in line with the camera axis
