Over 60 degrees North ;) But you are right. I don't have GPS satellites over my head or in the north. Glonass would be better for me or if I could rig my camera to use DGPS. I accused my tripod because it is not sturdy enough for my camera and 1 kg objective. At least wind caused some vibrations in long exposure shots. Or it might have been that sea ice I was standing on and moving around my camera while it was taking a picture.

Nice info and thanks for detailed answer!

I'm leaning on this. That electronic compass can sometimes be pain in the arse. I try to keep everything electrical or metallic (phones etc.) things as far as possible from the camera. I'm also thinking that my K5 electronic level indicator is little bit off (or my sensor is degree or two tilted). So if that error affects on headings with O-gps then I need to upgrade my system sometime. Now I will go with these and try stacking. :)

I'm using google sky map with my phone on site.

I need to get back in action this winter.. so many good pictures. Why I can't get as good as those :D

I'm using 300mm prime and o-gps. I find that about 10s exposures are longest ones for me. Maybe it is my tripod or the calibration of the o-gps but I'm not getting any decent pictures on longer exposures. I also get feeling that I need to do re-calibration quite often (every 1-2h or so).

I should also try some wide field astrophotos too. :)

I'm waiting spring time too. Mine needs some cleaning. Front lens maybe has some fungus or dust. I have taken it to parts one time and adjusted focusing distance so that I could use it to astrophotography also. I've made an electronic trigger so that I could use the gun stock for birding. Just a prototype that needs some fixing. Only problem for me is focusing. It is hard for some reason and I have come to conclusion that there is some error at distance of focusing screen to image sensor in my camera.

But because this is a pet thread..

Yes. He is chasing those with great enthusiasm. He looks a bit annoyed because those bubbles he can't catch are flying over a lake and he does not like swimming.

But he likes to drink from a lake (or any pond/puddle in forest) more than from a bowl filled with tap water.

Here is a nesting fieldfare.

Black-throated Loon flock.

Clumsy mallard duckling

and sibling at the sunset.

All taken with my 100mm wr. I do need a longer lens :D

Now that there is no longer clear and dark enough skies for me until late august, I can try to process my pictures. I would like to know good and easy way for pp. Do you guys first stack and then adjust levels or is stacking the last operation before crop? For example could you consider shooting raw -> convert to tiff maybe -> stacking -> import to Photoshop and using its awesome powers. It would be nice to know your workflow. :)

You are right. I was thinking that it is the same phenomena "light pillar" that you can some times see with sun. These ones were quite low and temperature was below freezing. Maybe sea was not frozen yet so that could be source of that humidity because I don't remember any sightings from the inland.

Nice pictures everyone!

I'm so jealous for you guys having those clear skies. This winter has been all cloudy for me. This month there has been total of 8 hours of sun shine. Last month was little better (28 hours) but in December there was only 3.5 hours of sun shine in whole month :) Hope this weather gets better so I could use my o-gps and recently acquired Tair 3s 300mm.
