I know its a little "dark" but I like that the main light is hitting their faces only.

Thanks for the positive insight, being "horse people" there is a certain appreciation for these kinds of shots that we have. I have definately kept working on it, and will continue to do so. I will share a few more photos of my equine friends to see what everyone thinks. Maybe they will be more interesting for the non-horsey population.

Angles are definately best for shooting horses, nothing straight on with them works. 3/4 views, even some from down low or up a little higher can make for some interesting shots. Lighting definately makes a difference because you want to highlight there muscles and structure rather than get one solod "tone" throughout. Check out equine photography websites - I get alot of inspiration there. Treats can definately be helpful when trying to keep their attention on you as well. But sometimes the best shots are when they are just out in the paddock doing their own thing :) I have 7 in my care as well. I will post another shot I got which has my reflection in the eye, not the best shot but the unexpected reflection got me excited when I loaded the pic on my computer later that day!

Thanks...besides the cropping anything else? I was actually quite proud of this photo - I was a complete beginner, the 2nd day I got my Kx over 2 years ago. I feel it is very peaceful rather than boring. But thats the beauty of photography, to each its own :)

I dont have all the specifics for this particular photo, but wanted to get some feedback. This is a pony named Tilly. The lighting was perfect in her stall that morning :)

Sorrry, made a mistake on the lens used, was just my 18-55mm kit lens
