My K5-ll has a FA300mm 4.5 on it 99% of the time. At the other end of the spectrum my K20 has a Vivitar 19mm on it most of the time.

This immature Red Tail Hawk was all too happy to pose for pictures while hunting.

Haven't had time to take many pictures lately let alone post any. So here's a few out of the front yard from the past few weeks. All taken with my A*300f4 on a K5II. |

A*300 F4 K5II
This shot tested my quick draw manual focus reflexes, got it close but not quite. A little faster shutter speed would have helped as well.
The sandpiper moved a little slower! |

And with that the pictures are secondary!
I use a beamer many times in HSS and it does make a difference when your pushing the limits of a normal flash range. You do have to check where the beamer is focusing the flash making sure it's hitting the subject your taking a picture of. A little vertical movement can make a big difference where the flash hits.
To answer the HHS question, it stands for "high speed sync". It allows you to use a flash with shutter speeds faster then the normal flash sync max speed 180. At 180 or less the shutter is wide open fully exposing the sensor, at faster speeds the shutter is more or less a little slit wiping across the sensor not exposing it all at the same time. If you use a faster shutter speed with a non HSS mode flash you will end up with just a narrow band of exposed picture because the duration of the single flash "pop" is faster than the time it takes for the moving shutter curtain to fully expose the sensor. In HSS mode the flash pulses it's output so the light is basically on for the complete duration the shutter moving across the sensor. The down side to HSS is that the flash output level is reduced do to the pulsing for an extended length of time. I'm sure there are some mega flashes with big power supply reserves that can maintain full output while in HSS mode.

Pulled in our drive way this afternoon and noticed this Northern Flicker out in the field digging through the snow looking for something to eat. If he would come up to our yard there's a big suet block just waiting!
Taken with a A*300F4 on a K5II. |

Could not pass this up, just ordered the body, memory card and a extra battery!
I've been looking in the marketplace listings almost daily for a good deal on a good K5II or K5IIs.
For $600 I can live with the slightly difference in sharpness if I would even have noticed it.
My current camera is a K20 and going to a K5II if for nothing else but the low noise high ISO
performance will be a big advantage!
Now I need to find a good deal on a BG4 grip.
