Something else you might want to consider is whether the focusing challenge is worse with this lens than others. I have the A28 2.8 lens and struggled to get sharp images with it. I posted about this years ago, because the ratings for this lens vs the F28 2.8 were quite different, even though they have the same optical formula. Something that emerged in the discussion was that the focus throw for the A28 is small, about 90 degrees or 1/4 turn to go from infinity to the closest focus. This means when focusing in between, even very small twists of the focus ring can make a huge difference and this is why I suggest trying another lens, that has more range to the focus ring to see if you have an easier time of it.

Aha! Makes a lot more sense now. Still gave me a chance to "show off" my Magnicon all singing 3X TC/Macro which is a bit of an oddity.

I have two types - Takumar A 2x - Takumar-A 2x Tele-Converter Reviews - Pentax K-mount Teleconverters and Adapters - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database and a Magnicon (Black's Camera's store brand) 3X Macro Auto Teleconverter that works as a TC or for turning a lens into a macro lens. The best I can say about both of them is they have A contacts. The Takumar isn't worth using as a TC, but people don't buy them for that purpose, but rather to de-glass and use an extension tube with contacts. While you can use the 3X in bright light, there's a reason you don't find high end TC above 2X magnification.
I think the question you have to ask is whether you gain more from two TC, or from using just one and cropping the image in terms of which gives better image quality.

They can also be vicious when they spot food. Nice shot.

I'll be lucky if in my lifetime I learn enough about photography to match what you've probably already forgotten. While I always think about you for your candid street shots, you do show us a wide variety of images.
That said, if I may be so bold, I don't think this one is as good as it could be. There's a conflict in the way it is cropped. On the one hand, the bright pond in the centre, and the contrast with the dark buildup of twigs or a plant in the centre of the pond pull the eye one way, while the sun on the right third pulls the eye upward and to the right. I might have cropped this differently, possibly putting the sun further to the right, although this might depend on what else was cut out from the original shot.

Not a huge fan of photoshopping things out of a photo, but in this case removing the prominent bins on the right might be worthwhile.
The color tone you've chosen only adds to the surreal feel of the empty street.
You continue to impress with your vision of the world.

I have a K-5 purchased in 2012 with about 30,000 shots on it. No idea on date of manufacture but probably towards the middle or end of the production cycle.
I've had no problems with buttons falling off. I'm not aware of stains, but I might have that issue as I know my sensor has gotten pretty dirty over time. I do find the autofocus to be hit and miss, and when the green hexagon tells you that it is in focus it isn't spot on focus, but close to being on focus. It is possible the K5 had more problems than other bodies, but I've not had to spend money repairing mine, unlike my daughter's K-S2, which along with the K30, K50, and early K70 have suffered from the aperture control block failure problem in fairly high numbers.
A shutter count of 1400 is very low. While I can go months without shooting, I have also shot hundreds of images in a few hours when at an event. If you can test before buying, that would be ideal.

Curious which brand and how did you know that an update had been issued?

You may want to look through this thread that I started not too long ago. Advice on buying a monitor - what should I be looking concerned about? - PentaxForums.com
In the end, I decided to spend as little as possible while still getting a decent or better than average 4K monitor that was one sale at the time (and seems to come on sale ever other week), the Dell SC2722QC. The main selling point over the 2K version is 10 bit vs 8 bit color. As my laptop only has USB connections, getting a monitor I could run through USB was something that was particularly useful to me. I'm still not sure 4K was the right option and I may try running it at lower resolution to see if it works better in terms of the trade off between viewing space vs. size of text. Had I opted to spend more, there's a good chance I would have taken a closer look at the Asus ProArt series.

Well even with extended voting, it has been a quiet contest and @noelcmn is the winner with a caption that had me laughing out loud.

Lots of ways to learn, and I agree keeping up with new gear is probably the least effective way. My attraction to Pentax was the ability to use old glass, which at one time you could have for very cheap. You also get to learn a lot of the negatives that way - for example lenses that are low in contrast, flare easily, are slow etc. You either end up taking a lot of lousy shots, or you learn how to get the best out of every situation.

A lot depends on what you want to get out of it as a hobby. For the average shooter who is just capturing life as he sees it, you don't constantly need to buy gear. It was also, at least for Pentax shooters, a lot cheaper 5-10 years ago. Now that there are adapters for all sorts of cameras, it is harder to find good older lenses for bargain prices, which is how I grew my initial collection. But aside from wanting to update from a K5 (and possibly just to use a FF body with my FF lenses) I probably don't need to spend any more. At least not on gear. Now in terms of making a few prints for my office wall, that's a whole other budget to work out.

I don't recognize this flower... ;)
Jer forgot to look at what side the steering wheel is located. I guess he was distracted...by the car itself.

I get that, and I'm not trying to obviate the need for calibration. I just think there's a difference when you are looking at the lower price end vs spending $1000 or more on a monitor. I also don't know how much being off calibration will affect prints for the average person - i.e. not someone doing this commercially who needs colors to be spot on from one monitor to the next and in the final output.

I don't know the broader situation in the US, but here cars are getting written off a lot sooner that you'd expect. It would see the insurance companies have their own ways to recover value that is more cost effective than repairs.
I'm glad your wife largely escaped intact. And I'm sure she's glad you could get her something with a nice red ribbon on it :)
