Moved to general photography as it is more about international market forces than a Price Watch candidate.

I have just bought an Epson SC P906, and with the A3 paper I currently have the output is superb. I have just ordered a packet of A2 paper and a spare set of ink cartridges - all ten of them! I hope they last a while because they ain't cheap.
Interestingly, the footprint is only marginally larger than my old Artisan 1430, which only took A3. The user interface is much nicer too.

The FA 31/1.8 Limited is not a Hirakawa design....

Actually, I should qualify that. Although I have no quarrel with its imaging qualities, and despite its legion of fans, I have never really warmed to the DA* 60-250.
If I was more of a landscaper though, my opinion would probably be more sympathetic.

I have the full suite of DA* and DFA* lenses, and all the Limiteds. I enjoy them all.

You did ask for the "absolute best" :)
There is a reason I have not tried my DFA 21 on the K-3 III Monochrome. That is because I really like the DA15 and DA 21 Limited. Yes, the former has some field curvature, and the latter has some barrel distortion, but they both make beautiful pictures. They are also tiny, and fun to use.
The two DA* zooms, which cross over this focal range, are also superb landscape lenses. You will be making very few compromises with either the 11-18 or the new PLM version of the 16-50. But again: not cheap.

I find the DFA 21/2.4 Limited to be pretty much impeccable on the K-1. I haven't used mine on my K-3 III Monochrome, but any vignetting and barrel distortion will obviously be less on a crop sensor.
It's also quite light, weather resistant, and it takes regular filters, so I can't imagine looking anywhere else for your landscapes. It also has many other qualities which make it a great choice for the other applications you're not too fussed about ;)

I'm not sure how sharp you want a portrait lens to be, but if you get the focus spot on I reckon the FA 77 goes alright wide open. |

Personally, I would choose cheese - maybe Saint Augur, Fromage Des Clarines, and BellaVitano balsamic, with a few other options (d'Affinois, anyone?) available if we ran out. Add my cousin's quince paste, some fresh pear and a few other sweet condiments and I would be ready for heaven, hell, or anything in between.

I would spend the day at home with my family and closest friends. Photos may or may not be taken, but the best wine and whisky in my cellar would certainly be consumed.

Do you? Really? I don't see the first post in this thread being in any way supportive of this conjecture. This sentence:
epitomises it. It is borderline brand bashing, which is looked at very dimly here.
If you like Pentax glass, buy the best Pentax body you can and enjoy the lenses to their fullest. Pentax, more than any other company in the history of photography, has bent over backwards to maintain backward compatibility with legacy lenses, so you most definitely do NOT need to feel guilty about buying second hand. I get the overwhelming feeling that Pentax values long term brand loyalty over short term sales, and I for one respect that.
If you don't, jump ship to whatever is shiny this week. What you choose to do is up to you, and you alone.

What you are saying is he gets you. Not it.
Whether or not Ricoh gets it, only time will tell.
This topic already has a rich history of well-informed people being proven wrong. Don't put yourself forward too strongly to be the next one.

I got home from work at 22:15, and I barely have the energy to pour a glass of wine, post this, shower, and go to bed.
So although I have an hour left, there will be no shot for the 5th. I don't think the shame will keep me up at night.

Jolly good. I doubt Ricoh will change their strategy on the strength of your detailed analysis.
For the record, the film camera project was always planned to be in four phases of increasing complexity: this camera is number one.

Welcome to the wonderful world of photography! My suggestion is to go out with what you have and make lots of photos.
Experiment. Find out what you like to shoot. Post some of the results here if you wish. Have Fun!

Ultimately (for me at least) that is not the point. It is the fact that it is *my shot* (not the possibly better professional image) that matters.
To each their own I guess.

I was fortunate to discover that my high school science teacher had a darkroom in a dungeon below his classroom. I (mis)spent many an hour down there making black and white prints with Ilford film and paper, and even learned how to make 10" x 8" Cibachrome prints from my better Kodachrome slides.
At university in the early 80's, I discovered the Students' Union darkroom, and spent another couple of happy years shooting, developing and printing for the Adelaide University weekly newspaper, "On Dit".
Will I ever become a smelly-handed vampire again? Probably not. But I think I'll get back into shooting film and digitally processing the scans. I have an LX, an MX (two, actually) and a Pz-1p which continue to sing their siren song.

That's hilarious Dave. Next time I'm in the West Country (my ancestral home) I will (with your permission) hunt you down - I suspect we'd get on well.
Have you seen the original? It is overwhelmingly beautiful, as is "Primavera". I took these merely as a reminder that I had really been in the presence of such greatness, but the images came out better than I expected.
