I want to start by saying that I am not a wedding photographer. I do, however, photograph events. I think everyone here has made some great suggestions and advise. The DA* 16-50 & 50-135 would be a classic, versatile, constant aperture pair to have for any occasion (as would their Sigma equivalents).
I wanted to throw in a suggestion for a lens I hear very little about. If you don't require the really wide angle often, then what about the HD DA 20-40mm f/2.8-4 Limited WR. Sure its not as wide or as long, but it is smaller, lighter, and renders images with that Limited lens look. You could then supplement it with one of the wide angle zooms mentioned earlier or the 15mm Limited prime and the 70mm or 100mm Macro for longer reach and general portraiture.
Just my 2-cents in case that is a lens that strikes your interest. I have used it and must say that it's a great little lens.

Thanks for all of the help.
It is puzzling why this one lens behaves this way. Funny thing is that when I put it on my ZX-7 it works great. I can not understand why this is the only lens that doesn't function as it's supposed to on the K10D. Has anyone else had a problem with Cosina or non-Pentax brand lenses exhibiting strange behaviors on a digital body?

That part works fine on the K10D. I've observed it as you describe. It moves as it should and the aperture on every other FA & DA lens I have works works as it is supposed to.

In case it sheds any light on the issue, here are the lens specs.
Cosina 100-300mm f/5.6-6.3 MC Macro
Here is a photo of the lens mount.

I have used FA lenses on this body before. A Pentax 28-80 and a Tamron 28-200 to be exact. Both of these work great with the film bodies and fine on the K10D. Aperture ring and all which, unless I'm shooting with the ZX-5n, always stays on A.
This lens has the A setting on the aperture ring. Works great on the ZX & MZ bodies. I have aperture ring enabled on the K10D and have discovered today that if I shoot the lens as though it were an older M, K, or A lens (meaning shooting in Manual, green button to stop-down meeter, fire) it works. But should I shoot any other mode or put the aperture to A, the lens will not stop down. Not when doing a DOF preview or when releasing the shutter.
As for the mount, it is chrome. Looks just like any Kaf mount on any of my other lenses. I even took the time to clean the contacts on both the lens and the body to see if that had any affect. The camera knows what the available aperture is on the lens as it changes appropriately as I zoom, so I know it's communicating. I just don't understand why this is the only lens I'm having to treat this way in order to use. And it is only with the K10D and not with any of the two other AF film bodies I have. It just seems so strange.

I recently got a telephoto lens (Cosina 100-300mm AF) dirt cheap, but just today noticed that the aperture doesn't close when I mount this lens on the K10D. I mounted this on my ZX-7 and everything works as it should. I took my DA 16-45 and made sure it worked on the K10D and it works perfectly.
So what am I missing that allows the Cosina lens to work properly on one camera, but not the other? Any ideas?

This is certainly a pre-2002 model, as it clearly states "Asahi Opt. Co. Ltd." on the bottom plate. I will investigate further and read deeper into that thread about that linkage. Thanks for the reply :)

Upon further investigation, it is clear that this is not an issue with the mirror motor gear (if it wasn't obvious to me by the fact that the mirror isn't stuck.) After opening things up, it was discovered that this camera already has the metal gear replacement. The problem is apparently shutter related. Watching it more, the shutter curtains do not move and the shutter remains in the fired position and refuses to re-cock, forcing the camera to constantly trigger the mirror. Sometimes, when I open the battery compartment to stop the camera, the shutter does seem to reset, but never actually fires when power is restored. It is unclear if this is a mechanical issue with the shutter as it sometimes moves, or if the system has an electrical short somewhere.

Wanted to see if anyone has ran across this before. I just got a ZX-5n and it will not take a SINGLE shot. You fire the shutter and the camera continues running in burst mode, even though the drive mode is set to single. You turn off the camera, but the camera keeps on going. I have to remove the batteries to kill it. Also noticed while writing this that the shutter is not actually firing, the mirror is just flapping up and down. Anybody have any insight as to the cause of trouble and anything I can look into to try repairing myself?

Name is Jarrod, and just joined after acquiring a ZX-5n and a ZX-7. Have to work on the ZX a little, but can not wait to put them through their paces :)
