A TC wont necessarily help, yes it'll increase the magnification of the subject, it may make the AF less responsive as you'll decrease the aperture significantly letting in less light ( by 1.4 stops or 2 stops depending on your choice of TC ) to perhaps make the AF unusable.
Options would be to improve your technique and crop in, to improve your field craft and get closer, aircraft aren't to difficult to get close to, the shot on my website of the Tornado on a knife edge was with a K1 and a 70 - 200mm lens at 150mm with a small crop.
The Herc ( C130 ) not quite on a knife edge, was with the same camera / lens combo but at 100mm with virtually no crop due to the size of the aircraft.
Shots of some of the others have been at the fence of RAF / USAF airfields or airshows

Thank you, Some 50% are K1 linked to the 150 - 450, about 30% are the K3iii again with the same lens and some go back to a K5ii or a K3,
As mentioned before, BIF's and or aircraft in flight do IMHO need overall good all round technique

Ensure your panning technique is up to scratch, like swinging a golf club, you need to follow through, rotate through the hips and have a smooth trigger finger, don't jab the button, Look up Back Button Focusing ( BBF ) a worthwhile technique to master, and then is practice, practice and more practice.
Generally I use BBF, as high a shutter speed as poss without to high an ISO ( 400 or maybe 800 max ) and somewhere between F5.6 and F8 on either a K1 or K3iii linked to a Pentax 150 - 450 handheld.
Have a look at my web site and " The Aviator Gallery "

I've had the K5iis and the high ISO performance was better than the K3 / K3ii, the latter models will offer improvements in the menus, slight improvements in focusing and technical / ergonomic improvements, commonality with batteries
Depending on the subjects your shooting, I'd prob opt for a used K1 with or without a grip and look to increase your FF lenses at a later date, good glass will outlast bodies

I have both with a similar stance to the above posts, the K3iii is for in flight aircraft and birds, mainly hooked to a 150 - 450, the K1 is for portraits particularly on an 85 F1.4 etc and general use, I also have a Z which is also portraits and glamour / nudes and landscapes etc
I only take what kit I think I'll need so its only ever one camera body maybe with a few lenses

I agree with everything SFPphotography has said, I run a Z with a 28 - 45 / 45 - 85 / 80 - 160 plus a 150 F2.8 for portrait work then chuck on some extension tubes and its a superb macro lens
Jump in with both feet, you wont regret it and its a delight to use.

I used 2 narrow and smallish black cable ties around the section that attaches to the 645z, its not tight enough to stop the eyepiece rotating, but is enough to keep it on the camera, so far has kept mine on for over 2 years having like you lost the original and one more.

BIF relies much more on very good technique particularly with Pentax ( not tried a K3iii yet ) back button focusing ( BBF ) works for me

I also have both, the K1 is used for wildlife / action and anything that requires a lens over 200mm really, the 645z is used for landscapes, portraits, nudes etc.
Whilst some of the lenses I have for the K1 will also do the job of the 645, its such a lovely camera to work with, the images are outstanding and 3 lenses covers all of the above, a 28 - 45 / 45 -160 / and a 150mm F2.8 for those OOF portraits with minimal DOF.
I may part with some of the K1 lenses particularly the Sigma 85mm F1.4 as its not getting used, also the Samyang 14mm F2.8 might go as well

I think the key is remembering its weather resistant rather than waterproof, so to answer your question, if the camera or lens gets wet in rain / snow take precautions to keep it dry-ish if poss, if not dry as soon as poss with a macrofibre cloth, in my own experiences I've followed this advice and been perfectly fine, us Pentaxians don't need to run for cover like those CanNikons users do when it starts to drizzle LOL

The latest firmware available on the K7 is V1.13, not suggesting it'll cure your issue, but probably worth updating when you can
