This was taken the day I got the smc pentax -m 50mm 1:1.4 lens. I was eager to try it out and start dabbling with shooting in manual. First thing I saw was the light coming thru the front door of our house. I liked how it somehow highlighted the swirls on the glass.
Post processing involved decreasing the exposure and increasing my contrast. I also used the lens vignetting option on my editor since I thought it would help highlight the middle of the picture.
I do know I have a long way to go with my compositions, but I have to say, learning is so much fun and makes the journey into photography that much more interesting to me. I hope you guys like the photo.

Thanks Adam! I feel like such a doofus now! I took a look at the lens again and read briefly on entering the focal length on one of the forums. To my pea sized brain's astonishment, I had the lens set on A, once I moved the dial off this, SR was available.
I would be eternally lost without this forum!

Hi all,
Here with another noob question. I just noticed that on my Tamron 70-300mm Di lens, I can't get the image stabilisation/shake reduction function to come up. Is this a capability that is not available on this lens? When I stick in my 18-55mm Pentax WR lens the shake reduction function does become available, hence I am a tad bit puzzled.
Thanks again for clearing this up for me guys!

A recent capture on a holiday. The pic has a slight solemn air to it, in my opinion :)

I have been looking at some prime lenses. I do agree the price is astronomically cheaper than the newer ones. I saw a Ricoh 28mm f/2.8 that is very affordable. I have to say, I was quite apprehensive getting a Pentax since most of the people I know were using Nikon or Canon bodies and boasted about the lenses available to them. But now, especially with the compatibility with the older lenses, I think I made the right choice :)

Thank you for the input! I do have trouble getting sharp images. As for the budget, I may stick to the cheaper lenses for now. :) I have just discovered that getting a camera and having one or 2 lenses is not the end of it hehehe. If i do decide to go for an 18-270, should i ditch the 70-300mm and the 18-55 i currently have?

Hi all,
I recently took my K-5 on a test trip to Geneva. First off, I love the camera and think that it comes to par or performs better than some of the more popular brands now. On the trip, I had with me a Pentax 18-55mm WR and a tamron AF 70-300mm Di. For most of the trip, I had the Tamron lens mounted. I do love the telescopic/macro feature of the lens but had trouble taking pics objects at obviously a closer range. Although I have both lenses with me, I fear that constantly changing between the 2 lenses can damage the camera in the long run.
So my dilemma brings me to considering swapping out the Tamron 70-300 lens for a more versatile lens, say an 18-250mm one and hopefully getting a better telescopic one in the future for sports/wildlife photography. Do you think this is a wise move and what lenses would be good to choose from?
Thank you all in advance! I do appreciate all your input, especially since I am a newbie at this. :)

hmmm, judging from your replies it does seem that there isn't 1 perfect bag. in addition, the fact that you guys have more than one carrying case/apparatus/bag does point toward a variety of gear you all have. i am now wondering if i will one day end up like this...what have i gotten myself into hehehehe

Hi everyone,
I am looking to purchase my first camera bag/backpack and seem to be in a bit of a bind. I don't have a lot of gear. All I have now is my K-5 and 2 lenses. I do intend to get a flash and a battery grip when I have saved up some more and probably one more lens. As of the moment though, I want to get a back pack that can carry my gear plus the future ones I intend to get and a 15" laptop.
I guess that is why I was looking for a backpack since I want a bit of both worlds; a camera bag and a pack to place some bits and bobs for my everyday use. I stumbled upon a bunch of backpacks from the Lowepro photo sport 200 AW to the compurover and Kata range of bags. I also came across Crumpler, which I have to say sort of appeals most to me. As others have put it, I like how it does not scream I have a camera with me.
With that in mind, I narrowed my choice to the Crumpler half photo backpack range. I came across the Cupcake (which has a great ad on youtube) and the Muffin Top as well (both the half photo backpack variants). The thing is, I can't seem to find them in the stores over here anymore and hence can't get a good comparison of the 2. On the net, the muffin top comes out cheaper than the cupcake and looking at the sizing info, the difference is negligible. I was wonderign if anyone has either of the bags and if so, what your thoughts are?
Thanks so much for taking the time to read and reply to my post guys :)

Hi all,
I'm obviously a new member to the group and am a First time Pentax user! I got interested with photography about a year ago and was using a compact camera system. I'm hoping to have tons of fun with the K-5 I recently purchased and I am equally looking forward to improving my photography through all your help!
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
:D
