Still that way [corrected from last night when I wrote from my very faulty memory -- I hadn't actually used the thing in a while, my apologies]. It does still have a waist-level viewfinder, though, which is very weird. The camera has a very sleek, black, 1980's-looking design, and then it has that. ;)

This was shot using a cheap East German SLR called an Exa 1c with a Helios 44-2. I home developed it in caffenol and I screwed up the spooling process, further distressing the whole look of the thing. Some digital photographers spend time and money on filters to achieve this kind of effect! ;)

Can second the effectiveness of Pocket Light Meter. It's been around for quite a while and I used it extensively for several years with no problems.
Currently I'm trying a newer app called "Lux" which has a really nice interface, fast and easy to use.

I know right? The one I have autofocuses faster than any DSLR I've owned so far, although I've only had low-end DSLRs. Also the fact that I am so used to manual focusing could have something to do with my perception. I'm certainly not complaining because it's a great feature to have when you need it and I've never owned a film camera that has it. I used a Minolta SRT-101 in college in the late 1980's and all the way up until I got my first-ever digital camera.

So a few years ago, I moved house, and in the process of moving a lot of things happened. For reasons I won't bore you with, we had to hastily pack many things and then a lot of stuff was never properly unpacked. Now I'm just getting around to sorting through my cameras, and I cannot seem to find my dear Ricoh KR-5 Super, which was given to me by a good friend. I have the Rikenon lens which came with it because I was using it with my Pentax digital. Maybe I did something with the little Ricoh and don't remember? In any case, I needed a replacement Pentax film SLR that wasn't going to set me back many moneys.
That well-known buy/sell/trade establishment in the southeastern United States had this SF10 model listed in Excellent condition on their website for just US$15, so after checking out a couple of internet reviews, I picked it up despite being a little leery of old electronic cameras. Having dealt with this dealer many times over the years, I trust them a lot, which had a lot to do with my decision.
The camera arrived and true to my past experiences with this dealer, it was in better than "excellent" condition -- as if someone had been given it as a birthday present and then never used it, shoved it in a closet until deciding to sell it many years later. Looking at it and firing it up was like being transported back thirty years when things like cameras and stereos were all black and minimalistic.
The thing is a brick compared to the cute little Ricoh that it replaces, but I have lugged around all sorts of film cameras including medium format SLRs, so it hardly matters in the scheme of things.
Autofocus is super-fast (although I likely won't be using AF lens very often) and the TTL metering was accurate (I was checking against a handheld light meter). I loaded up Lomography color 800 since I often find myself indoors in lower light situations. I am very excited to have a basic film SLR again, even if it is a little on the huge side. My only other "real" 35mm camera at this time is a late 60's-era Yashica rangefinder, very fun but without interchangeable lenses.

I am the starter of this thread, back in the day. I am so glad to see it still going strong, years later! I still have my little beauty, but I have not used it much in recent times because I have been ill for the past year (limiting my ability to get out and have fun shooting) and because it has recently developed a small interior rattling noise. The camera still operates fine, but with a rattle I don't care to risk using it heavily and doing something to make it worse. There's a repair place about a 30-minute drive from me; I just need to get down there and have it taken care of.
Anyway, lovely photos all! I am going to drink some coffee and page back through slowly and enjoy everything.

I'm with you on that. While I like gadgetry, I also love cameras of all types. I actually just bought a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash with full intentions of using it (those old bakelite cheapies actually take wonderful, dreamy images.)
Boutique companies will be producing film for a few more decades and I will be one of those giving them my business.

The K-01 is not. difficult. to. use.
REPEAT
The K-01 is not difficult to use. On the contrary, it is very easy to use.
The grip is different but not uncomfortable. The button placements are different but not something that an intelligent person couldn't deal with.

Well, I've got one and I have been using it extensively - it goes with me everywhere. I also have and use 16 other cameras from various time periods; and I have owned two other dSLRs, one Pentax and one Nikon. The K-01 is easy to use and its grip is, at least for me, a lot more ergonomic than that stupid Nikon's was.
I'm amused that you hate it so without having spent time actually using it, but I'm more delighted that some people recognize good design when they see it. :lol:

May I join?
I have a small collection of Carl Zeiss Jena glass, but only one M42 lens at the moment, a 2.8/50 Tessar which dates from the mid-80's. It looks quite snazzy on the black K-01, IMO!

I just got the adapter to use it on Saturday evening, so yesterday was the first day I was able to try it out. Needless to say I was very impressed.

I also have a Pentacon six TL medium format film system and the following Carl Zeiss Jena lenses that go with it: a 2.8/80 Biometar, a 4/50 Flektogon, and a 2.8/180 Sonnar (which weighs something like two and a half pounds!). I'm seriously considering getting one of those tilt adapters to allow me to use those lenses with my K-01 rather than chasing down the 35mm equivalents on eBay, which can get pricey. Does anyone have any experience using these lenses with a Pentax camera? I have one friend who uses the Biometar with her APS-C Nikon and she does get some pretty amazing results.

And finally, this abstract self-portrait. The K-01 can do in-camera multiple exposures, and it can do it in RAW mode, which is nice. I just got around to messing around with this feature today. It's going to take me a while to master it; the colors came out pretty funky, which is why I processed this one into a split-tone. Still, there's a lot of potential there once I figure out what I'm doing.

Finally finally finally got a real M42 adapter (Pentax's own, natch). It did not come in until early evening tonight so this isn't a "best" picture but simply a test pic I am excited about. I suspect I will be using this lens with the K-01 more than any other until I can expand my collection further. The sharpness and beautiful bokeh of those Zeiss lenses just kill me and I am perfectly happy with manually focusing.
This was shot at 3200 ISO in a fairly dark corner. I tossed a small noise reduction filter on it in PSE before uploading, but other than that, no other processing besides the usual RAW tweaking. Carl Zeiss Jena 2.8/50 Tessar lens.
