Yeah, I normally just jump in with both feet, but since that often becomes expensive for me I thought I'd try something different this time.

Guess I should slow down and actually read, rather than skim through the manual. Just so much to take in with this big of a change in bodies.

Thank y'all for the quick replies! Now I really feel like an idiot when Photolady pointed out that it was on page 20. I've looked at those pages several times and have missed it every time. X-sync socket.

Dumb question on K5IIs

I just went from an ist dl, to a new-to-me K5IIs and have a lot to get used to. The one thing I can't seem to find an answer to though, is what is the knurled screw/knob located below the flash release button? I'd hate to just start turning it and have something fall apart on the camera, but sure am tempted since I can't seem to find what it is in the manual or online.

Thanks!

But then you run into the question of: who decides what "sucks?" if someone is paying for it then they must like it enough to do so.

Since a freelancer is usually someone who works for whoever is willing to pay without ties to any one in particular, i think that would make "most" photogs fall into that category. Unless you work for one particular company you are pretty much a freelancer.

Looks like fun, but I agree: kind of too thin. On a side note, looking at the Spring Magazine covers, isn't it Kirsten Dunst instead of Kristen (Unless it is about someone else)?

I can totally relate to the panic that sets in the first time your DSLR comes home looking like that. My DL gets almost the same look to it during some of the events I cover.
Great cave pictures, BTW.

You are right, of course. Pentax cameras are very much the best deal out there in my opinion, and any time you can save $100 is a big deal. I was just saying that to most of the students I personally know, when you are talking about a purchase over $1000, $100 isn't enough to convince us to buy something we didn't already plan on.

I am glad Pentax is doing it, but I guess I am just sorry I can't take advantage of it at the moment.

Well, I am a full time student, and taking the photo class this summer, but I don't know many of us who have a ton of extra $$. $100 is not enough incentive for me to jump on a K20 at the moment (wish I could). As to the academic price of software, they give really good discounts on that, IMO. Oh well, maybe another time...

Nice pictures. That GTO reminds me of a '70 I had when I was younger. Same color, except mine was a convertible. REALLY wish I had not sold that car...

Several of my fellow students and I used Lulu to print a book of some of our essays one time. We all enter in literary "contests" and wanted some of our best work in print. We opted for the soft cover and it came out really well. I don't remember the price but we had no complaints. I don't know about most of their covers, but ours did not have a hole to see any of the first page.
