Pentax DA* 16-50 and DA*50-135mm Autofocus Problems

Well, I have to give credit where credit is due.
I found a Ricoh Canada phone number and the person I spoke to asked that I send an email about my situation so they could forward it to the right department.
I sent the email and one day later I got a very pleasant phone call thanking me for being a Pentax customer and I was told that they would look after the repair costs and to please be patient while they got the parts in.
It was turned into a very positive experience.

I have just sent my 16-50 in for it's 3rd repair. The first was under warranty, the next was 13 months ago and now I received another $350.00 + shipping repair quote.

The funny thing is there no longer seems to be any Pentax (Ricoh) Canada. Their listed number is not in service. The US 800 number works and they have no idea other than they have been getting some calls from Canada lately.

I was told to use the web contact but so far no reply.

Sun Cameras in Ontario does the repairs and was the only suggestion London Drugs ( great store ) but they offer no support other than pay the bill.

Doesn't seem like they have solved the repair issue yet nor do they seem seem to stand behind the repairs.

I did use the lens a fair amount over the last 13 months.

Have you thought of the new D-FA 150-450mm with a 1.4TC?
Save a bundle and WR.
My dream at least.

They seem a little paranoid about the downtown eastside in Vancouver,

Have you been to Somalia?

Can you really use those two places in the same sentence, seriously.

Wow!

I guess you always catch really big fish.

You are pretty safe in Vancouver, but you can't walk around in the any part of town taking people's pictures thinking there are no feelings on their part and they are there for your entertainment.

If you talked to them as people you would find out they are just that.

I have been using just the AF button for over a year now and love it. It seems to work much better for me and can't think of anything negative about it.

So we booked a return flight to Yellowknife NWT for 3 days in early February.

I will bring my K3, DA* 16-50 & 60-250 along with a tripod and Flu card.

Any tips much appreciated.

I like to shoot Aperture Priority and also have the wireless remote.

Hope to post some pictures when we return.

Cheers and thanks in advance.

The lens has been repaired and and it is good to have it back in great working condition.

I did hold off for a bit and used it as a manual lens for a bit as I had till Dec to use the warranty.

London Drugs was great, offering to go to bat for me and offered to contact the Pentax/Ricoh rep for possible credit/help but we decided to save that for another time as AMX extended warranty was covering at this time and that would be expired by the next time.

The repair was done by Sun Camera Repair for $325.96 and London Drugs handled all the shipping and paper work.

AMX covered everything based on having all the paper work and receipts.

Happy to have the lens back and happy to shoot Pentax.

Sadly it appears that the motors are gone. Tried the 16-50 on my old K5 and the same problem.

Cleaning the contacts appeared to do nothing even though they were pretty dirty.

Let's see how that credit card warranty extension works.

Bit of drag but I still love the lens and it has quite a few miles on it now.

I had my DA* 16-50 on the camera and for the first time it would not focus. When I switch to my DA* 60-250 everything worked fine. Then I put the 16-50 on again and it was working fine again.
It was mid day and the sun was shining. It was not a low light situation.
Both lens worked fine after the lens switches and had worked well before this situation.
That's what lead me to think it was a contact thing.

My K3 had real trouble focusing on my recent trip to New Orleans.

I was wondering if I should be cleaning the contacts with isopropyl alcohol on both the lens and camera body.

Turns out I couldn't update the firmware with the SanDisk Extreme Pro 64 GB Card and had to find an older 32 GB card.

Tech support from Ricoh @ Toll Free: 1-800-224-6767 was great.

On version 1.03 now

I was wondering how users with K3's and the Flucard are finding battery life. My Flucard is on order and I'm curious how fast the wifi drains the battery. Will the grip and second battery be next?
