Thank you everyone for your diagnoses and suggestions....sure enough, the drive button did get set to multiple exposure. Switched it back and all is right with my trusty K-3, which will soon be venturing to Italy and Greece now that it's behaving.

It was also an opportunity to refresh myself on other drive functions I don't think about much or forgot all about, like Mirror Lock Up. Really appreciate everyone's help.

This is not one of the fights I need to go to because I've been fortunate to have never had a disagreeable exchange on the forum....I have, though, witnessed enough of them to understand why the moderators felt a need to issue an appeal for greater civility.

What I would like to say, though, is that I feel very fortunate to have access to a forum like this, appreciative of the time and thoughtfulness the moderators invest, and thankful for the many friendly and helpful exchanges (and transactions) I've enjoyed with so many of you forum members.

Peace out.

Haven't been real pleased with my F*300 shots lately, but I took it to the shore last night and was very happy with the result. These are highly cropped, and I was amazed at their sharpness.

FA *85 or FA 77 Limited?

Hi everyone, just wanted to say thank you for the real thoughtful posts.....

Now I think I'll exercise my decision-making technique...it's called inertia :)

I probably don't use either as much as I should. But since @LeRolls weighed in on this thread, I have to give him some props. His portraits with the FA*85 are testament to the lens (and its handler).

the limiteds do they live up to the reputation and why

I agree with all the others who've said the DA and FA limiteds have well-earned reputations. Do you have the K-1? If you plan to stay with APS-c, your dollar will go farther with the DA Limiteds. True, they are slower aperture-wise, but all are strong performers. Like Savoche mentioned, some people prefer the older SMC versions, something I've often read in relation to the DA15.

The combination of 15|35|70 would serve well and you could almost carry the whole kit in your pockets. The 35 is close in focal length to your 40, but it is a very good performer and also gives you some macro capability.

Can only get one? If you tend to shoot wide, get the 15. If you tend to shoot close, get the 70.

If budget is not a factor, just get them all :) The three FA limiteds are almost universally considered the best of the Pentax breed for primes and you don't need a full frame camera to appreciate them.

FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH. Any way you go will get your a good lens.

The FA Macro is a really good lens...its review scores are right up there with the FA77 and FA*85, even though it's not a Limited or a *series lens.

By coincidence, I just got a M50 1.7 today! Based on a few photos, I like it a lot.
Yes, you will get the F....because your camera is not controlling the aperture, You will use the aperture ring, though seem people just shoot wide open.
I agree about reading the information on "Green Button Metering" that Photolady sent. It's really helped me get better shots with manual lenses.
Welcome to this forum....I have a learned an awful lot from the people here and they're very friendly to boot.

Buying used lenses has its risks, particularly when you don't get a warranty.

Des's caution is well advised. Having said that, I have had only good experiences buying used lenses from members of this forum. An honest and helpful lot. Price wise, I find prices here more reasonable than if I were buying used from a retailer/reseller like B&H or KEH.

I know postage and exchange rates are a big factor for international sales, but there are some pretty active forum members down under.

Enjoy your camp drafting and whatever "new" lenses you end up acquiring. Cheers.

Agree with what's been said about the texture, colors and patterns.
Like the cloud shadows. Especially like the lining in the green hills in the foreground....almost like etching.
Nice shot from a nice lens.

I'm not adding anything original here, but I have found both of them to be excellent companies to work with. I know B&H better, but my dealings with Adorama have been highly satisfying as well. And they're both very good, educational sources. I've learned a lot just visiting their sites.
