Thanks, good reply.
I thought this too, after initially thinking the lens had developed a fault, but it works fine on my Sigma 17-50? so it would suggest that it is a circ-pol, which is what I researched before ordering.
I used both auto focus and manual to narrow down the problem, just couldn't get it sharp, used x100 zoom too.:hmm:

Hi.
I have just used a Haida polarize filter for the first time on my 300mm lens, I could not get a decent sharpness, initially suspected the lens had developed a fault, so checked it out, good focus without filter, poor with?
Noticed this straightaway on the 300mm, but not on my Sigma 17-50 (f/2.8)when I used it recently, so also checked this lens too on same target, spot on focus on or off. The gearing is not so good on the sigma so where critical focus is needed I use manual focus, zoomed 100%. Struggled to tell the difference, filter on or off, in fact I would say filter on was sharper.
Not being an exact approach I've put this down to the user, but the point is, no determinable difference with the 17-50, big difference with 300mm. So much so I could see the error through the viewfinder which is no mean feat these days.
Although reasonably priced, these filters get a good right up, same glass as B+W........ I will keep it, as due to the light loss on the 300mm I always intended to use it mainly on the 17-50, and cannot fault it on this lens.
Any thoughts?

Hi.
You can add me to the list, so far an isolated incident.
I have also contacted Ricoh, which to me is an obvious first to do, i assume all above have done so too!
Please see below the response from Ricoh, which implies people are not informing Ricoh of the problem?
And yes I did also point Ricoh to this forum........

Dear Mr. R..............,
Thank you for contacting Ricoh Imaging
This is not a common problem, and we do not have any update avaliable for this particular issue.
If it happens again we would strongly reccomento to have the camera returned to be checked.
If you are in need of further assistance, please respond to this email or call our technical support center.

Maybe I wasn't clear:hmm:, Like others have said, this was an issue regarding image sharpness.
I use B+W filters when needed, 10 stop, Polarizer........., I'm in a desert now and have a filter on for protection....(Polarizer), if i feel it is safe to do so, no wind, moist air......it will be removed for the best image quality which includes sharpness.
Again as highlighted by others, my choice, I know it will affect the image quality but as you say sometime it is required.

I would highly recommend removing the 'Kenko UV filters' I have not used a so called filter since film days.
Always use the lens hood, protects the lens front and reduces flare........
nothing to loose, you may see a big difference.
see my images with the the SMC PENTAX-DA*300 F/4, no filter. https://www.flickr.com/photos/paulrookes/
+1 for SRS too

I read somewhere that the ISO are not the same on different brands, with the Pentax being more accurate.
It was suggested that the ISO difference was perhaps to mislead regarding noise levels.
This would also affect the exposure accordingly.

Regarding the AA filter, very, very important, bracketing with and without on a wedding shoot saved me some very important shots.:)
