Thank you. Typo.

---------- Post added 08-13-2015 at 02:19 PM ----------

There seemed to be a lot of confusion about the USD (US Dollar) vs CAD (Canadian Dollar) pricing. So I have added both.

Item for Sale
All of my gear...

Item Location
Vancouver British Columbia (Canada)

Item Description
Due to medical issue, I'm not getting out to shoot much. So I have decided to sell off all of my gear.
It is all in great condition and works perfectly. Most are back in the original boxes with original contents. Too much to add individual photos of so I'll just add a group shot. If you want specific close ups, let me know what you would like to look at.

All prices in Canadian $$ so should be some really good deals with the conversion.

Rear Converter-A 1.4x-L

Asking Price

Item Location

Item Description
Full disclosure. I have an offer for this lens. I am posting here so that the buyer can provide feedback for my account, and in case the sale does not complete.

I brought this one in from an ebay seller in Japan approx 3 years ago. It's in great shape and works well.
Use of this teleconverter blocks the auto-focus connection to the lens.
This teleconverter can only be used with specific lenses as it inserts into the lens.
Please make sure you have a compatible lens.

Attached are some of my photos from this morning. I'm working with the jpgs, and minimal processing to give you a feel for what's actually coming from the camera.
I have simply used the Photoshop PS4 auto contrast, and resized the image to make it appropriate for upload. No cropping or other editting has been done.

1. Q10 and Earl. Image of my 600 F4 with Earl's Q10 attached, and Earl.
2. We shot this cattail from about 20 feet away. The lens can focus down to less than 15 feet.
3. Cat tail approx from 50 feet away.
4.A duck from about 40 or 50 feet.
5. A shot showing the conditions we were shooting in. Lots of fog to deal with.

Earlier someone compared this lens to the new Pentax 560 F5.6. A reasonable thought.
This lens is a true full frame lens. The 560 is not.
This lens has a 150mm front glass. The 560 is a 112mm front lens.
The 560 does have a SDM motor for focus, so that would probably be faster and quieter.
This lens is an F4, The 560 is F5.6
Both are great lenses, and each will have it's uses.
I don't know if the 1.4XL teleconverter will work with the new lens.

If anyone has any further requests for information, or specific test photos, please message me. I would be happy to do any tests you need.

---------- Post added 01-25-2014 at 10:48 PM ----------

One more comment. On the last image. The bark that is visible on the Q10 screen is from the angled tree on the left side of the image. Probably 100 feet away across a slough.

I know of two other FA star 600mm F4 lenses in greater Vancouver. One of the two guys has both the K mount and the 645 600mm F5.6.

Let me know if you want to meet up to try it out. Probably going to Reifel Saturday morning.

---------- Post added 01-25-2014 at 01:26 PM ----------

Met up with EarlVonTapia from the forum at Reifel Island this morning. There was a lot of fog, so not optimal conditions to shoot the 600. He did get a good look at it, and we even tried out his Q10 which looks ridiculously small on the 600. That's an interesting picture, which I will post tomorrow after I get home. Thank you again Earl for taking the time to come out and look at the lens. Too bad that we had so much fog.

A shot of the Pentax Case, and the wimberly tripod head. (Required to use this lens effectively). Also a comparison of with and without the teleconverter. The teleconverter shots are just the jpgs right out of the camera, re-sized down so that I can upload them. No editing other than adding the text.

Ok, here are some snapshots of the lens. Taken this evening before the light was gone. K3 - 40mm Pancake. Cropped and merged, but no adjustments or cleanup. If serious, let me know and I can send you original files.

I will post a couple of what you see through it in a few minutes.

The lens hood used to stick and caused the scratch in the paint. That has been repaired, and everything works perfectly. Just shows it's age in the exterior paint.

I'll post some pictures tonight. For now, I plan to keep it as a set. Took me 5 years to find the tele for the lens, it would be a shame to break up the set. (Had to import the tele it from Japan).

---------- Post added 01-23-2014 at 03:24 PM ----------

The 1.7x does work. You need to close focus manually. However 1.7x is a long zoom on this lens, and makes it even more difficult to hold steady. I have one of those as well, and will take some test shots with my K3 on the weekend.

I'll post some photos tonight, and I understand you cannot give an accurate guess without them...

Any idea what this lens should sell for?

It works perfectly, just a little rough on the outside, from it long and exciting life.

Item for Sale
Pentax F* (F Star) 600mm F4 & A1.4x-L Tele & Wimberley Head.

Asking Price
9,999.00 CAD

Item Location
Vancouver (Canada)

Item Description
This is a great old lens, with an integrated double lens hood.
It looks a little rough on the outside, but works very well.
I will also include the Pentax 1.4x teleconverter, and the Wimberly gimbled tripod head.

The lens is Auto focus, but only manual focus while using the teleconverter.
The 600mm is a 900mm on the 1.5 apsc sensors. 1260 F5.6 with the teleconverter...
Takes a lot of practice to get sharp results. Holding your breath can make all the difference.

This one is getting a little heavy for me to carry. I think it is time for someone else to enjoy it.

There are two issues with my K5. The mode select knob at the top left was dented when my tripod was knocked over by a bystander. I was able to get a leg under the tripod and redirect the force, so it wasn't a huge hit. However the knob did take a dent. The camera worked perfectly. It was just difficult to turn the knob into the movie mode. All other modes it worked properly. The dent in the knob caused it to bind against the case when going into movie mode. Despite this injury, the camera worked perfectly for over a month.

The second issue was a memory card failure. It was a Lexar Platinum II card which was not in the camera during incident 1. Not sure what happened. When I removed the card it seemed normal. But when I tried to insert a new card, it would not go all the way in and click. It was almost all the way in except 1-2mm. Put the Lexar back in and it clicks into place. After examining the lexar card, it appears the bottom edge of the card has come off and is stuck in the slot. I assumed they would fish out the piece of plastic and I would be good to go.

Here's the quote from Pentax.

77777 DIGITAL MISCELLANEOUS 1 10.00
0077430 T100 MAIN CIRCUIT BOARD 1 296.67
0077430 0-A301 TOP COVER ASSY 1 80.76
LABOURDIG 250.00

I have no problem paying for the top cover, and even the labour. However if it requires a main board replacement wouldn't that indicate the memory card slot failed, and that should be warranty.

One of my main reasons for choosing and supporting Pentax was the service I have received in the past. Now, it seems that has been cut back as well.

When I attempted to contact them to discuss the repair, I was told to send an email to service @pentax.ca, and someone would get back to me. It's been 3 days and no reponse to the email. I'll try phoning again tomorrow, and post the results.

We're certainly in the minority... However, I thought I would never see another Pentax 600mm F4 "in the wild". Over the past couple of years, I've seen two others. Mines the F* and I've bumped into two Pentax shooters with FA* lenses. We're out there, you just have to look a little harder. (We're easier to find when carrying a walking billboard).

I have also dealt with Camtex when I need something done out of warranty. Foolishly thought I might get the work done faster through Vancam this time. Just the bottome end from a memory card card broke off and was stuck at the bottom of the slot. So I can't insert another card. (Lexar Professional Card). I agree, for the right job, Camtex can be excellent. I had them clean and recoat a drop in filter for my 600mmF4, and they did a terrific job. I think the cost was around $30.00.

Thanks for the replies. I picked up the K5 Saturday. They didn't have any apologies for me, just refunded the deposit I had left and handed over the camera. So I have packed it up and have shipped it directly to Pentax Canada in Mississauga. I enclosed a copy of the VanCam work order, and a request to expedite the repair. I'll let you know what happens.
