Hi Margriet, thank you for the comments!
I had not considered the natural-artificial relationship between the tree and building before, and I think you are right about those points strengthening that contrast.
The more I look at the image, the more I agree with your comment about seeing more of the building. I don't think cropping the image will accomplish this, because too much of the important part of the tree would be lost. If the opportunity arises, I will try a shot again from this location and attempt to better balance the tree and building.
Thanks again,
Dave

Good to hear!
ibkc, once you have used the Kaiser digiShield with the K-01, I am sure a post here on the forums with your thoughts would be much appreciated!
It looks like the LCD would be completely obscured when it is not in use. I wonder if that would be annoying and how easy it is to put it on/take it off...

Great subdued colours - definitely evokes a feeling of early morning. I find the darkness in the top right corner a little distracting and might have cropped in from that side a little (or tried to use some editing software to lighten it a bit). Overall a very nice image!

I really like this last version. The no-so-warm tones work well. I agree with the above posters: the composition is great. I like that the woman and the flowers take up about equal parts of the image separated along the diagonal - it gives the image a nice balance. Great work!

Hello All,
This is my first request for critique. This image was made last night at the Alberta Terminals Building in Edmonton, AB.
I left the house with the intent to use only one lens and to shoot for black & white.
The way the lights from the terminal illuminated one side of the branches on the tree really drew me to this spot. I included the building for context for the source of the light. The exposure time was 10 seconds and I think this shot was at f/8.
I quite like the lightness of the tree against the dark sky on the upper part of the image and how it plays against the darkness of the branches on the lighter cloudy sky near the bottom. The blown out lights in the window bother me a tad, and I regret not bracketing which would have allowed me to keep that detail. The composition was also a little bit of a question. I wanted the building to be closer to the point at which the horizontal and vertical 1/3 lines cross; however, when I tried that, I lost the trunk of the tree on the right (which I decided was more important).
I would love to hear what you think, and where improvements could have been made shooting or in post.
Thanks!

Wow! Such a response! Thanks to everybody who commented :)
Sounds like I might be frustrated on occasion by bright sunlight; however, given my tendencies toward wide angles and deep depths of field, I don’t think that will be so large a problem as to steer me away from this camera.
I do shoot sometimes with a P&S. It’s my girlfriend’s. Because of my long arms, I end up being the one holding it out to look back at us… bright sunlight hasn’t been a problem with *that* LCD yet!
Will also be keeping my good old *istDL as a backup body. If I find myself wanting to spend a sunny afternoon shooting and find I can’t see the screen, I won’t be totally SOL.
I like the idea of being able to bring the camera into places where ‘pro’ cameras are not allowed & being less obtrusive for street photography.
I also just found a gift certificate in my drawer for 100 bucks for my local photo store. Between that and the posts in this thread, I am convinced! Now it is just down to colour :)

Hello All,
I am due for a new camera body. I had been planning to purchase a K-r this year, but the announcement of the K-01 has changed things up a bit.
There are a lot of positives with the K-01, and it would obviously be a huge upgrade from what I am using now (an *istDL). What I am a little concerned about is the lack of a viewfinder. A number of commenters in this forum indicate that the lack of a VF is a deal-breaker! I have never used live-view on a DSLR (other than playing arround with K-r's in camera shops) and do not know if I would really miss a VF.
Has anyone here made the switch from a traditional DSLR to a camera without a VF? Do you miss it, and why? Were there certain times when the lack of a VF was more of an issue than others? Presumably more-so at longer focal lengths? Should the lack of a viewfinder be a deal-breaker if you are not a wildlife photographer?
The vast majority of my photos are made on while travelling on vacation and I like to shoot mostly with wide angle lenses. The most common lenses I use at the momment are a Vivitar 28 mm and the Pentax 10-17mm Fisheye.
Thanks in advance!
Dave

Hi, My name is Dave and I am new :)
I only recently started reading the forums here (to learn more about the K-01, actually).
Now that I am here, I have noticed the red title bars with white text look awful familiar... I think I've been reading lens reviews here for some time without having ever looked much deeper at the rest of the site! I am glad that I have now, as it looks to be a pretty lively forum!
