The glass is free of scratches and dust, and there are no issues front or back focusing. There are no dings or scratches on the barrel, but the paint near the tripod collar is worn and has begun to flake.

Sigma 100-300 f4 + 1.4x Teleconverter Asking Price
1200 USD Item Location
Boston, MA (United States) Item Description
This is a Sigma 100-300mm f/4 APO EX telephoto zoom and a
Sigma 1.4x APO EX DG teleconverter.
82mm Hoya SMC UV filter and Lowepro lens case and the original Sigma case for the teleconverter are also included.
I purchase the Sigma 100-300 from a forum member three years ago, and purchased the teleconverter new at the same time. The lens is in good condition, with some wear on the barrel. The optics are excellent. The teleconverter is in like new condition.
I love the lens, but the size and weight keep me from using it when I travel, so I am selling it to buy something more portable. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

There seems to be a tradeoff - if you have the time, you may not have the money, but when you have the money, you probably do not have the time.
As an engineer, I do travel for business to some interesting (and not so interesting) places. What I carry depends on the agenda for the trip. I'll drag the DLSR and 1 or 2 lenses if I am going to be in someplace interesting for a couple of days. If its a multi-city roadshow, I may forgo a camera altogether.
I'd keep it simple if your travelling for work - a good walking around lens (e.g., 17-70) is really useful. The pentax 50-200 or 55-300 is a good addition for when you need something longer and won't weigh you down or take too much room. I used zing covers and pouches and pack the camera in my carryon and skip a case altogether.
When I travel with my family, I look at where I am going. The 17-70 goes with me everytwhere, but the 100-300 only goes if I feel that I have something that justifies lugging it and a tripod with me (e.g. Alaska). Above all avoid the temptation to bring everything "just in case." Keep in mind that your going to have to carry everything you bring at one or point or another.

I am travelling to Alaska this August with my wife and kids:), and am looking for advice on how to take advantage of this opportunity without detracting from the rest of my families enjoyment of the trip and activities.
I am going from Anchorage to Talkeetna then Denali and back to Whittier by train, then taking a cruise that will include Glacier Bay NP, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan over 12 days.
I have a K10D with a sigma 17-70 and 100-300 f/4 on the way. I own an tripod, but am debating if I should bring it, buy a monopod, or both. The twist is that my son (13) will be travelling with his first DSLR ( K100D with 18-55 and 50-200 kit lenses), so I want to give him the chance to take some great pictures too.
Advice on locations, equipmment, logistics, etc. are all welcome

Sigma just released the 120-400 HSM OS. Its variable aperture, and its unlikley to be as good optically as the 100-300, but its street price is $200 less. I suspect that this the "replacement" for the 100-300, at least for now.
Makes me glad that I bought the non DG version of the 100-300 lens last weekend...
