SMCP-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited **Price Reduced**

Item Location
Bay Area, CA (United States)

Item Description
I purchased this items from B&H in April of this year. It has only been used a few times as I find I prefer the FA31 and that tends to be on my camera all of the time. The condition is like new and comes with the original case, box, and paperwork. This is the MIV version. I find this lens to be very sharp and its nice and small. My favorite part about the FA lenses, is they did not seem to require any back or front focus adjustment on my K-5. The same cannot be said for a few other lenses I have tried.

Shipping included to conus, international buyers pay actual shipping.

Don't be so hard on yourself, in my opinion you are doing just fine. The fact that you identified something specific in your picture that you would like to improve means you are paying attention and that is a great start to getting better. Use the 'bland' colored walls to your advantage for a nice neutral background for the OOF area. The shots are beautifully sharp and I like the composition on the first two.

I'm a bass player and had to ban myself from my favorite gear forum due to GAS. It's embarrassing how many amps and cabinets I went through last year.

Congrats on the new K-5. Thanks for sharing the pictures and flickr stream, I really enjoyed the garden pics. In my opinion there are some great shots that could really stand out more with some simple PP. If you don't currently do much post processing, I would encourage you to look into it. I personally like Adobe Lightroom and with the recent price decrease its quite the bargain. Scott Kelby's book The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Book for Digital Photographers is a great guide for learning to use it.

I'm in Alameda. I've seen many of your landscape shots in the Sigma 10-20 thread recently and really like them. I've been thinking of getting one of those or the DA15 and would like to buy you a beer and pick your brain about those lenses and landscape photography, if you'd be up for it. Also, nice pano with the 31.

Thanks bickrs! I really appreciate the feedback. Great photos as well, I especially like the 3rd shot and the last one. How is everything going with the new baby? Getting enough sleep?

Thank you Mike. Where are you located in the East Bay?

Thanks Wired! I like the Calgary shots. At first I was drawn to the lights in the first one, but I think the second image is my favorite. Really like the perspective.

X100 auto focus issue

I agree with is, especially given the amount of composition correction needed to adjust for parallax when focusing close up if using the OVF. However, If someone doesn't have any experience with the X100, this is part of the learning curve. That and using manual focus with the AFL/AEL button to focus instead of the standard half press of the shutter button. It took me quite a bit of trial and error and the reading of blog posts to figure how to work around this cameras quirks. Both Zach Arias and Steve Huff wrote good articles on their blogs concerning this topic if anyone is searching for common tips and tricks of using the x100.

Unfortunately I don't have my X100 anymore, traded it for the 31mm ltd after I bought the K-5. Looking through this thread makes me want one again. Any X100 users play with an X-Pro1 yet? If so, what did you think?

Here are some of my favorite shots from when I had the X100.

I think my X100 is sticky......

That sounds exactly like the sticky aperture blade issue. Mine did the same thing. The good news is that the repair turn around is very quick, especially if you talk to the repair department and let them know it is needed for an upcoming trip and they know it is on the way. I sent mine on a Monday and had it back on Friday, just in time for a family vacation.

I like the soft releases from this company, especially the Bip. Recommend using a bit of plumbers tape on the threads as they tend to come loose and fall off.
Beep - Boop - Bip - Bug

The JCC lens hood and adapter ring work quite well and are much cheaper than the Fuji.

Favorite camera strap so far. They can be found on Ebay, but are a bit spendy. I wish I had one of these when I still had my X100. Kind of similar to the R-Strap, but better looking and it doesn't swing around and bump into stuff.

This works quite well for close up focusing. Also have the EVF on instead of the OVF. If using the OVF close up you will notice the background is in focus more often than the object.

If the funds are available I say go for it. The 31 is a fantastic lens and my favorite so far. If you don't love it should be easy to flip.

I like this method as well. I had an easier time getting repeatable results than I did using a focus chart.

I had the 55 for a month before sending it back. I got some pictures I was really happy with, but struggled with focus consistency. It got a bit better after I corrected the things I was doing to make it worse, but still found the focusing unreliable. Definitely recommend looking at the DA* club thread for some fantastic images from the 55. While it is capable of capturing some of the best images I have seen on this site, be sure to test it thoroughly if you purchase one.

K-5 & Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX OS HSM

I no longer own one, but I think the Sigma 17-50 is a great lens. I had no issues with it and the AF was fast and quiet. If I had any complaint it would be that I thought the colors were a bit cold compared to the Pentax lenses I had used. Below is a sample pic at 50mm/2.8. The only reason I sent it back was because of chance encounter with one of the FA Limited lenses. After that I decided to get the primes I wanted first and then if I felt the need for it I would get a standard zoom. In the event that I do decide to get one I will be repurchasing the Sigma. Given the recent price increase the Pentax 16-50 would not even be a consideration for me. In my opinion the Sigma is a quality lens and a good value.

Thank you. That is high praise for the 55, though looking at your results with it I understand why.

I'm not convinced either. I've had this lens for just shy of a month and it's a love/hate relationship. I've gotten pictures I'm quite happy with, but it always seems like a struggle to get there. I'm really considering sending it back and trying something else. I like my 31 so much, that I'm thinking about trying the 43 and 77.
