• TTL • Manual Full 1/2 1/4 1/8 1/16 1/32 - this i find most handy , as i can fire slave strobes without having to add the weight/cost of a flashgun or trigger..

I chose the d3200 over a k30. it was a good choice.
Had i have bought a k30 it would have been a backup for my k5 - nothing more
the d3200 is a lot more. the ability to manual control the onboard flash :) perfect for firing slave strobes without having to buy triggers or an expensive flashgun.
then theres the 24mp sensor, noise control is very good close to the k5 and image quality is stunning.
I havnt ditched pentax but i am edging my bets.

Thank you all for your advice.... the mount does look a bit iffy ... but i really cant remember if its always been like it...

i do think i may have solved the movement issue .. the quick release has a rubber base .. so i have prised the edge up and glued a piece of elastic band along one edge so it creates a lip that sits along the edge of the camera. it doesnt look pretty but it doesnt move :)

Tripod mount overtighten... Please advise

I have spent ages searching this ... In the manual it advises not to over tighten the screw on your tripod mount..
Now the thing is every time I try to use my tripod I can't get the camera to stay put . After finger tightening to a point where I could not turn any more ...there was still movement.
I did end up getting a screwdriver out and twisting a little more ... This made the camera stable but I am worried about over tightening.
The thing is the socket doesn't seem to be totally aligned with the hole on the outer case I don't know if I have done this or it was like it before....
What damage could I possibly do .as I thought it was a metal frame ?
And how do I get my camera stable on the mounting plate without tightening so much ?
Any help I would be grateful :)
I know it may sound silly but I have read so many posts advising not to overtighten but then none really elaborate

is this dust or stain

I'm not sure if its been mentioned but there is a setting to check for sensor dust in the camera - just below clean menu. this works really well. .. I had dreaded dust on my 3 week old k -5 ... I have 2 lenses both new and have changed between them perhaps 3 times...
I used the setting to lock the mirror up and 4 squirts with a rocket blower the dust has gone...job done ....
If only i didnt suffer from ocd there would be so many old manual lenses that i could buy really cheap :)

How good is the K-5?

I Purchased my k-5 about 2 weeks ago, I started out with Nikon... moved to Canon... and finally thought I was happy with Sony... they all have their pros and cons ... when I decided to save for a new camera... (it took me 2 months) I had a lot of time to look at all the reviews ... not only that I spent a lot of time on flickr looking at images taken with the various offerings. For me staying with Sony was a worry due to the slt ...(sensor dust drives me nuts so another mirror that cant be cleaned that can affect images would do my head in) Canon and Nikon both have in lens stabilisation.. The lack of lenses for the Pentax is a worry but looking at examples taken with what is available I dont think I need to be too bothered...
I have read so many my camera brand is better than yours threads... and it is mostly down to personal choice... for me I feel I will be very happy with my pentax and it was the right choice.

i know it really only seems to be long exposures ...
im not 100% sure it is a hot pixel ..

Hi,

Am very pleased to be here, I just bought my new camera today. im now the proud owner of a k5.
Its been nearly 20 years since ive owned a pentax camera.

I bought the camera without even trying it and had to then wait 4 hours for the battery to charge.
now ive had some time ... its the best decision ever the camera is awesome.
now i just have to start saving for some decent lenses :)
