Very sad to hear this,
I didn't really know him but I did appreciate his postings.
Perhaps the kindness and respect displayed here by the PF folks will help the family in one way or another...

I hope so.

Rest in Peace Bruce, I hope there are some really nice flowers up there.

Wow nice depth in that first shot Pinholecam! that FA77 is a nice lens for sure !

That 17-28mm lens I have isn't the best performer, it is really soft (but it gets sharp enough from f/8-f/11) and it has a lot of vignetting at 17mm and the coating is not too good (pentax coating is much better) ;)
But if you find a way to work around that then it can deliver the goods ...

Here's another one with the same lens, I had to crop a bit because the corners got really dark :(

Also shot with the 1dsmkII, with a lens that has a Pentax K-mount, the Vivitar 17-28mm @ 17mm IIRC.

Thanks guys for the kind words!
Alamo5000, indeed you can just use a simple adapter that doesn't interfere with the optical elements of the lens. The only thing is that aperture automation and autofocusing are lost, but to me that's not really a problem.

Pinholecame, the K 50 gives me better results than the M version I had earlier, even though it should be similar in optics.
By the way, your FA85 shot is fantastic!! I really need to get myself a fast 85 ASAP, thanks :)

Here's another shot of the same subject :)

My trusty Pentax K 50mm ƒ1.4 on a Canon 1dsmkii, wide open. I use this lens a lot on the Canon, it really does deliver the goods for me.

My Pentax-K 50mm ƒ1.4 has been giving me much better results on my Canon 1dsmkII than on the K-5, especially when used wide open.

Reasons are (as described by Terry):
- Lower pixel density, resulting in less CA and more sharpness across the frame. Or: the lens is behaving the way it was meant to behave when they made it back in the day.
- And the shallower depth of field plus the wider field of view helps me make better full body shots (better subject isolation while I can stand relatively close to the subject)

All good things, it's just a shame that there's no Pentax DSLR that can do this (yet).

I'm not saying that FF is better than APS-C, just that there are situations that justify my use of Canikon bodies :{)

Best wishes everybody for the new year!

There's lots of reasons to want FF!
After having used some of my older pentax lenses on a Full Frame Pentax film camera I began to wish for a digital camera that I could use those lenses on.
I must admit that I am now 'cheating' with an old Canon 1dsmkii which can use the Pentax lenses just fine.
It's nice to be able to use the lens the way it is supposed to be used, the FOV of a 50mm lens on FF is much more usable IMHO, plus you can use it wide open without the CA being as obvious as it is with APS-C camera's.
If Pentax comes out with a FF offering, I'll be buying it for sure because I love their menu system, the ergonomics and the value for money. And those nice lenses deserve to be used on a Pentax body instead of Canikon :)

Yes, this would be awesome, it would be truly fantastic if they were to include a FF version too. I use a 1dsmkII for Legacy glass and the full frame aspect really makes the lenses more enjoyable to use.
I'll just keep on hoping and playing :)

Semi stand for 120 format works great for me.
I use 600ml of water and 4-5 ml of rodinal. I pre soak for a couple of minutes first with room temp water, then I pour in the dilluted developer and agitate slowly for a minute. I let it stand for an hour , but at the 30 minute mark I slowly swirl the tank (like a wine glass) for 15 seconds. This seems to fix the uneven development issues for me.
Example

I do a lot of full body shots where I want subject isolation. With the K-5 and a K 50mm ƒ1.4 @ƒ2 there is some isolation, but it's not comparable to what you get with a FF. I used the same lens on a Canon 1DsmkII and not only was the isolation better, the subject was also more detailed simply because that same 50mm lens allowed me to get closer on FF.
I'd post some examples but my 1Ds is in for a servicing :(

Thanks tuco,
For box speed development I agitate slowly for 1 minute (approx. 20 times) and I let it stand for an hour. After 30 minutes I swirl the tank like a glass of wine for 15 seconds.
For a 1 stop push I just add 1 minute to the initial agitation period.
For more stops it's 1 minute of agitation in the beginning and a longer stand period (120 minutes with swirling every half hour)
I got the idea from P Lynn Miller:
Rangefinderforum.com - View Single Post - Rodinal 1:100

Thanks Henk, yes the water was warmer than usual so I should have agitated a bit less. It's also my first try with this film. But it's not too bad I think ;)

Picasa (free google product can do this) if you want,
If you shoot RAW, most raw editors have some sort of vignetting correction feature which can be used to create vignetting also :) e.g. RAWTherapee

Thanks Henk!
I exposed for the shadows in this case, take the following with a grain of salt as I'm not an experienced shooter by any means. :o
Usually when I use the prism with the lightmeter I just point the camera at the sky and I memorize the position of the needle on the lightmeter. After that I point the camera at the darker parts of the frame (and block the sun with my hand) and I meter the light again. Depending on the difference between the two readings I choose my exposure. It all depends on the look you want obviously, but this is what works ok for me. I really want a spotmeter though.

My copy of the 45mm lens has some scratches on the protective front glass so I had to bump contrast some in post and there is more flare than I care for, but I can't complain for 170 euro's ;)

The 105 is ok wide open, I did sharpen the full size image and then again some during resizing. what I like most about this lens is the rendering of the out of focus areas and the swirly bokeh you can get at times.

I develop my own BW film and send out my colour film at the moment.

True, I wonder how bad it would be.

I think it could be an improvement. I'd be interested in having both an EWLF (electronic waist level viewfinder) and an OVF (optical eye-level viewfinder) in one body. I bet it would be great for street shots and for low to the ground macro shots.

Interesting idea Matt!
Maybe you could keep the OVF by having the mirror up normally and have it close down only when taking a shot. The ovf will then be where the LCD is normally. You could have a new place for the LCD, above the sensor on top of the housing for istance.
Not necessarily smaller but it allows for different body-shapes.

Yes expose for the highlights because you don't want those to blow out. If you have a K-5 you can retrieve lots of data from (the underexposed) shadows during post processing. You'll want to shoot RAW for this reason alone. Good luck, and why not post some results in this thread for us to see? :)

I find myself wishing for FF for the following reason. I shoot full body street portraits and I want to have the option of having a nice and blurred background. I also don't want to stand too far away from the subject because I need to be able to communicate without having to scream. :)
If I use a 50mm ƒ1.4 lens on APS-C I can only get a little bit of blur in the background.
If I use a 50mm ƒ1.4 lens on FF I can get a nice and creamy soft background.
I'd have to use a 85mm ƒ1.4 lens on APS-C to get a similar effect but then I'd have to stand farther back to get the whole person in the frame :(

So just saying that there are plenty of valid reasons why people may want FF.
