that is seriously high price for non full frame, it's basically more than double than what I paid for K3, I hope price is a lot more normal once available because while I'm excited there is zero chance I'm buying body only for that much money, this won't be too good for future of pentax as well I would fear. I most likely will purchase on sale of some sort as it will let me keep using my pentax lenses for long time in to the future but they really pushing this now, no sigma options for cheaper glass is major turn off, lets hope things will change for better soon enough

k3+pentax flash and there is reduction to about 3fps as you said.
k3 with latest firmware and afg540 flash used, this was in manual mode as well so you would expect no slow down, Manual at 1/60 shutter and flash power at 1/16 and if i remember correctly even as low as 1/32
EDIT: this only happens when flash is turned on, if mounted but off no fps reduction happens

I thought i would hate the ricoh logo as well but i like it and wear it proud so if they are here to stay and develop our future DSLRs i have no problem with that at all. I do hope pentax name is there to stay as well as brand name for DSLR line but as long as i got new body with great new features every year or two for my lenses i'm happy to keep ricoh name in the open

most common (if not only for a while) chipset for motherboards to provide usb3 was very problematic, unusable for many things for long time, updated drivers resolved lots of issues (some are still left) so try updating your usb3 drivers

is there raw codec for windows anywhere or is there other way to get thumbnails and viewing in windows to work without having to always open pentax software?
also was the pentax Digital Camera Utility always slow like this or is this K3 file size slowing it down?

i agree with you 100% about OOF photos and I would give myself a lot of time to learn the whole product line they offering but if it is what i think it is then it wouldn't be hard to make short clip or just half a page with more "to the point" info so I can tell if I'm interested or not....

that is good question wizofoz, is this bug and how does C&N act?
if they can speed it up without penalty to metering than that would be great but i don't see it as end of the world just yet and sure as hell i'm sick of using manual flash on my K5 to get predictable exposure especially when bouncing

not to be rude but for the love of god people need to make short version of their marketing materials of "what my product does"
it could be great software but I really don't want to spend my saturday trying to find out what it does without guessing and what goes with what and what extra do i need for it.....
i pass till then....

can't stop testing lol
packed k5 again
unpacked again
final conclusion
1. best way to test is to use build in flash, set your camera to M and set T and A to match flash, 1/125 or whatever it is (shutter noise needs to be constant to spot the difference best)
take few snaps with flash then as you glued to view finder close onboard flash and do few more shots, then pop flash open again and so on.
2. delay is very very small, this isn't half a second, not anywhere near that
3. there is difference between k3 and k5
4, considering that k3 does PTTL metering so well one have to wonder if maybe k5 was the one with real problem and was firing before correct metering could be done
for me only question left here is if they can speed up the process without messing up metering as we seen in previous models, because as much I love fast and responsive camera I prefer well exposured shots more

done some more messing around this issue and I can tell difference when i use P-TTL mode on my PF540 vs manual flash mode
I said before that i don't notice difference between k3 vs k5 but that would be because i almost always use manual mode.
I might unpack K5 again and compare in P-TTL mode but just when you think about what the P-TTL does I would have to think there will have to be slight delay as well.
saying that, difference from manual to P-TTL is so minimal I have to do few quick shots without P-TTL and then switch to P-TTL and fire couple of shots right away to notice the difference

to be honest i would love to keep my k5 but the AF is ruining my fun
I can put on 50mm 1.4 and it will be perfect outside but under lights inside the house i have to dial in -7
this goes for just about all lenses that are fast enough to notice difference
had body repaired, replaced, they all do the same, I even demonstrated the issue to pentax tech and all he had to offer was puzzled face
as is i feel ripped off that i have to spend money on upgrade i don't want or need but if i do would hate to face same problems so i'm very happy to see this thread.
would love someone with pentax FA 50mm 1.4 do some shots wide open outdoor and indoors under tungsten light with no sunlight around coming in via windows, is there difference in FF/BF?

V1.10
the odd thing is improvment is now gone and no i'm not crazy
i wonder if there is relation to battery level because this just makes no sense.
both most used lenses now act as they did in past, perfect outdoors and need -6 for indoor lighting

bit late to the party but that gave me chance to read people comments about AF fixes before i did upgrade so i did some before and after of same objects and i see huge change in AF performance.
before i had to set -6 to get 50/50 spot between inddors and outdoors, now i reseted AF fine tunning to 0 and my worst lens (sigma 17-50 f2.8 hsm) works really well now no metter the conditions, just as good as when used with live view focusing.
i'm yet to test it real night conditions under indoor lighting but my basement test with minimal sunlight going in under the house seem spot on as well so i expect no change there fingers crossed.
even my old FA50 wide open at f1.4 is sharp and crisp like never before with AF
only sad thing is that we had to wait for this fix for so long, i virtually stopped using my K5 that i got in 2010 because of this AF mess, i could find my way around it but i do photography for fun and it was just getting too much "ok lets dial in different AF setting yet again or shots will be ruined"
EDIT: now that got dark in my office room i did tungsten light AF test and still with fine tune AF on 0 (off) my FA50 focuses spot on even wide open !!!! I hope this is not a dream

how about you get serious.
i own K5 and AF is poor at best if you using fast lenses and if you think that all people with this problems don't own K5 and only come to whing to forums to give pentax bad name you need to wake up.
and AF adjustment feature is almost useless as well because AF is all over the place under different light type.
adjust lens outdoors and it is very good but go under indoor lights with same lens and it is miles off and god help you if you taking photos under mix conditions, who is there to know which way your K5 will go?
if i didn't have so much pentax gear i would NEVER go near pentax camera again but since i got so much money buried in to pentax i just got all of my fingers crossed that one day they pull their heads out and release K5 replacment that have reliable AF.
and no it isn't my unit only, i believe they ALL have problems just some people never use with lenses or conditions that trigger the problems, eg. if i always use K5 in studio then it would be perfect, i would never know AF got issues or if i never used lenses with large and wide open apertures then issue would not come up.
i had my camera replaced 3 times, and "repaired" once.
pentax service centre ignored the issue and focused on problem of exposure being different in same shot when taken with use of liveview vs shot taken via viewfinder.
they replaced my camera because of that just for me to discover they ALL act same way as well.
so yes, once again GET REAL
