Hello fellow Pentaxians,
It's been a while. I am getting back into photography. On a trip to Niagara Falls this weekend I took a few night exposures of the falls. Upon returning home and loading RAWs into Aperture, I notice that my K-7 has gone crazy with hot pixels. It's very prominent on long exposures. See example. The converted jpg and viewing in browser is not as noticeable as the RAW in Aperture, but there are a lot of them. 100%
[note: no post on this photo]
I see from a quick search this has been a problem for a while. I do recall upgrading my K10 firmware some time ago for similar reasons, I don't believe I did a firmware upgrade on my K7 though.
To my question: Would the latest firmware fix this problem? I used the pixel mapping function on the camera, but I've not tested a long exposure yet.
Also, not related to this subforum, but can I remove these easily from my photos or do I have to touch up each individual dot?

New K-7 owner here, I'm generally quite happy with it. However, I'm not sure what the problem is, but metering between the viewfinder and the lcd is vastly different. I realize the lcd displays more stops, but that's not the issue.
For example, say I'm metering a scene and the lcd shows -2ev, the viewfinder says it's 1 stop overexposed. The lcd shows the 'correct' metering -- it's to the point where I can't seem to trust what is shown in the viewfinder. It's unacceptable to me to have to rely on the lcd, as it makes composing shots a pain if I'm not using Live View (which is about 95% of the time).
Does that make any sense or am I crazy?

Count me in! So just to reiterate, we can't bring camera bags? No extra lenses eh? Hmm... I'll have to decide what to bring. More than likely the 16-45, but possibly a prime. Maybe I'll go film actually. We'll see. I predict it will be a nice day, so maybe we can go shoot somewhere else after.

I was going to start a new thread for this, but I find the cross-microprism focusing in my KX to be rather difficult to focus in low-light. I think I'd like to get a split-image to replace the microprism. I tried out a friends Nikon film body (not sure what kind) and found focusing a lot easier.

Hey all,
Thanks for the responses. I'll be picking up a genuine adapter from either Vistek or Henry's sometime this week. For some reason I just assumed neither company would be able to find a genuine adapter for me, but apparently they stock them. I guess that should've been the first place to look before ebay. Oh well, lesson learned. Fortunately I've been able to use my FA 50 1.4 in the meantime.

How do I load a half used can of film in the my camera, or more specifically, how do you advance forward the film to the previous exposure, say #14? Isn't tripping the shutter going to do a multiple exposure?? I'm new to film.

Thanks for the replies. And yes, it does not focus to infinity, so I'll have to try and find a better adapter. Apparently B&H has a decent one. Of course, I'd rather have the genuine Pentax adapter.

I recently purchased an M42 screwmount lens for my KX, but the adapter I got off ebay doesn't seem to mount the lens properly. When the lens is attached to the body it does not line up how a k mount would normally and appears about 15-20 degrees counterclockwise. (Geeze, I don't know how to explain this well). Is this going to affect focusing at all?
I know I should have bought the genuine adapter, but it was 99 cents!

Hey All,
I'm using rechargeable CR-V3 (Li-ion) batteries for my K100D and I was wondering the approximate running time on the batteries. I was just looking through the manual and noticed that it is not recommended to use rechargeable batteries as they "may cause malfunctions due to their voltage characteristics." [p26]. Is there anything to this, or is it just Pentax covering their asses? I would very much rather continue using rechargeables, as I'm sure everyone is aware of how expensive batteries are. Thanks.

Hello everyone,
First off, I'm a complete noob. I just got a K100D for christmas, and I know next to nothing about photography in general, though it has always interested me. Anyhow, I wonder how you store your camera's day-to-day. Should I be removing the lens and putting the covers on, or is it fine to leave the lens attached? Thanks in advance.
ps Any good beginner photography books you recommend?
