There was an airshow at the Caroline Bay Rock Hop this afternoon. I was at home, but grabbed the K-3 III, slammed the 55-300 PLM onto the camera, switched to my U2 settings (birds in flight, high speed continuous autofocus) and enjoyed the show. It is fair to say the K-3 III does ok in this mode - 443 images later, all handheld. The flightpaths came past our place several times, so I got some images I was happy enough with. Not what I usually shoot, so those of you who specialise in this - please be gentle. I was impressed how well the K-3 III and 55-300 PLM combo worked in this situation.

If I had remembered the airshow was on I would have had the 250-600 on the gimbal on the tripod, which would have led to a different set of images :)

I want to support Pentax, but…

As someone who has way too many Pentax lenses - I enjoy hunting down unusual or rare K-mount lenses on the second hand market, mostly they are no longer sold new. But I have brought my respective K-5, K-3 and K-3III camera bodies new, and I have also brought a number of lenses new, the most recent being the HD FA43 from B&H when I was in New York late last year. Everyone has their own patterns of gear acquisition that suits what they are trying to do and what they enjoy.

Pentax is still here, and still selling new gear. I enjoy that I can use old and new Pentax lenses on both digital and film cameras. I am not worried that Pentax cameras and lenses may not be the latest and greatest as the gear is not my constraint, it is my abilities and time to learn, which I know I can remedy.

I am puddling around with old Pentax film cameras and want to see the current Pentax Film project succeed, so they will produce the next planned items in the project.

I am happy to buy the new half-frame when it arrives, and enjoy learning to use it.

Thanks Allister. It is not often that Lake Tekapo is that still, so it was definitely a bonus :)

Thanks GUB. The Zeiss lens certainly helps with the capture. It is a stunning bit of glass.

Goodness you drive for a morning and attend meetings in the afternoon and miss a whole conversation :).

I drove from Timaru down to Central Otago today, it was a beautiful day weather-wise and a nice time of year for the drive. A couple of images from Lake Tekapo and Lindis Pass. K-3 III, Zeiss 35/2

I don't know about hot pixels, but I did enjoy this evenings sunset in Timaru. Image taken from my back yard. K-3 III and Zeiss 35/2. Processed with Capture One and a sunset oriented style.

Thanks for the link Allister, I had never heard of Glass, so I will have a look.

Thanks for getting the lens case down to Timaru Arpe - the SMC 3.5/28 looks right at home in the case

Given I have that lens, but no case for it - I would like to put my hand up for the case - assuming no one else here wants it.

PM me to sort out the details.

Cheers

Ross

Just letting you all know there are three FA 645 lenses on TM all with $1 reserve.

I do not have a Pentax 645 system, but for any of you that do this might be an opportunity :)

Cheers

Ross

The system I use is camera name, number, image counter so currently, K33# then the image counter. One of my recent images was K3305909.DNG. The #, 0 at the moment is changed when the image counter gets to 9999. So at that point the image names would be K3309999 then reset the name - K3310001 and on it goes from there. I use the copyright info in camera for logging my personal details.

This system has worked well for me, as every file name is unique, but tied to the camera used. I have used this system since I purchased the K-5, 12 years ago.

Enjoy your holiday at home, and get well soon :)

A positive suggestion, but I think if I tried that it would be probable that I would not be able to get up again. Granted, that would give my photography a new perspective, but it might be rather restrictive for the rest of life :)
