Live View issues

I do suspect that some cameras are noiser than others. From reading the threads in the past noise did come up but normally only noticed in a very quiet room. Mine is very noisy and virtually everyone including the shop where I bought it have noticed the noise as soon as you go into live view, hence it being sent back to Pentax twice. It is so noisy that I have considered getting rid of it even though in normal use it is a stunning camera. I would love to compare it with another camera but as they are rare I don't know anyone else with one.

My camera makes the same noise. Even when still in live view and video mode it makes a mechanical whiring noise which gets louder when the camera is moved which can also be heard on the video sound track. It has been sent back twice to Pentax under warranty and each time I have had it returned saying the noise is normal and is the SR motors.

When I purchased my K5 I spent quite a while reading the manual and trying to get my head round all the different settings. In the end I dusted off my old K1000 and had a play with that just to remind myself that there are only so many settings that really matter. It certainly made using the K5 lots clearer.

K5 shutter noise

Finaly go round to taking my camera into the shop to check the shutter noise against a camera they had. It turns out mine is far noisier than it should be and has been returned to Pentax. The noise was such that video mode was unusable due to the noise from the sensor. Getting them to calibrate my level as well which also seems to be out. Looks like I will be without the camera for a while.

Interval shooting

Yet again I find that if I had read the forum a bit more closely I would have found the solution in the K-5 for Astrophotography thread by Skymist (many thanks, most useful).

It turns out that the activation intervals are not intervals between shots but between shutter activations. Hence I should have used an interval of at least 31 seconds for my 30 second exposures. The reason for the short number of exposures was that the camera was jumping exposures.

Have to hope for another clear night tonight to have another go.

Interval shooting

I tried out using the interval shooting mode on my K5 last night to take a series of 30sec star images which I intend to stack using Image Stacker (not used this yet). I set the camera to take 60 images and gave a 10 second interval for each to allow the camera time to write the image using jpg.

After the first image I counted a 10 second pause, next it dropped to around 7 seconds. After about 10 images interval timing stopped working. I adjusted the time interval shorter and a bit longer and got similar results except it took less images on shorter times and more on longer.

Anyone else have experience of using this mode and had any problems. I am guessing it's to do with writing to memory but I was able to sit with the camera and just trigger the shots using my remote at only a few seconds interval without any issues.

I have just bought a K5 and had it about a week. Amazing bits of kit:)

I notice that when in live view or video mode with the mirror up there is a quite audible whirring noise from the shutter which also comes out on the video sound. Is this normal or should I return it to the shop to be looked at? Thanks for you help
