I feel like an idiot...I forgot how the dials on the Nikon are reversed of sorts from the pentax (im so used to using the front e-dial on the pentax as the main one), on my Nikon, I reveresed the dials so it be like the Pentax (front e-dial for S, rear/main for A, Nikon had it the other way around)..
so I tried it again, Rotated rear dial..on 'P' it aperture along w/ the shutter...

you can lock shutter and and aperture in M shutter in S and Aperture in A via the menu (shutter and aperture lock)
as far as menu diving...not that bad, as I can create a custom menu on settings I want to change more often that not on my D700...
as far as program shift...nothing on the d700...P is fully auto...
hyper-modes I do miss when i'm on my d700.
most of the time im in Av or in M on both camera's tho, but there are times i wish I had the green button on the Nikon

wow...i went to eat dinner, and another page was added...
I will attest to the d700's low light abilities...it is astonishing...
having said that, someone in here also mentioned that it's an FF camera, and it is a bad comparison (and I agree)
...but getting usable iso 4000 and 6400 shots is just great...
BUT it will also hunt and miss at times..it's not perfect, but I've been able to get more usable shots in lower light conditions than I have w/ the k20/10.
(and just to add, I have the af assist beam turned off on the d700, it doesnt help that much anyway, and it's just annoying, i dont use the pop up flash on the k20 either..thats even more annoying)
also someone mentioned about using a 540 fgz in sb mode....yes..that is a very good option or route to go....but still not quite as fast as the d700.
thing is, u just cant expect miracles...all these camera's regardless of make...has limitations...
it really is up to the user to make it all work together...

hm..I found the colours on the k20 come out more vibrant than on the d700...I tweak a bit more on post to get some colours right on some of my d700 shots...
here's a comparison i did not too long ago..not the best.. but...
i forgot the settings ( i have to look at the original exif...)
but here's the set up
k20d da*50-135
d700 micro nikkor 60mm
i found the greens come out more on the k20's shot...
both were on RAW "general punch" applied in LR

quick note..it does take a while for it to write on the card if you do a full burst...so it may have been writing ...(did u see the access light blinking?)
not sure bout the live view problem..I've only used it a few times and it was no longer than a few seconds

one fun thing i do w/ that lens..i have someone stand just a lil bit in front of me and to the side, and i'll take a shot...they'll be so amazed at how wide that thing is...
