First roll , total disaster

I got the pictures printed (from the negative :) ) and they came out ok, I kinda panicked for nothing, since on paper things look pretty good ; from my point of view, 5-6 pictures are good, which is pretty decent out of 36.

As for the Zenit, I tried metering the shots with a leningrad4 lightmeter, but the exposure values were totally different from the zenit's internal meter, also totally different from my nikon's metering (which I eventually used to shoot the zenit with).
As soon as I get the roll out of the zenit, I'll post some scans here.
Sorry for the external links, but this forum doesn't support large images, so it's pretty difficult to compress already scanned pictures..they'll look very bad.
@kcobain - I go to Bucharest once a month , so I'll give those guys you recommend a shot ;)
Thank you very much for the advice guys !

Thank you very much for the advice !
First of all, the guy who processed my photos didn't know about the existence of adapters between different mounts, told me that higher resolution with their scanner only means losing picture quality and on top of all, after digitizing my rolls, put them on a dvd, told me to go home , pick the ones I like and come back, for him to print them...
Since the zenit roll wasn't scratched, the guy told me that my nikon has a problem , since only that roll was scratched.
My zenit does have a problem, after I remove a roll of film, i have to load it 10-15 times until the curtain does a complete and fast run, but I honestly don't know how to load the film by the book ; I simply make sure that the leader is tangled a bit, so the film advances...
Today I'll shoot both cameras, using the Nikon as a lightmeter for the Zenit, I'll get them processed after Easter.

Thank you very much for all your opinions, I hope the next rolls will be more satisfactory .
Dan.

Hello everyone !

Today I got the digital version of my first rolls of film ... it's a complete disaster for both cameras I have used.
First was a zenit 12 with a helios 44 and a jupiter 9 ; the shots are simply scraps, ok, maybe the lightmeter is a bit off, but the shots are compromised.

Next was my "new" nikon f80 with a 28-100 G, which was supposed to produce sharp pictures, although it's plastic ; the pics are brownish, soft and some have scratches on the film.

Please explain to me how did these shots become so awful ?
Is it possible that those who processed the roll are simply imbecils ? Or the roll was old and somehow repacked ? (expiry date in 2013, kodak color plus 200)

Thank you very much, I am sorry for interfering with non-pentax cameras :) Still, my M42 heroes are on this forum, so I can't help it :)

I still couldn't figure out how to make this lens work with the nikon-M42 adapter, I've taken out both spacers, but still the lens focuses between 0.5 and 2.5 meters, that's all ...

Any ideas ? In red are the spacers.

The "daddy" of this dismantling/adapting procedure is here : Helios 44-2 adapted to Nikon F - No-glass adapter and infinity focus (Page 1) - Maintenance & Repairs - Manual Focus Forum
His last post states that u need not modify the metal parts, but just remove a spacer between the lens, so it will focus on infinity when using an adapter. The only spacer that I found is very easily accessible by removing the first internal ring (see the pics), then just drop the two lenses and the spacer between them. The only problem is that by removing that spacer, the two small lenses will rub against each other, probably misaligned from the start.
If the starter of this topic is so kind, he could ask on the other forum which spacer to remove , since registrations are not available there, so I can't do this myself.
This helios is an early model, it has no A/M switch, it has an extra f stop ring right at the front, which lets you "block" certain apertures.
BTW, what kind of solvent can I use to properly clean the lenses ?

Hi everyone !
I just got on this forum, found it while searching "helios M44 dismantle" :)
Today I bought a zenit E for aprox 3 $, since it was totally ruined, probably tossed in someone's garden.
The Helios is pretty simple to disassemble up to a certain point, so I'll try and post my experiene so far :
First of all you must have a watchmaker's screwdriver set, otherwise you won't be able to unscrew the minuscule screws.
The focus ring is the first to come off, just unscrew the 3 tiny ones, then you hit the more difficult part, removing the aluminium/black metal part (the piece that moves up and down the helicoid) : this is fastened with 3 mini screws which you must remove, then lubricate it with some spray grease for removing seized bolts (WD-40 is for something else), i use something from Wurth and let it work for a few minutes ; this piece has two slots on it, there probably is a special tool for them, but i used a screwdriver and a small hammer (50 g) and punched little by little on one of these slots. counterclockwise, as you would normally unscrew a bolt ; Girlfriend might come in handy, so she can hold the lens pressed while you bang it ;)
After you remove this, unscrew the stopper screw then simply lift the upper ring, then unscrew the last piece from the helicoid.
Below you have the pictures of : the upper ring , the aluminium part which you have to bang and the threaded piece that slides on the helicoid.

This is how far i've made it, still haven't figured out how to remove the aperture ring ;)
Keep in touch !
Dan.
