I had my first, I guess you would say, formal shoot. My couple friend wanted me to do a maternity series for them, photosets for month 3, month 6, and month 9.
These are a couple of my favorite shots from month 3 from about 3 months ago lol. For this first set, I wanted to focus more on the couple and their moments.
Month 6 is coming up and they want to go to the beach this time. Now they know the sex of the baby, so it'll be easier to cater certain photo ideas and concepts I have in my head, plus the mom to be will be showing a lot more with a bigger belly so i'm thinking of some nice flattering angles and silhouettes to show off the belly.
I am basically trying to get some opinions on how I did, the couple loved the photoset I gave them, but I am always trying to improve myself for the next one. And would love any ideas or suggestions I could use that might have worked great for your maternity shoot.
I used a K3, and mainly a Bower 35mm f1/4, with a couple DA50 1.8 shots. And I had a buddy helping with a reflector for certain lighting situations. Critique by Mike Lam | Photobucket |

Just got this lens in the mail today, didn't get a chance to play with it too much, definitely need to use it more and learn how to use it, not used to having such a wide focal length. Haha. And need new set of filters for it.
shot with the k3 earlier today trying to get some test shots in. Raw format, quick Lightroom edit. |

so i just got my k3, here are a few test shots from the night i got it in, most shot with the da50mm 1.8, 1 shot from a tamron 17-50mm, and i think i have 1 shot in there of my friend's pitbull from my 2.8 asahi-m 135mm , although i usually shoot in raw, these were shot in jpeg and are straight from the camera. i am loving the k3 so far. there definitely seems to be a learning curve in obtaining sharp images consistently.
i started with a pentax optio point and shoot for snapshots close to 8 years ago, than i started getting more into photography, and got a pentax k10d close to 3 years ago, moved up to a pentax kx, then got a pentax k50 after selling my kx to my younger cousin, then got a pentax k01 for a less "in your face" set up when coupled with a 50mm. my friend made me an offer on my k50 last week, so i figured i'd take the plunge and see what the k3 is all about. its definitely a step up. the high iso performance on the k3 is great. autofocus is spot on and quick even in low light. the k3 is priced so well right now, i feel like i made the right move :)
my question is what recommended settings fellow k3 users use? as far as shadow/highlight correction, noise reduction settings, lens correction settings, and when to use SR and not to use it? |

taking a trip to San Diego this weekend. Considering picking up an ultra wide for landscapes but can't decide between 10mm, 14mm, or 16mm. Will be used on my k01 until my k3 gets here next week. What do you guys think?

Probably my favorite sunset shot of 2014, over the summer when I tried to learn how to fish, never caught a fish, but always caught a gorgeous sunset.

Thank you for the suggestion, I will probably look into an ultra wide then, i feel you are right in that I am missing out on the wide side.
I've been making due with extension tubes for macro, would love a suggestion for a good macro lens, as with the extension tubes I seem to have a very small focal plane to work with, I think a dedicated macro lens would be something I could get some good use out of, and appreciate.
I once again thank you for the insight, I've been using the same gear for awhile now so am out of the loop as far as what's the latest and greatest, super stoked to get my k3 in this week though :D
