Is Pentax K-5 sensor stain real?

IF Pentax ever has had a perfect digital camera it would be the 645d. Now there is one Pentax camera that does stand on it's own - as is. But one also has to wonder if they'll ever be updating it. Even though Hasselblad hasn't yet released the new H5, both Hasselblad and Mamiya should both have sensors in the 100mp range; most likely this year.

Optics and construction; plus the fact that the Sigma is made in Japan.

...Or one could generally wait a few months from when the more recent Sigma is released. Percentage wise it will sell for more used.

It is unfortunate though, better optics unfortunately come at a higher money price, but also at a much higher weight, also longer and wider lenses.

Gitzo or Manfrotto

I have enough camera mounting platforms to fill up a full sized pick-up truck; which would naturally include selections from both Manfrotto and Gitzo.

But it has generally been my experience that Gitzo's are made better, more durably, and to handle more weight. But all of that at a price. Be sure to take a look at some of the prices of the tripod heads as well. It's not difficult to easy exceed five hundred.

Schmutz? what schmutz? K-o1 sensor cleaning success

Let me cover this number of issues in a slightly different order.

First of all when anyone purchases a digital camera (in which one also has the ability to actually reach the sensor to also be able to clean it); then one would expect that the sensor remain basically as close to perfect as possible; especially under the warranty period and (more so) that it would not have ANY defects which would ever cause issues - even outside of the warranty period.

One also must realize two main issues here. 1. How much longer before one might have to clean the sensor again, and exactly how routine would this be? 2. Could the sensor possibly be getting damaged by this (visible to the naked eye, or possibly beyond that)?

...And not to be confused with any type of licensed professional legal advice; which would also depend on where one lives and all...

But you do have a legal case in all fifty plus states; especially if you also happened to purchase any additional gear at the same time or since. At the very least Pentax would actually owe you a new camera body.

Or if you would elect to pass on that one... Pentax should reimburse you for any sensor cleaning efforts, even if done completely by you. As a matter of fact they would also be liable for full service center servicing, and then some.

I know of many a lawyer (or even a firm) who would love this case.

Also in closing for now; consider how one paid for the camera. Typically using a credit card gives one an additional warranty; even technically - a type of double payday

Find me one single lens over the last ten years that has more issues than the Pentax 16-50. IF you go back over ten years you will find some. It's just that Pentax never addressed the issue to any of it's customers; which is a rather grave customer service issue that raises tons of red flags.

But as opposed to other issues, sure every camera and/or lens company has them, but at least they most always address them - instead of the Pentax burying it's head in the sand thing and almost hoping that it will go away.

Let me also point out; it will be interesting to see how widespread the sensor issue is with the Pentax K-01; and what response (if any) we'll ever hear from Pentax. So what Pentax is basically saying to each and every customer out there; is that - take a roll of the dice and spend a few thousand with us. It may work for you, it may not. This is also especially concerning to any person who might do any type of professional work.

Imagine having both the original Pentax K-5 and also Pentax 16-50 glass out with you when on an assignment. Imagine having either one (or even both) fail. Using Pentax to earn income also demands that one carries a second camera body and second lens wherever one goes.

Maybe that should be the new definition of Pentax: Carry back-ups wherever you go

On the other side of the spectrum... Nikon excels at customer service. They've even gone beyond warranty dates to address ANY issues

Numerous Pentax K-01's with the mystery oil/grease that get's onto the sensor; grave flaw with a camera body.
Pentax K-5: Mass flaws with sensor burn, typically caused by video
Two Pentax recent Pentax flagship lenses; one being the Pentax 16-50 - having at least two major issues - sdm failure and also zoom lock.

...And Pentax remains silent on most of this. Just wondering how many people out there have completely given up on Pentax because the company does not address customers on known failures that Pentax is the cause of.

One technically cannot use Pentax and reliable in the same posting

A good quote, basically per word from the Adobe site, but...

Unfortunately do not believe Adobe for their word, because it is highly inaccurate.

For instance item number three from your quote; again one hundred percent accurate as written from the Adobe site, but... Notice the up to 180 days... I've seen numerous cases where it isn't even half of that; many more where it isn't much more than five to six weeks.

So imagine having to be one of the many millions of people in america in places like West Virginia, Iowa, the Dakota's, Idaho, etc... Where one regularly does not have connection to high speed internet?

Has anyone also noticed that just a few short months ago there were 100+ existing marketed PK lenses. It is now down to about 90.

Really hoping it does not drop down to 80.

...And another reason that Pentax fails. Bringing out the wrong lenses to the wrong market. When (outside of the one single Pentax medium format) every single Pentax body does for well under 2k, let's bring out an ultra rare telephoto that sells how many copies?? Pentax must really wrongly believe that's it's difficult to make good glass that will also be popular. And that's it must also be difficult to release many lenses which are not rebranded.

Take a look at how many creative and/or career professional photographers (that make a living at it) are able to make it exclusively on Pentax. Which is why very soon Pentax won't even be anywhere near the top five, and will also basically eliminate themselves from ever getting back there.

One of the best selling cameras of all time; the Pentax K1000. Why not a current dslr of something such as this; as much manual as possible with perhaps match metering? If only Pentax could get the student cameras back again, they would be one step closer to their glory years

I'm unfortunately stuck to more frequently purchase new gear, but occasionally stumble upon a good used deal.

I could not agree more in that, "Pentax doesn't provide the tools - paraphrasing".

Cases in point... Macro work. Sure Pentax makes a variety of dedicated lenses which also have macro, but sadly missing are Pentax labeled extension tubes (even the third party ones don't transfer lens settings), PK bellows, and even a Pentax labeled teleconverter.

Flash isn't covered all that well either. Pentax has very limited Pentax labeled GN flashes. The flash units they do have are also not all that well made. Also one has to wonder whatever happened to the big rerelease (Pentax is infamous for minor upgrades) of the new horizontal swivel flash?? There's even very limited third party flash.

Sorry, but even with the most expensive Metz (currently the Mecablitz 76 MZ-5, typically priced above eleven hundred) it's not worth risking ones health or even life for it. There's enough stored power even in a very small flash unit to kill someone; even if that someone were given very specific instructions - it's almost too easy to accidently contact the wrong part, and then the flash unit might not be the only thing that was smoking

If that's the case, then it will be too late for Pentax to recover. That amount of time to "recover" is nothing short of unacceptable. The people at Sony, Canon, and Nikon must be sitting back and laughing their "blanks" off.

Insane move on lens pricing by Pentax

It's difficult to compare lenses between Pentax, Canon, and Nikon. Because the lens selection from Pentax is basically limited to about 50 out of 90+ lens items available in PK that are full frame; which includes third party ones. Whereas most of the Canon and Nikon lines are full frame.

To compare a non full frame lens to a full framer simply wouldn't work out all that well.

Pentax Lens Price Hike - Here we go again!

Well over the years; one has had the capability of adding Zeiss glass in the PK mount. As far as I can recollect, most of the Zeiss PK is also manual focus.

Pentax does make some very limited good glass, but out of the entire Pentax glass line - it's rare. Throughout recent history Pentax usually limits the size and weight of their lenses; and this bypasses a bit of the quality aspect.

So where is Pentax in a list...

Behind: Canon, Nikon, Sony, etc... Perhaps a tie for fourth in the market, maybe fifth. But also losing ground each and every day. Sure camera sales in general will increase, because population numbers and market reach also increase.

Pentax has really got to do a number of things... Increase marketing, get more camera bodies out there; especially full frame and at a price that is close to the entry level Nikon full frame, get considerably more lenses with both Pentax labels on them and also more incentive for more third party releases, and also get more products in general out there.

So at least two known issues with this one.

I'd be after Pentax on this one; in or out of warranty. Because if a flaw in Pentax design caused the issue, the they might very well owe that person an entire new camera

Wondering if it would be worth the time to edit out the wires and utility poles from the first one though. That's one reason I hate exposed above ground utility lines, and how many good pic they ruin.

Not entirely accurate.

It depends upon what year the photograph might be taken. The OP's noted photo does appear to be more recent, but... After a certain number of years it can be used as long as people are not the main subject. Also noting; if the photo as used in something such as research and/or education, as long as it could be accredited back to the original person who took the pic.

The Pentax K-01 would not work completely effectively with these two lenses; but in general not limited to these two lenses.

Any lens that has an aperature that "dips below" f4.5-f5.0 (generally) will have issues with the Pentax K-01 autofocus. Sure it's adaptable to, but some might also miss a pic over it.
