I recently had similar issues with my Vivitar 285HV when I attempted to connect via the PC port. Since then the flash did not fire at all from the hot shoe/foot or the PC port.
The test:
I attempted to use all of the wireless triggers I had (yungnuo/cowboy studios) - NO success. Tests with all of the other flashes I had functioned properly (Vivitar 283 & Vivitar 285HV). So I knew it was an issue with the one Vivitar 285HV flash unit.
The fix:
I removed the batteries, fired from the test button, removed the shoe/foot and noticed that the spring on the pc port was not making the proper ¨contact¨. I went ahead and soldered the connection together since I will NOT be using the PC Port and will ONLY be using the hotshoe for the Wireless trigger. I put it back together and it now works fine.
I hope this is is helpful for those of you who have the same issue and ONLY want to use the wireless trigger. See image below of where I soldered.

I´m happy to announce that I have officially returned to Pentax. Although I am new to PentaxForums.com I have appreciated Asahi, Pentax and Spotmatics for some time.
I have owned Pentax SLR´s and they have been safely put away in storage. I inherited a good number of Takumar lenses (see below) several years ago from an uncle who was a professional photographer in México. They too have been in storage.
After much internal debating I decided to make the switch from Nikon and to purchase a Pentax k-5 along with several Limited glass (77mm, 43mm, 15mm) and am extremely satisfied! I have also been having much fun after purchasing a Pentax K adapter to screwmount for my Takumars... I´m in heaven!
Below is a list of the Pentax equipment I know have in my possession: Cameras:
Asahi Pentax ESII, (2) Asahi Pentax Spotmatic, (2) Honeywell Pentax Spotmatic (1 black), Pentax K-5 Lenses
Pentax-FA 43mm f1.9 Limited, Pentax-FA 77mm f1.8 Limited, Pentax-DA 15mm 15mm f4 Limited, SMC Pentax-M 50mm f2, SMC Pentax-A 50mm f1.7, Vivitar 28mm f2, Asahi SMC Takumar 50mm f1.4, Asahi Fish-Eye-Takumar 17mm f4, Asahi S-M-C Takumar 24mm f3.5, S-M-C/Super Takumar 35mm f2, Asahi Super Multi Coated Macro Takumar 50mm f4, Asahi Super Multi Coated Takumar 55mm f1.8, Asahi Super Multi Coated Takumar 135mm f2.5, Asahi Super Takumar 135mm f3.5, Asahi Super-Takumar 200mm f4, Asahi Super-Takumar 300mm f4, Vivitar 28mm f2.5, Vivitar 200mm f3.5
I´m in the market to purchase a BG4 grip and an extra D-L190 battery - So if you have any you are willing to part with please pm me.
Looking forward to being a part of this forum and community!
Salud,
Jesús
