A new camera and lens. What better place to test them out, other than the Flint Hills. The old Kickapoo School in Geary County made a perfect subject. Made with the new full frame Pentax K1 with a HD Pentax-D FA 28-105mm F3.5-5.6 ED DC WR.
Camera settings ISO 200 1/250th F 10.0 Focal length 40mm.

Conditions here were much less than ideal for a great image. With that said I still wanted to play with making a horizontal panorama with the new lens. The K1 was on a tripod, I used the cameras level for horizontal and vertical alignment. F 8 or 11, ISO 400 1/500th? The first image was in the center unshifted. I then clicked left 10 clicks and 10 images. I then rotated the lens and clicked right 10 clicks and 10 images. For a total of 21 images. As I understand, each click moves the lens one millimeter. I used Microsoft Image Composite Editor to make the panorama. Not the best software for panoramas but it is free. I will need to invest in a better program. The next experiment will be with a tall building and converging lines.

Stopped by my local camera store today to pick up a 77mm Polarizer filter.
I spotted a beautiful looking K1000 that had a bargain price tag on it.
I had to take it home with me.
Both it and the K1 will be going to Iceland with me.
Based on inspiration from watching the National Geographic video about the last roll of Kodachrome film shot by Steve McCurry.
I am only taking one roll of 36 exposure black and white film.
It should be a creative challenge. Most likely a 28mm lens on the K1000.

B&H Santa brought me the D FA 150-450 this year.
Yesterday was my first chance to use it to capture the Moon.
The results were very nice.
ISO 400 F13 1/1000th.

Incredible image, I would love to try something like this with my K1 and D FA 150-450.
I have never used the Astrotracer before.
I have taken multiple night images and stacked them for star trails. So I am somewhat familiar with that part of the process.
Where and when to aim the lens would be the area that I lack the needed knowledge.
Any suggestions to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Scott.

A primary stop during this past weekend's trip to the Flint Hills of Kansas. Was in the small town of Skiddy. I wanted to see and photograph the old church and elevator. This old abandoned home and horse trailer was a nice surprise. Image made with a full frame Pentax K 1 with a Pentax D FA 28-105mm F3.5-5.6 ED DC WR lens. 1/40th hand held, F13 ISO 200 28mm.
I am really loving my K 1, it feels like back in High School when I got my K1000.

I am a big believer in LCD protectors. Before my K 1 arrived I searched around and found the options limited. I did find this one on
Ebay from a seller in China.
2 Pack Deerekin 9H Tempered Glass LCD Screen Protector for Pentax K 1 | eBay
I arrived rather quickly, about a week and a half. I am very pleased with the quality and it is a perfect fit for the rear LCD.
The package contained two for the rear LCD. Downside is there was not one included for the top LCD. I can make my own for that one.
Maybe this will help out some of the new K 1 owners.
Have a great week.

I seldom use my Pentax K2000 and have been considering making it a dedicated black and white body. I took it outside and was playing around with it. My boy Samson was keeping me company. He seemed like the perfect model to see how the K2000 did shooting in black and white mode.
