So these iPhone lenses are not so bad after all. I need to experiment a bit with this new mode of photography.
This was from the telephoto lens
This one was taken with the macro mode |

I like the color, the contrast and the subject matter. Framing and POV is fairly generic and not original. Hope you all like what you see :) Yellow by Joseph Mei, on Flickr

When you are climbing the bell tower, you can step out to the ledges/balcony that wraps around the tower (enclosed by steel wire, of course). I took the pictures while having my camera outside the steel wire enclosure. There are usually quite a number of people on the ledge/balcony, so need to be patient to get to the right spot for those shots :) ---------- Post added 03-27-15 at 06:19 PM ----------
The day I was in Paris was actually overcast and had bad lighting overall..had to pull some serious gradient filter magic in LR to make the photos look decent ...;)

Thank you all so much for your nomination. In most of my street photos, the people tend to look indifferent or are otherwise pissed or not presented in their best light. This one is a rare capture of someone who appears to truly enjoy what she is doing and is just being happy. |

It appears you have a bad AIV copy of FA31. You should test a MIJ copy. You can tell your AIV copy is bad if there is a big jump in quality from 1.8 to 2.8 (and I suspect there is). FA31 is tack sharp from f1.8, even at wide open, it's one of my sharpest lenses.

I have had 4 copies of this lens (at various times including the latest copy) and I am writing from experience not believe. I will shoot some test shots hopefully over the coming weekend. "3D pop" is more of personal opinion (the photo is 2D afterall), but "edge to edge sharpness" can be tested and proven.
I do however appreciate the advice given in this thread about how to best use FA43 (e.g., get closer, watch out for harsh lights, tendency to compress highlights, etc).

As good as my plan was, it was vetoed. So with only one lens to purchase, I ended up getting the 50/1.7. The lens is razor sharp in the center from wide open and the corners become very sharp by 4.0. I am thinking for walk around I will just use 20/3.5 and turn to hyper focus before I hand to a stranger to take a photo. I can always grt the da30 if the 20mm doesn't work out - and an argument for why I need another lens!

I think I will shoot straight JPEG for a few days, so I don't dither around with PP. Will try the 5 bracket 3 stop technique. I am already only taking out 1-2 lens at a time.
The purple/blue tint is a function of the dust/smog in the air - I think it's something to do with polarization. I don't particularly wish for it, it just looks like that after a curve is applied. I don't think my portrait/street has that look Old Man at Lantern Festival by Always Testing, on Flickr FA*24 Test Photos 3 by Always Testing, on Flickr
