I suppose you could ask the designer, but they probably don't own the lens to do it right.
You mentioned knowing someone who has done 3D modeling. If you provide the lens, they'll most likely know how to scale the model to fit it in their preferred software before printing.

People have made lens clamps that no doubt could be adapted to the 16-50. Here's an example: Printables
Do you have experience working with 3D models?

I've designed and 3D printed my own solar filter holder for the April 2024 eclipse that fits over the hood of the DA* 300mm F4 (102mm diameter). It uses sheet material like Thousand Oaks Optical SolarLite film, which I last used for the 2017 eclipse (with a homemade cardboard holder).
If you have a 3D printer (or want to use a printing service), it's downloadable for free (Creative Commons license) here: Printables
It's pretty simple, but it works. All it needs is a few M4 screws and nuts.
And if you're handy with 3D modeling software, it shouldn't be too hard to scale it up or down to fit other lenses. I'll be doing just that to make one for the DFA 150-450mm next.

Yeah, I had to write the Aussies multiple times before they wrote back. The Ricoh Japan folks wrote back almost immediately, so that was a nice surprise.

I collect lapel pins, and both Ricoh Australia and Ricoh Japan have gorgeous Pentax camera pins. Check 'em out:
Australia has the LX, K-1, and 6x7: Search: 'lapel' | Ricoh Imaging Australia
Japan has the MX, KP, Spotmatic, and GRIII: Search: 'pin badge' | RICOH IMAGING
I've emailed both companies and neither will allow for international purchases (I'm in the US). The person who replied from Ricoh Australia mentioned using a "freight forwarder," but I don't know which companies I found are trustworthy. There seem to be dozens of them, especially for people buying anime-related stuff from Japan.
Do any of you have experience with a forwarder, or any other suggestions for how to get these pins without a couple very long flights?
P.S.: Hey Ricoh Imaging USA! You're really slacking on the Fan Shop merch compared to your foreign cousins!

Pardon my lack of experience with monopods, but why do many of you recommend using alternate straps? I figured I'd have both the monopod's strap and the camera's strap around my wrist. ---------- Post added 03-01-24 at 05:55 PM ----------
I just have shaky hands, which of course is magnified with longer lenses, especially in low-light situations. This monopod will be for photographing owls when they come out at dusk. There's a nesting pair of Great Horned Owls living on my office building. Thank goodness for Shake Reduction!
That said, I can hand-hold this new lens or my old Pentax K 500mm 4.5 as long as it's sunny out or I use a high ISO. I usually do this when shooting the Blue Angels and other fast-moving objects, but it'll sure be nice to have more support for the weight.

I just got a D-FA 150-450mm (used, Ex+, from KEH) that I have already used for birding and will use for the eclipse in April. I love this lens, but I need recommendations for two accessories:
1. What's a beefy monopod that can support this lens plus K3 III and the HD 1.4x teleconverter? It's very difficult to hand-hold when birding around dusk, for example, when the owls come out.
2. Is there something I can attach to the zoom ring to give me better leverage on it? It's incredibly tight (which is consistent with some reviews I read before buying it), I just didn't expect it to be this tight. I've been searching, but I'm not sure what something like this would even be called.
Thanks!

@Adam, just wondering if there's been any further consideration of this. I'm holding off on posting about my Pentax pins and other stuff just in case. :)
Thanks!

Thanks angerdan! I was going to submit a similar list, but I think you covered it.
Discussion of this topic may not be as frequent as that of cameras or lenses, but having an on-topic section for it might encourage people to post more.

Is there any possibility of a "Pentax Merchandise & Promo Items" section being added to the site? I know it's a big ask, but here's my reasoning: - The topic is directly related to Pentax products, but doesn't fall under any of the existing topics on photographic products.
- Pentax, in its various forms and in various regions, has produced a wide variety of non-photographic merchandise and promo items. From t-shirts to cigarette lighters to books to knives. There is a lot of discussion potential.
- The General Talk section doesn't feel right, because... well, it's very general and off-topic. I don't think Pentax merch belongs with off-topic threads.
I think this hypothetical section could maybe work as a section under "Pentax Lenses and Accessories," or as a sub-section under "Pentax Camera and Field Accessories" or "Pentax Lens and Accessory Review Databases."
What do you think about this idea?

What would be the appropriate sub-forum in which to post about Pentax lapel pins? I've got a big collection of the little guys and am always looking for more, but there doesn't seem to be much discussion about these accessories here (not even in the Miscellaneous Accessories forum).
Similarly, where should one post about other Pentax swag? I've got keychains, toys, a cigarette lighter, a pocket knife, and some other things that I'd love to share and discuss.
Last but not least, I discovered recently that Ricoh Australia has some beautiful lapel pins in its store, but they don't appear to ship outside of Australia (I sent a message asking about this, but have not received a reply yet). If I wanted to find someone to buy and ship them to me in the US, would I post in the Wanted Items forum, or somewhere else?
Thanks!

What I love about my F-5XB is that it's easy. Easy to open: The velcro flap is nice and all, but the oversized zipper is the best. It opens like a breeze, even one-handed (to a degree). The zipper teeth are rounded and (I'm guessing) plastic, so there really isn't a risk of scratching equipment. It also opens wide enough that it doesn't get in the way. I've always preferred straight zippers to U-shaped ones, because straight zippers open in one motion. U-shaped zippers generally need two hands and three directions of movement. Easy to keep clean: You can just toss it in the wash with other heavier items, like jeans or blankets. The padding is minimal (which is just my preference as it keeps the bulkiness down, and I'm pretty careful with any bag, let alone camera bags) so it dries quickly. Easy to keep at hand: It can be a shoulder bag, belt bag, satchel or sling bag (sort of). I usually keep the shoulder strap extended all the way and wear it diagonally across my body, sitting on my hip or rear end. When I pull it around to my front, the bag is nearly level, making lens-changing and whatnot pretty easy.
Everyone has their bag preference, and it's totally fine if Domke bags don't appeal to you. I just wanted to explain why I love my F-5XB so much. :)

K-x through K-70 vector logos are now ready. Only the K-30 came directly from the manual PDF, the others were traced.
Models included in this set: K-r, K-x, K-30 (including stacked version that was on the camera body), K-01, K-50, K-500, K-S1, K-S2, K-70.
The next set will probably take longer than the sets I've done this week, in part because I've been on vacation, but also because the old ZX/MZ logos will probably all have to be traced, and I'm not sure where I'll find good source images.

Another logo set! This time it's the series that started with the K100D & K10D in 2006, and ended with the K2000/K-m in 2009.
All of the packaging logos come from the official manual PDFs except for the m in K-m. That one had to be traced.
The camera body logos are approximate reproductions. See the notes in the files for more info.
Edit to add models included in this set: K10D, K100D, K100D Super, K110D, K20D, K200D, K2000D, K-m
Next I'll do the K-x through K-70 so they'll be available here (even though I didn't own any of those models), unless they've been done and I'm just not seeing them in the forums. After that, I'll dive into the ZX/MZ models, which I'm pretty sure will all have to be traced. The ZX-30 was my first SLR, though, so it'll be a labor of love. :)

Thanks! Glad they're already useful.
Time for some Q-series logos! The Q and Q10 logos are straight from their respective manuals. The 7 and -S1 were traced (the S1 font appears to be a modified version of Garamond... maybe?).
Edit to add models included in this set: Q, Q10, Q7, Q-S1

Anyone have experience with Think Tank bags? I've just found their Retrospective 7 v2.0, and it seems like a good step up in size from my Domke F-5XB for when I want to carry just a couple more lenses. Thing is, I've never heard of the brand, so I'm just a bit wary of jumping in unprepared.

I've made logo sets for the Auto 110 and *ist D series and labeled them in the style of Gray/GD Wilson for consistency.
The Auto 110 logos were a bit of a frustrating mess, with a number of variations depending on the source (body, manual, packaging, and even a print ad), so I did the best I could. Consistency must not have been a major priority for their design team back then. Feel free to edit as you see fit.
The *ist D logos in the left column were taken straight out of Pentax's PDF manuals. The center and right columns are recreations of the camera shoulder logos.
Both images link to zip files in my Dropbox. Please let me know if you have any issues opening the files. They were made in Illustrator 2021, so I'm not too sure how well other programs might handle them, considering what a pain Adobe can be sometimes.
Edit to add models included in these sets: *ist D, *ist DS, *ist DS2, *ist DL, *ist DL2, Auto 100, Auto 100 Super

Oh I'm well aware of that. The nearest camera store to me (a Mike's Camera location) had maybe five or six bags the last time I went in. The only other decent source for bags was Fry's Electronics, but they're closed now.
And yeah, I can look at photos online all day long, but it's really hard to compare that way since they're all shot in different contexts and with different objects inside (if any). It just gets confusing.
Maybe we could start a letter-writing campaign to convince the manufacturers to put rulers in all their product photos...

Thank you so much for making and sharing these. I'll be putting them to good use here shortly. :)
There are some cameras that aren't represented in these collections, so I'm wondering if you have plans for those, or if it'd be okay to make and contribute some myself? I'm thinking specifically of the Auto 110/110 Super, *ist (film and digital versions), and Q series. I'm pretty handy with Illustrator and would be happy to do these, but I don't want to step on your toes.

Anyone know of a good resource for comparing bags, aside from going into a camera store (which are few and far between these days, anyway)?
I love my Domke F-5XB, but I'd really like a similar bag that is just a tad longer, enough to hold one more lens or a large flash. I've been trying to compare Domke models, but their site is slow and doesn't lend itself to comparing items very easily.

What's your go-to camera bag?
My favorite is my old and beat-up Domke F-5XB. I have other bags that are smaller or larger, but the F-5 is just the right size for my camera and one or two lenses... or my Q-7 and the entire line of Q-mount lenses.

A new version of the Z1 was announced and made available for pre-order earlier this week:
Theta Z1 51GB: https://us.ricoh-imaging.com/product/theta-z1-51gb/
The primary difference appears to be the internal memory capacity. The rest of the hardware is the same. Comparing specs side-by-side, there are some small differences in shooting modes, but that's all I'm noticing.
I'm a little surprised no one has posted this yet. Then again, it's a pretty minor update.
