I'm thinking of getting a K-70 previously coming from a K5. One thing that bothers me about the K-70 is that on top of the camera where the K-5 had an ISO button, the K-70 has a green button and FX2 button.
So I figure oh, okay, no harm, surely I could reprogram either of those buttons to serve as an ISO button, right? But according to the in depth review of the menu system, it does not appear so. FX2 can be bound to functions like electronic level, bracketing, etc. but not the basic function of ISO. Not sure if the green button is programmable at all.
So then my questions are: can you reprogram one of the top buttons to function the way the ISO button works on K-5/K-3? If not, how exactly does the K-70 ISO function work? Do you hold the thumb button/up direction arrow in the back marked ISO and then turn the front dial to set it, or does that just bring up a menu from which you then set the ISO?
And as a bonus question - to anyone who owned a K-5, does the K-70 feel as good in your hand in general? I really liked the size and build and heft of the K-5 so I'm hoping the design is relatively similar.

One last question - would the lens serial number be in the box packaging the lens came with? I could have someone dig them out of a closet somewhere, but I'd rather save the hassle if they're not there, obviously.

Thanks a lot. It lists my serial as being 4301xxx (replacing last 3 numbers with x just in case it somehow matters) - is that the serial number that would be on the camera body? Does that look like a valid/normal K-5 serial?

Had my K-5 stolen. At some point I wrote down the serial number but I can't find it. It makes it a lot easier to potentially recover from pawn shops if you have the serial number.
I may have the original packaging in a closet somewhere across the country. I can ask someone else to dig it up, but would the serial number be on any of the documents or boxes that came with the camera?
Is it embedded in any way in the image files as metadata?
Where on the camera is the serial number physically located? Maybe I have a pic I took with another camera that happens to have the serial number in view.
Any other ideas?

Edit: I sent the unit into CRIS for service a couple of years ago. I would've had to have documented the serial number then. But I've since reinstalled windows and don't have the old e-mails. I guess I can e-mail them and see if they can help me.

It's been this price on amazon for a while. A couple of times it dropped down to $100-110, I've been hoping to grab it at that price before I snatch it up.

I think I read once that this lens projects a full frame image. Is that right?

Intervalometer is a great call, thanks. That way I can take 3 or 4 shots too without going back to the camera in case I'm blinking or whatever.

I want to take some self portraits with the K5. I drag along a light tripod with me when I go to cool places, but I'm having trouble getting good shots of myself. I'm using the 12 second tmer but it seems like it only does autofocus from the moment you click the shutter rather than when it actually takes the picture, so unless I manual focus and dial in my exact distance to the camera (which can be tricky), it's hard to get the camera to focus on me when I walk out in front of it. Is there some setting you can alter that will make the camera do the autofocus right before it snaps the actual picture rather than when the shutter is pressed?

To be fair, Casey's didn't sell Pentax either, I checked before I bought my K5 online. My experience with B&C was actually fairly good, other than the fact that they had no interest in Pentax (and in fact the salesman tried to steer me away from them, but understandably since he couldn't sell it to me), but otherwise they seemed fairly competent to me. But yeah, it's too bad there are no Pentax-friendly retailers in Vegas. I like to support local businesses when I can.

Think about how an SLR camera works. With in-lens stabilization, there's an actual moving piece of glass inside the lens that compensates for movement. Because the light path goes from the lens, to the mirror, up to the viewfinder, it affects what you see in the viewfinder.
However, in-body stabilization has the sensor move to counteract camera shake. While you're looking through the viewfinder, all the light is going there - none is hitting the sensor. You're not looking through the sensor. Therefore you don't see any change in the viewfinder.
If you were to use live view (in which the sensor is seeing the light and displaying it on the LCD), you'd see the effects of the stabilization.
Just wait for the little hand to appear, once that's lit then the sensor is stabilized.

Couple more. I actually ended up taking a ridiculous amount of pictures (7 FPS + 32gb SD cards makes me snapsnapsnap away) but most of them end up looking pretty similar.

Other than the wings, they're ugly weird looking little creatures. But I found some flowers that attracted a lot of them and snapped quite a few pictures. What do you think?
The first one is the best, I think - the angle underneath, light flowing through the wings. The bokeh is too busy though.

Wasn't sure if I should list this as macro or nature. It's almost macro style, but the 55-300 isn't anywhere near a true macro shot. Very little PP done with this shot - some levels adjustment, a little saturation and contrast - it just came out of the camera looking great. I like the colors and contrast the 55-300 delivers.

FWIW, I don't know if they actually did anything to my camera at CRIS, but I haven't had a lockup in over 3000 shots including lots of action shots. I also switched to a Sandisk Extreme memory card, not sure if that's a factor.

Bringing back to my original question - I get that the cheap knockoffs are cheap knockoffs. But I would remove mine (and re-seal the grip port) in the event of bad weather, and I'm willing to put up with finish wear and all that.
My main concern... is there any way the electrical/battery system from the grip could somehow damage my camera?
And as a poster upthread said, are there basically just the 2 types of grips and all grips within those types are pretty much the same?

I don't really feel the need to have a $200 camera grip really. I'd like a grip occasionally and I'm ok with the controls beind second rate. I'd rather spend $200 on a lens or a GPS well before I spent it on the grip.

I know, the standard recommendation is probably going to be just buy the Pentax grip. But I just don't have $200 to spend on a grip - if I was gonna spend that on an accessory it'd go to the GPS first.
There are multiple $40-70 third party grips that appear to be copies of the genuine Pentax grip. My question is - which one is the best?
Other questions. I know the cheap copies don't have the weather sealing. That's fine, I can just take them off the camera in inclement weather - but in the event that I didn't, only the grips themselves could become damaged, right? That is - there's no way having that grip on there is going to end up causing damage to the K5 itself somehow, right?
Second question is - the only concern I'd really have with these third party units is the fact that they send power to the camera via an extra battery. If they have shoddy voltage regulaton software or other types of electrical work, could they potentially damage the K5?
Amazon has a "NEEWER" grip for $40 and I'd like to get one from them rather than China if I could. Is that a good unit?

FWIW, I got my camera back from CRIS and this was on the work order:
CHECKED FOR LOCKUP. MEMORY BUFFERING
But no associated fixes, so I guess they didn't find anything. I don't know if this means that they know what the issue is and it was related to buffering, or if they're just writing it out like that because of how I described it.

I don't know if TAv is a compounding factor, or if most people just do their action shots in TAv so it makes sense that most of the time AF.C and TAv are used together.

I'm sending my camera into CRIS for horizon calibraton but I left a note about the freezes to ask if there's anything they could check out. I'll post again if they can figure out what it is. Or maybe they'll just say it happens.

Last night there was a rather strange storm - it was almost 90 degrees in Las Vegas when suddenly freezing rain and marble sized hail stones started falling. I wanted to go out and record some video of this odd event, but the only weather sealed lens I have is my 18-55WR, which turned out to be too slow to get bright enough video. I thought about switching to my Pentax-M 50 1.7, but with no weather sealing, I was afraid.
I wonder - those lenses are built realy well - does the tightness of their construction give them some protection, or will they become flooded and damaged during rain?
Is there also a risk that water would get in the camera near the sensor, since the camera itself doesn't have any sort of seal near the mount, but instead relies on the weather resistance of the lens?

I need at least 3 rear caps, and if I buy them at places like Amazon they're like $10 each. Is there a site that will deal cheaply with these sorts of accessories? Would also be nice if the site had front caps in various sizes, hoods, etc.
Is my best bet just to order a bunch individually off ebay?
