Hello all. This is the first time I've posted a picture on this forum. I've been using Pentax equipment since my first SLR in 1969. I figured now would be a good time to show some of my work because I have finally finished 2 months of freezing my butt off while refining my technique of photographing the "birefringence" of thin layers of ordinary water ice - out in my cold garage - at night. :)
I discovered that thin ice was incredibly birefringent after first checking to see if the ice crystals in frozen bubbles was. The crystals in the wall of the solid bubbles turned out to be too thin. The ice in a snowflake is also too thin, I discovered. So I made a puddle of ice on glass and checked it out. Man, was I amazed at what I saw!
After making a small change in my snowflake photographing rig I started taking macro shots of this beautiful phenomenon. I occasionally used focus stacking to increase the depth of field given that I was using f 8 for acceptable diffraction.
Attached are a few of the images. If you would like to see a lot more feel free to visit my new blog. In the blog I provide a lot of information about the procedure - even how to grab good shots using a cell phone camera and the two filters taken from a pair of Real 3D glasses.

These Neelgai (antelope) females were startled to see me as they emerged from behind two trees. I was sitting on the swamp edge at Okhla Bird Sanctuary in New Delhi, India shooting birds.
"What are you doing here?" they seemed to have said. |

The K3 appears to perform well in low temperatures. These were taken last night over a period of an hour and a half at -25C.

Are you stopping down? f/13 works well for me and I don't imagine the coating makes that much difference.
That being said if you want to trade me your shiny new one for my well-used old one, send me a PM! :D IMGP1462-Edit by MattB.net, on Flickr

Cropped from landscape 6012x4008 to portrait 2520x3151, than resized.
Usually details of night herons are smudged due to very subtle colors of whites, light grey, and dark blue. Not anymore! K-3 shines here. |

I left Sedona headed up the 89A to photograph the fall colors in Oak Creek Canyon. Pulling into the bridge turnout to photograph into the canyon really didn't produce much color and then I realized my photograph was right in front of me. The bridge that we had crossed over so many years on our visits to the area but I had never taken a photo from this location. Taking a look at it brought back memories of the Erector Sets I played with when I was a kid so b/w was my choice for the 1939 Midgley Bridge and what it may have looked like right after construction was completed.
