No, it's not. A7 lenses are noticeably bigger and heavier. Zeiss 50mm f1.4 is GIANT and 770g versus Pentax FA 50mm f1.4 at 220g in a compact body. Pentax K1 wins.

You can try Adobe Lightroom. I rarely encounter EXIF problems there. Free trial is available from Adobe site, so if it won't suit you, just uninstall.

Battery Grip Pentax K30

Voltage output is what matters. And battery physical size if you want to fit inside. You can actually connect 7.4V power supply to battery port and use unlimited power from your socket while working in studio.

I started to under expose too! Over exposured areas rarely contain anything useful. And you rarely get clipping in dark areas.

Which SD card to use for hi-speed burst shooting with K-30?

Buying a faster card always makes sense, imho. If your current camera can't use all the speed, then your computer can. And your next camera will. I personally hate waiting for copying process from card to pc to finish.

I had big expectations for this lens. But sample images from it versus my 50mm F1.4... No way I'm spending my money on this zoom!

pentax K30 Image settings?

Monitors are calibrated into RGB colour spaces like sRGB and Adobe RGB. Meaning if you have several monitors calibrated to the same profile, then images on all of them will look absolutely indentical.

If we talk about printing, then the problem is that printing happens in CMYK world and the only way to get proper colour preview on your (calibrated) monitor is to use CMYK colour space WITH colour profile FROM printer. If you check colour profiles in Photoshop, you will see lots of them, but Photoshop is distributed with generalized profiles and anyone wanting to get proper preview should get real profile from printing device. And printer must be calibrated too.

To summarize: calibrate monitor, calibrate printer, load printer profile into Photoshop, work in CMYK with printer profile. One step missing? Wrong colours!

Stop Down metering on K-30

Khm, I read about green button and metering with manual lenses a lot and don't understand what you all are talking about. I just went to settings, turned apperture one and shoot in Av mode without any problems and without pressing anything but shutter button. Do you guys talk about manual lenses with autoaperture control? Because I have only full manuals and control apperture directly on the lens.

My favourite lens is 50mm 1.4. But I rarely shoot at apertures wider than 2.8 because DOF is ridiculously small, especially at 1.4. My other two favourite lenses are Jupiter 21m and 11a which are only f4. But they are awesome right from f4!

Water resistant my ass

My father with his K30 took about twenty photos in such a heavy rain that water bounced about 50cm back off the ground. The camera is fine (with WR lens). I made some shots with my K30 while swimming in Baltic sea - again no problems. If someone gets water inside - ask for a warranty exchange. It is clearly a defect.

Cheaper slave flash to pair with Pentax 360?
Posted By Aux

Hello, I have a PENTAX AF 360FGZ which works just fine. Now I have an urgent need to buy second flash to pair with the current one, but I kind of lack money for the moment. What are my other options for a second light source with 100% stable remote functionality except for another Pentax 360? I've read that Metz 52 sometimes can't fire remotely and I can't find any info on pairing 3rd party flashes with Pentax 360.

Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

P.S. I'm using Pentax K-30.

K-30 - Entry level?
Posted By Aux

Personally, I don't think any DSLR should be put in entry/pro levels. Different sets of features are suited for different photography types. K30 is more about photography without time limits for changing settings ( less buttons and controls). Shooting still life and slow events with constant lighting, for example. K5 is for more dynamic workflow, but it will feel overbloated in K30 scenarios. It's like the difference between Canon 1D ( lower resolution, less features, but ultra-fast shooting for very fast events like sports) and 5D (a lot slower, but has way more features for studio work and HQ imaging). Shooting products in the studio by 1D is not a smart move.

So, my opinion on K30 is that it is best suited for slow work in persistent conditions when there is no need for extra large resolution and full frame sensor: product shooting in studio, still life, panoramas, etc. It is also a good work horse for studying photography, since it has less novice disturbing features. And last but not least - it is very light and WR, so it is a great camera to have with you most of the time. Not as compact as mirrorless cameras, yet not as heavy as big brothers.

K-30: End of firmware updates?
Posted By Aux
Replies: 30

This question is more like about Android devices :) Pentax was always providing firmware updates when needed. The thing is that you buy camera once, then you buy LENSES from Pentax. So good support for cameras is vital - it will make more lens sales. And since lenses today cost A LOT it is pretty obvious that Pentax will not drop support for cameras. And there is evidence as monochrome and others said.

DSLR market is different. It's more like printer market when manufacturers care less about devices and more about peripherals for them.
