+1 focus fine tuning needed

Check ur focus everyday and adjust if needed. When light change then focus maybe change also...maybe not, but can not trust that really.

Extension tube PK mount

Number 2 is ur best option if u have lens with aperture ring to use with it. Any PK macro tube will do, no need to be pentax brand. But look that tubes have that lever so u can focus manually wide open if needed, if not have lever then aperture stops always value that selected in ring.

Somebody should make new af macro tubes for pentax...i want one also.

Which photo is which lens at 135mm?

Contrast is best in last pic, thats why last one is easy to say. First 2 is more difficult but i would have say other way around cos pic1 looks little better to me, pic2 more burned white. Ur test prooves that 55-300 is not good at 135mm, my copy has worst IQ at 135mm.

How Far Is Pentax From Becoming A Major Player In APS-C?

Its difficult to buy Pentax DSRL if there is only few places to sell them. Mostly here is Canon and Nikon sold in market. Pentax DSRLs are made in Cebu city philippines. I have spend a lot of time there, but i know only one place there where to buy Pentax DSRL. And I have not seen another Pentax there, not even one, but so many Canons. U must have Canon cos its best camera there in Cebu...same here best is Canon or Nikon cos pros uše them, other brands are not so good.

I would say pentax make very good cameras, but nobody is selling them to people. Thats major problem if want to become major player

Honestly I just did realize that there will be no Pentax FF DSRL. This is business and FF is not going to make much profit for Ricoh. They just not want to say no strait cos its not good to do business in that way. There is no Pentax FF digital and newer will be. That has been plan in Pentax for many years now. As result there is no FF zoom lenses in production.

Ok we all know this allready. But there is something new happened that we must notice. FF has been like maybeif promised to come for long time now but still nothing. Instead this forum has started to marketing other brand FF dsrl cameras for pentax users to use with their current FF pentax lenses. This all can read between the lines. No Pentax FF DSRL is coming sorry.

Lens Protection Filters

tiny small lens hood not protect enough.

Also cleaning is more easy and safe for lens if use use filter as protection. Just clean filter when its dirty, can even take dirty filter off and wash with mild dishwashing soup and water.

Lens Protection Filters

I have always (20 years) used uv or protection filter in all my lenses. Few years ago i did take of filters from most used lenses for less than year or so. All i did get was many permanent marks in front glasses, some of those marks will reduce IQ. I regret i did try without protection filters.

If i would be pro i would not care too much, i would by new lens to replace bad one...but i am not so i can not afford to spoil my lenses. I am still using lenses i did buy 20 years ago, they are in mint condition.

I just say this. All Sony cameras that I have been tryed felt like a plastic toy compared to K5. I would not trust any Sony camera to last with me long time. Also menus and all userinterface was not for me. Specs are good always for sure in Sonys but if I would change from Pentax very clear choise would be Nikon brand, next Canon. Sony I will left to Technical freaks.

Long Exposure tip

I did writethat my k5 not need viewfinder cap, i was wrong. When taking long exposures like 2 minutes and sun or street light is shining straight to viewfinder then light from viewfinder will ruin photo if not use cover. I did try lens rear cap, most cases works okay but sometimes sidelight will reflect inside viewfinder and ruins photo. So Now i use original pentax viewfinder cover cos its 100% safe light protection.

Settings?

Raw only. Sometimes i set wb to make postprosessing more faster and easy. also color mode default bright? or natural\neutral. i use af single mode with all 3 points settings, also much manual af. exposure method is always that big area, vary rare middle point or center mode. M, Av, Tv modes in this order. Sometimes adjusting af correction if needed. Flash exposure correction and exposure correction i adjust all time after checking exposure diagram. also depending if i use classes or not must adjust viewfinder. Iso is always manually set. I think thats about it. I like to keep things simple when taking photos. But i have already set all other adjustmets in my k5 as i like and i not need to tough those anymore. have i already told how much i like taking photos with K5, its so simple to use even have so many settings :)

i use irremote with 3sec delay much. When press remotecontrol button mirror is locked up and after 3sec shitter is opened automatically. in bulb mode shutter is open as long as i press remotecontrol button again. no cable causing camerashake with irremote. highly recomended to get cheap one button pentax ir remote. i not use my cable remote anymore, no need to openclose rubberdoor in body anymore, i cound not do that when using L-plate anyway...

Lens was tested in camera magazine, there was problems with some little size bodies that adjustment knobs can not be used easyly cos part of camera was on the way. They did test with few nikon cropsensor bodies only. Hope not have this problem with pentax bodies. How is lens usage with ur cameras, knobs locations are ok?

Cos i experience this same problem with all different setups i assume its camera related problem. Yesterday i did change location of my lightstand once and adjusting directions carefully few mins and again i had no flash signal, so this time using radiotriggers.

Asp1880: i will try to off powersave feature in my camera maybe it have something to do with this. If not help i will go local pentax maintenance cos this problem drives me nuts...

K5 hot shoe have sleep timer?

My k5 is now almoust 2 years old. From new it have had strange behaviour with hot shoe. Sometimes hot shoe works nicely but sometimes its dead. Need to take flash off, put back again, offon power flash and camera and suddenly itworks again. So suddenly signal just disappear from hot shoe and as result no flash...This really makes me mad. But Pc-sync works fine. Now i did finally notice that problem exist mostly when camera and flash/trigger are on and not take photo about few minutes then no flashsignal from hot shoe anymore.

Anobody else notice this timer sleep off function in k5?

Lens Focus Calibration - Lens Align vs SpyderdeLensCal vs Focus Pyramid vs Free Stuff

I did buy focus pyramid cos it was cheap on ebay. Actually its enough good for me. Biggest minus is that place to focus is not strait. If check where center af point the most lowest part is and use that part to focus then can make accirate enough calibration. I did check my k5 and center af sensor in my camera ends right after bottom of red square in viewfinder when af is center point af mode. I just focus using that bottom line so i put that samelevel with focus pyramid focus line. If i would not do like this then calibration error in 50mm lens would be about 8mm front focus. This is biggest problem with focus pyramid. U must know excactly where af sensor ends. Butit can be easily checked so i can recomend this product also if on very tight budget like me. Its better than no calibration tool at all, but not much. If use book with very little txt and focus on that and then compare with k5 32x zooming in camera jpg biggest and best quality files can get same results. Like shoot -10, -7, -4,-1,2,5,8,10. Then select sharpest. Then compare neigbours like if -4 sharpest and -7 second sharpest then u shoot -5 and u select sharpest from -4 or -5. Use tripod and 2sec delay after prsessing fire button. Before every pic focus manually to infinity. One more thing put book about 25x focal lenght from camera. Simple as that, commercial tools not necassary needed at all. I did do like this using book only before and results i get with focus pyramid are same :)

For u and ur lenses ff wouldbe better yes, its clear. I use so muchtamron 17-50 and i not want to replace it. Its almoust like fixed iq, very near andi like zooming than changing lens all time. If i would moustly use fixed focal lenses i think i would like more ff pentax. But honestly, no money for ff andnew lensesnow...
