K-R remote

I ordered a generic remote off eBay and after 4 weeks of waiting I found that they had sent me a remote for Canon! So I drove to supermarket and bought a small universal TV remote for EUR2.89. Actually I bought 2, one of which I will hack to make a "wired" remote.

After remote's autotune found the right code, it works great, CH+ autofocuses and CH- fires the shutter.

So my point is that if you happen to get a dud then help may be only 5 mins drive away:)

As the discussion seems to be veering more towards using IR remote I thought I'd share an idea that I've come up with in regards to impractical placement of IR receiver on the camera.
When my IR remote will finally arrive I will attempt to make an omnidirectional IR receiver reflector from a piece of clear lexan rod and some tin foil. The rod would have a cone shaped concave on top that's lined with tin foil to reflect the IR signal down through the lexan rod and then via 45 degree mirror at the bottom into the IR receiver. Hopefully that would give me 360 degree angle reception for IR.

Couple of weeks ago I bought my first DSLR, the K-r and so far I'm extremely happy with it.

Naturally I considered also Canon and Nikon but what dipped the scale for me was Pentax's in-camera shake reduction system, IQ in low light and of course the price tag. Backwards compatibility with older lenses was a bonus.

So right off the bat I ordered an M42 adapter, AA battery adapter, and an IR remote (which is yet to arrive). Right now I have a bid on M42 macro extension bellows so fingers crossed!:) I think photos from my old Zenit's Helios 44M look awesome, too bad that the adapter's thread is exactly 180 degrees off and lens is on upside down.
