I know its different, but i had never seen one that didnt take a hot shoe and this one doesnt show it hooked tot he camera. It's too bad the other one eats batteries as i prefer it from previous use on other brands. You havent experienced any wear on the cable leaving it just hanging?

Just verifying with the community as the internet was inconclusive.
After hundreds of threads, shops, and articles it seemed this was what you have to buy: WX2001 Camera Wireless Shutter Release for PENTAX K7 K5 K10D K20D K100D K200D | eBay
Then suddenly! I found this: Photon Remote Control Pentax KR KX KM K7 K5 K20D K200D | eBay
Does anyone use a remote like in the second example. I dont care that its cheap and Chinese, I have one for my D80 for years I bought for .97 on ebay and it was solid. I just want to make sure that the K5 can accept one and has the capability for sure because those other remotes make it seeem like the camera needs the functionality surrgoated via a big box in the hot shoe. I've bought the camera, but they are back ordered on Adorama so I cant just check the manual or the camera itself.

Well, I do actually know its the photographer not the camera, and thats not you were implying but...other people have made comment about it and rightfully so, it seems odd. as much as this very thread makes that seem otherwise, and I shot in manual on both the 70s and 80 I owned... My concern was more like... paranoid I would be buying a trick. it sounds nutty i know, but its happened to me before. Let myself be convinced on something that was literally a shoddy built disaster of a product (not a camera though) and just lamented the decision and device forever after, also once bought a product and a month later the company goes under and I'm left with nothing for support or expansion. Now it seems contrary to post here and expect bad responses, but it isnt, because if such a person (unhappy) existed and there was any hope they were not just foaming at the mouth but constructive and reasonable, a forum like this is where i would find them. If I ask anywhere else i either am guaranteed a forum war over say sony vs pentax or I am guaranteed angry people who cant be human about a problem or error. If I bought the Sony, as an example, and I hated it and it was crap, I'm still stuck with it, I'm going to find a forum and discuss it find out if theres a fix, can it be worked around? Actually, I posted a very similar thread on a Sony board and while people like there sonys I gut a very telling overall feeling that the transparent mirror and electronic viewfinder was not cool and not well received. People were trying to convince me to buy used models before thses changes were made. They werent very happy with what Sony had done to Minolta and was doing and alot of them while saying they loved the camera seemed to kind of have a melancholy attitude about ti too. Gloomy Doomy. now look at the difference on this board. I got exactly what i was looking for, now if I can manage to find everything I want in one place at the best price but also decent support before it all goes away at midnight, or thats what I'm told, we'll be good!

It would seem the above image speaks to a contradiction, but my final concern is this which i keep hearing and this in particular is from Adorama : Not for action shots

I expected exactly this. I figured if I asked this question here, I would get the answers i could not seem to find on my own and a reassuring tone. I've spent days researching and reading forums and have gotten better and more pinpointed advice in this thread than all of that combined!
no i think i'm picking up the special on the K5 with the 18-55 on BH, which i could find it with that 55-200 but oh well! Good as place to start as any.

Have pity on me photography friends! I shot D70 and D80 for years, finally acquired a better job sold the old rig, and now I find myself so neurotic over this descision! It has made me the proverbial "pixel peeper", finding myself freezing on add to cart buttons. I was set on the K-7 ages ago, finally got the money, a big purchase for me, wanting to be set up on a systema nd I find myself second guessing between this and Sony. Worried about Pentax's market share and sell off to Ricoh and what it means for continued support, mounts, and company longevity. i suppose I can just sell off later, but... maybe there are some friendly words of advise that can help sooth mind or I have not considered?
