The Live View is accessed the same way the digital preview is on the K10D. You turn the on/off switch all the way and it starts. You can only AF with the button on the back. Once AF then you simply press the shutter. What I don't like is you have to twist the on/off switch to bring it up again after each picture taken.

Well I got to Las Vegas this afternoon. I went over to my hotel, dropped off my stuff, and went over to the convention center to catch the last hour and a half of today. When I got there, I went straight for the Pentax booth. Julie Quarry was giving a presentation. I went straight for the K20D and K200D which were on monopods that were strapped down. I threw my extra SD card into the K20D with the DA* 200mm attached. When I pressed down on the shutter....wait for it.... the AF was fast, way faster than the K10D. When they said they tweaked the AF they weren't kidding. And there was not double check. It was almost instantaneous lock. To give you an idea of how fast the AF was, I have played around with the E3 and the A700. This was faster than the A700 and almost as fast as the E3. I was, to be completely honest, dumbfounded. I only took a couple of shots with the K20D one with the K200D. Tomorrow, I am going to take lots of pictures. I also went over to the Samsung booth. They were being quite risqué. They had some, what appeared to be Las Vegas show girls. So of course I shot a few pics of them. Then I tried out the GX20. The guy at the booth showed me the live view. I have to admit, I wasn't really impressed, but to each their own. It works well, I just like the brightness of the Pentax Pentaprism viewfinder. Anyways, Samsung will be releasing a new accessory that might take Pentax users away. The new GX20 grip is WiFi enabled. One of the other Samsung guys was walking around taking pics and when he shot them, they popped up on a Samsung LCD in the booth. I am really impressed with this feature. I will upload my pictures. If you have any questions for me to ask the Pentax reps, let me know. Aren't you jealous:cool: that I am at PMA and you're not, lol.

Well if Ben says it so, it must be so...as far as their being a new body. Whether or not Pentax will release it in a timely manner is a whole other matter.;) *cough* 60-250mm *cough*

I think so many around here would agree with that. I would definitely wait for a pro model if it costs under $3000. In fact I will ask next week at PMA if they will be releasing another body this year. I doubt they will tell me anything, but it never hurts to ask.

This does it for me for this camera. Having not just the ability to shoot ISO 6400 shots, but usable ISO 6400 shots is huge. If and when Nikon D300 users see this image or ones like it, they will cr*p themselves. This is far and beyond the image quality of the D300 even at ISO3200. I just reread the K10D review on DPReview and it put the AF system in the positive and said it was good. Now is it Can*n EOS **D quality, no. But with this new low light capability and the SAFOX VIII AF system I will not have any problem going and shooting basketball. The true test will be Hockey and to be honest that may be a strictly 1D realm, but other than Hockey I think this camera will be able to do sports. If the WB is improved as much as the ISO performance this camera will kick a$$ at concerts. Besides ISO noise there is no way that the K10D inhibits my photo taking ability. Have I missed shots because the AF didn't lock, yes. But if this new camera is capable of disabling the double check then I think it will be much better. And if the new Tamron 70-200mm is as good as one can hope I say screw the 60-250:eek:. Me and this new camera are going to take some beautiful pictures.

I don't think these specs are completely correct, but the leak for the K10D I believe came out of Russia. I really hope that the K20D does not have the same AF system. It would be a real detriment to this camera if it did. FPS doesn't really matter, but improving the AF is something Pentax should have put on the top of their priority list, way above live view.

How is this camera going to be for shooting hockey??? If a camera can shoot hockey well, I say it can used to photograph pretty much anything.

The DIGIC III processor does strictly 14 Bit images in Raw and there seems to be little doubt that the 40D will do 6.5 FPS in RAW

My guess is this camera does 3 FPS in 14 Bit and upwards of 5 FPS in 12 Bit.

Just because she may be misinformed on one subject, doesn't mean that she isn't well informed on another. You have no way of disproving what she is saying. Ben is sort of a kook, but I still believe he has an inside with Pentax. Wendy has said nothing to make me or anyone for that matter think she is not a beta tester. Can I say that she is or is not telling the truth? No. But I am not one to call a person a liar without knowing for sure that I have reason to.

I am scanning through all of these threads and don't really care to look any of them because they have nothing but bickering, so I decided to start a new one. I am interested in what people are looking forward to as far as non-internal features on the cameras, i.e. ISO, AF, and Sensor. Rather I want to talk about what external features I hope to see out of the K20D and GX-20. Obviously everything is already decided and none of this makes any difference, but pointless conjecture is a lot better than pointless bickering. Anyways, the first is a flip-out LCD on the GX-20, with Live View, and a K20D with a regular 3" high res screen. The reason I would like to see this is that I have used an E-3 and was very impressed. If the GX-20 were to have a flip-out screen. I would probably have to get both cameras.
Secondly, I hope that the K20D comes with new kit lenses. Hopefully the DA 17-70 and DA 50-300. These are suppose the be equivalent to the quality of the DA 16-45. If this new camera is suppose to compete against the upper end pro-sumer it should not have entry level kit lenses. I think it would show great foresight on the part of Pentax to release these two as the new kit lenses to the K20D.
Thirdly, I think we would all like to see an ISO button. I think this is almost been verified, but with these new GX-20 pictures we will have to wait and see. Additionally a white balance, button would also be nice.
I think most studio shooters would like to see a PC sync and it looks like those wishes will be answered.
It is rumored also that the new K20D battery grip with have new features. I look forward to such revelations. I would atleast like to see a spot for a second SD card. If they figure out how to get more FPS with the battery grip that'd be nice, but by no means necessary. GPS can not be needed by anyone and I don't expect Pentax to have it.
Primarily I want the new 60-250mm F/4. So Pentax, PLEASE forget the new bodies just release that new lens. Then I will be happy. I would hate to have to give in and get the Sigma 100-300 F/4.
So lets not make a battle out of this. But rather to look forward to the fact that the "supposed announcement" is 11 days away and PMA is only 18 Days away where I will be at looking at the "supposed new cameras."

I was watching a photojournalism conference put on by AP and they discussed the idea of digital video quality becoming so good that it becoming possible to cut photos out of and use the from video. It was generally dismissed because video and still frame photographers use different approaches to how they shoot. However, there may be a day when a majority of the work will be done on the computer than out taking the photograph because of the ability to capture 100% of the information.

You got me convinced. Even if none of this holds true, I am glad to be a Pentaxian. When I first started getting into photography about a year and half ago I started with an FZ50 because I didn't think I could handle a DSLR. I spent the next 6 months deciding between Nikon, Sony, and Pentax. I decided on Pentax for two reasons. The first is innovation. They are unafraid to reinvent the wheel and see where others have gone wrong. Secondly, keeping the consumer in mind. Pentax realizes that they don't make cameras for the soccer mom or the sports photo pro, they make cameras for the die hard amateur/semi-pro. That person who yearns to be out in the freezing cold or blazing sun to see how they can bend light to their will. I like vision, its rare in the electronics arena. Thats why Steve Jobs is a genius among giants. If Pentax has a revolutionary vision, I am willing to give it a go.

A person could do that or....Go to PMA at the end of the month as I am planning on doing and have a much better chance of seeing the new camera line up. I can't imagine that Pentax would go through all the trouble of having a news conference in Dubai if they were going to spill the beans 3 days before.;) I would not be surprised though if they do have some of the new lenses on display including the DA* 200, DA* 300, and DA* 60-250.:) Those would be nice to see.
