Sounds like a great idea. (Borrow one, that is.) The one other Pentaxian in the area that I thought was a lens fiend doesn't have it, lol. Looks like I'll dive in. Everybody's input here has been awesome.
Think I'm gonna go for it. (And think of some kind of concession to make for my wife and her Nikon D3100. She's new to photography, can't seem to show her the way...she says my k-5 is way too heavy.) Thanks guys!!!

Hello fellow Pentaxians,
Need some help in a buying decision. I'm a semi-pro, have shot over 30 years
and owned nearly every brand in existence. Currently shoot weddings and portraiture
For pay, and nature and landscape as a hobby. My current lens lineup: FA 43, da* 50-135,
DA 17-70. I love the 43, but isn't quite as wide as I'd like. Also, wife says my addiction
isn't ok, and I can't have the 31 and 43 both. I've owned both the da*55 and fa50. Also owned a Da*16-50,
fine lens, but a bit soft...can have SDM problems (mine did) and not quite fast enough. Loved the 55--again too
narrow fov. I guess my question is...is the FA31 worth it? As compared to a sigma 30 1.4 or ????
I've read so many good things about it, but I'll have to give up the 43, and its sooo expensive.

Noticed an ad on the forum for this Camera shop. They don't carry any Pentax products, and have a tendency topush people away from Pentax products. I don't think it appropriate for them to be on the website. To do so would be supporting a company that doesn't support Pentax! And they are quite expensive (even more than typical brick and mortar.).

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
K 50mm f1.2, KA 50mm f2, K 100mm macro f4 Asking Price
$1.00 USD Item Location
Indiana (United States) Item Description
Looking to trade all of these lenses for a nice KA 50mm 1.4. Condition of my lenses: KA 50 f2--excellent. Not quite "like new" but close. K 50 f1.2--fair. Front objective and rear both no scratches and no pitting. Aperture blades snappy and work perfectly. Quite a bit of internal dust. Second lens from outer front objective has fungus about .5 mm coming in from outer edges. K 100mm macro f4--good. Front objective has some light scratches, but nothing major. Rear lens in great shape. Just had this lens rebuilt and cleaned inside and out. Aperture blades, perfect. Absolutely no internal dust or fungus. Built-in hood is in nice shape. I'm looking to trade these lenses for one nice KA 50 1.4. The 100 is probably the best part of the group. The 50 f2 would make a nice low light backup. The 1.2 isn't good for much besides wide open shots where soft doesn't really matter (or parts). I'll post some photos soon. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

Really need your 540, and will work on liquidating some gear to get it. I'm already in a domestic conflict of my own (going to have to return my k-5), so I feel your pain brother. Know anyone with a k-7?

Thanks for all the advice! Still a little confused as to which supplier could give me the best product, though. After some research, it looks like it'll be a snap to do...so not really an issue there. Thoughts?

Lowell, thanks for the info. What you're saying makes sense to me, and I've experienced split image blackout with film cameras myself...makes things more difficult, to be certain. Again, to state my reason for doing this is being able to use large aperture manual lenses. I've tried with a K-5 before, and anything more open than a 2.8 is a roll of the dice, especially in low light. Pretty easy for me in my twenties, not so easy now. :) If I'm understanding correctly, a different screen will only be a major issue in smaller aperture lenses and maintaining metering consistency vs. aperture? I tend to avoid anything smaller than a 2.8, in any case. I need speed for what I like to shoot, and if I can't get the size I need for my budget, I'll just wait until I do. That said, do you think it would be worthwhile to change out my screen? I shoot a good portion of my work in manual, and can keep the exposure compensation stored in my brain--assuming linearity from stop to stop is consistent. (I'm not big on using in-camera analysis for my shots. I learned on a Canon QL17 quite a while ago, and what it provided still works for me today.)

Sent the lens to Eric for cleaning. He said it can easily be cleaned, and the fungus removed. I'll have it back in a couple weeks. When I do, I'll post some images. Can't wait to use it! Thanks for the advice on getting it in usable shape--appreciated, for sure.

I've acquired a few large aperture primes I want to use with my K-5 (like a 50 1.2). It's damn near impossible
to accurately focus with the standard focusing screen supplied from the factory. Will changing out the focusing screen
cause af problems? If not, where can I get a good one, and any recommendations on changing it out without damaging the mirror,
prism or sensor?

I paid $20.00 for the lens. It isn't an f2, it is a 1.2, unless my
Eyes see a colon instead of a period...and this lens happens
to be larger and much heavier than a 1.4, lol. Not sure what series it is--
by "M", I was referring to manual aperture. I think it's worth saving.

Already posted this question, but no one seems to be responding in the other section. Have a 50 1.2 manual just purchased. Heavy dust on inner elements, and slight fungus on the outer rim of one of them. I'd really like to see this lens in new(er) shape. Anyone know where I can get it thoroughly cleaned in and out? (And possibly have the fungus-attacked element recoated?)

Recently picked up an SMC-M 50 1.2. No scratches whatsoever, very slight amount of fungus (appx. .5 mm) around the edge of an element. Otherwise, apeture leaves work wonderfully, smooth focus, a beautiful lens. One problem: The inner elements have a significant amount of dust. By significant, I mean visable to the naked eye when holding close wide open. Not sure how this will affect images, as I don't currently have a body to attach it to...planning on picking up a K-5 sometime soon. In any case, I do primarily portraiture (in mixed outdoor light usually) and want to use this lens! Can anyone point me to someone who can clean this lens up? I'd do it myself, but I have not a spanner nor the expertise to do so.
