This is a star trail photo taken during a "super" moon, which may explain why there are not more stars visible. Ayer's rock, also known as Uluru is pretty much slap bang in the middle of Australia, the so called dead heart. Can you imagine the excitement of the first white explorers as they discovered this? A giant monolith that rises out of the desert, a truly mystical and wonderous place. The local indigenous folk have declared it sacred and climbing it is forbidden. This photo was a mix of quite a few photos taken over a 90 minute period. The big colours are due to the final photo being edited in Picasa. Really quite cool how the star trails have different colours. The big red rock you see is actually that colour by day but I was amazed at how vivid the colour was with the long exposure shots. Alas, I noticed too late that there was dust on the sensor. I tried to remove it but my skill are unfortunately not quite good enough.

This is my favourite photo of the year. I have been trying to get this one for years and on November the 4th it finally happened (Nov 5th in USA). I think it may be outside the parameters to win the K70 but I would love to win it as I have heard (not confirmed) that the K70 has outstanding low light/high iso capability and this would very much suit this style of photography. Might be a fraction lighter to carry too!

I have no experience with this seller either, but that seems like a very good buy to me

My memory of Notre Dam was being in Spain at the time and seeing the footage of the fire from a distance. It didn't need to be in English for me to appreciate the gravity of the situation. Pictures do paint a thousand words.

I'm interested in knowing which hdmi connection you would need for this. Obviously it is not big enough to be a normal hdmi connection. So, if not then what exactly is the size? And would the same size connection also fit my k1?

Yes, this is correct. I attached my 55-300 PLM to the Ks1 with AB and yes, yes, yes, it works perfectly. My favourite lens with my close to becoming my favourite camera. A match made in AB heaven!

The thing that worries me is having a screw left over when I put it back together, and wondering how essential that screw really was ---------- Post added 12-13-21 at 09:31 AM ----------
The soldering is the other thing which worries me. I'm ok but do I need to be excellent at soldering? The good news is that according to the videos, you can separate the solenoid for all the rest of the insides of the camera before you take out the soldering gun

I heard that the white solenoid is preferred. Could you please point me in the direction of where to get one? And I also heard somewhere that you can remove the solenoid from an old MX type camera, although not sure about which one to get (I think there are 2) Don't suppose you could fill me in on that too?

I find that when I have the aperture ring on A and take a photo in modes such as Auto, P, AV and tAV that the photo taken is black. I will be delighted to be corrected if I am wrong of course

I agree with the AF-360 FGZ recommendation. A very versatile flash indeed. Be aware though that it doesn't swivel left and right

I believe that some manual focus lenses are more accurate than others. For example, my old smc 50mm F1.7 is spot on, but my Samyang 85mm F1.4 is almost impossible to focus at F1.4. I usually resort to just imagining it is an F2.5 lens and if so manual focus works well. Using focus peaking in live view does work pretty well though I admit.

On a similar subject, how accurate is the external GPS unit compared to say the in body one on the K1? Does anyone have experience with both?. How quickly for example is the signal acquired?

1893 for me. The little balls of light present a point of interest for me. But it is subjective, for sure

I wonder if there is any consensus out there on which old Pentax film bodies are still reliable. For example, I have 2 ME Supers and on both of them, the winder is stuck. I also have a couple of MX50's and the gears on the winder appear to be stripped, so they don't work either. What is left that might be reliable?

Hello all. I have a Ks1 with the dreaded aperture block issue but I heard somewhere that some operations may still be possible. If so, then this could be goodish news. Here is what I have discovered so far.
If I use a lens with aperture markings on the ring, I sometimes get perfectly exposed shots
In manual, I can use any aperture and use the green button to determine the correct exposure and it works. The shutter speed seems to change, and the exposure is correct
In auto modes I can set any aperture on the lens and the camera will expose correctly. BUT, is it just using the most wide open aperture? I don't know
It seems to expose correctly in live view mode too
My question is: what exactly is still possible to do with a camera with the aperture block issue?

It surprises and pleases me that the K1000 is still so popular. And on the second hand market it still attracts a relatively high price tag. They said it was the perfect camera for learners of photography. Maybe true but surely there were other cameras out there that were equally as good. Is this blasphemy?

This is good to see Adam. I did note yesterday on YouTube there was a comparison of the auto focus capabilities of the K3i versus the K3iii. It was very interesting to see how the new K3iii performed in the field. How did it go? Spoiler alert: The K3iii was significantly better.

Interestingly I had an old 70-210 SMC that I purchased back in 1984. At the time on film I wasn't really thrilled about it (maybe it was me) However, on the K1 it is amazing. The colour is brilliant and it is amazingly sharp. Still manual focus but I am so glad I hung onto it.

It seems that products such as Sony for example have converters available to convert Pentax lenses to the Sony format. This may be helping to make the used Pentax lenses more expensive to purchase. I think this may well be true of some vintage film lenses which can be used on full frame cameras. As the full frame cameras become more affordable and ubiquitous, the demand for vintage lenses increase.
