the only difference between them is that the iii has an integrated RF receiver....
this is very useful if you want to use the flash off camera...
my recommendation is to buy the iii, you'll definitely want to try off camera flash some time.

i can confirm, its a magnificent combo ! limited or xs, pancakes are amazing on these bodies...
:-) also i was surprised when i used the 18-55wr, vigniette from 18 to ~22 but after that tack sharp images across the frame ! i was amazed !

well i dont have the 18-135, but i have the 50-200wr which is a little bit longer
k-5+50-200 ~15cm (zoomed out)
so i think it'll be ok if you have the hood backwards...
if the hood is in place(extended), it wont fit.

hahaha i do that too !
but i know its not only me... one time i was waiting for the train k-5 in my hand, and a big dude approached me... he reached in his messenger bag and pulled out a k-5+18-135, and started a conversation :-p i was so delighted ! i wasnt alone !!!

only repetitive patterns, fabric, bricks from far away, the windows of a skyscraper... if the subject has straight vertical and/or horizontal lines that line up with the pixel mesh of the sensor, thats when you get moire.
so it will be ok for natural, organic patterns...
