My AF540FGZ also stuck in the hot shoe of my k10D. Using the outlined procedure I removed the screws and was able to free it and stop it from locking in the shoe again. However be aware, as I found out during a recent trip to Germany, that the flash can fall off the camera. Mine did and wreaked havoc on the flash. Luckily it was still under warranty and Pentax fixed the cracked lens, destroyed circuit board, and re-alinged the flash tube.
Be extra careful to make certain at regular intervals that the flash is secure in the hot show at all times!

egordon99, thanks a bunch for your suggestion about moving to AF-S vs AF-C. It worked!

Thanks for the resposes. Spoke with Pentax about all the things I tried with the k10d and how the spot beam won't work. It will however work on my ist DL. They said to send to them because it sounds like a circuit board issue.

Recently purchased a k10D in 10/07 and have owned a ist DL for 2 years. Purchased an AF-540 FGZ flash to use with both cameras and have run into a problem with the red spot beam from the flash in low light conditions. The spot beam works on the ist DL, but won't on the k10d. I'm using the latest firmware v1.3 for the camera and have tried the p-TTL setting as well as the SB setting on the flash to no avail. Is this a camera issue? Does anyone out there have any experience in this area? Would love to hear from you.
