The last display was quickly made up from cardboard and gaffer tape. This one looks far more "official".
It seems Ricoh intended this to be the first showing, but some US marketeer had a different idea...

Well, the camera was displayed sitting on a cardboard box, put together with black duct tape. I would expect Ricoh to be a little more "formal" when presenting a new high-end product. |

They should let some specs get leaked to keep interest up. I have applied to be financed for new equipment and unfortunately, if my application gets approved, i will have to go with Nikon...
I was really hoping Pentax would introduce a competitor next month...

I don't know why nobody has mentioned it yet, but, Multishot (hi res mode) with the new 42 MPx sensor will be the landcsape photographer's dream.
But, if the rumour's true, price will be well over $2K (closer to $3K) so, not for me...

Baby snails fully cover a wooden post in my backyard.
Shot at my backyard with a K20D and the infamous Cosina 100mm F3.5 Macro on a tripod. Remote flash with a ring macro reflector on another tripod placed above the subject.

I agree, but most probably the sensor will be 16Mpx.

I also like the new logo a lot better than the one on my current Pentax DSLRs.
It looks much more robust and much more "even".

First, unlike the K-5, it might have decent video.
Second, by the time the K-5 is gone for good, this will probably sell at 559 - 599 (body)...

Doesn't this cover almost everything that K-r users asked for?
K-5 sensor, full HD video, weather sealing, 2 dials, more "Pro" looks, "RAW" button, 3 AF modes and possibly some more stuff I missed.
So, what's all that whining about?
This will sell at exactly the same price as the K01 and it's a "REAL" camera (the contoured bottom hints that there will also be a grip for it) with the undoubtedly great IQ of both the K01 and the K-5. If the video mode from the K01 is retained - or even better improved, this will probably be a competition killer.
If this is what the K-r succesor is, I can't wait to see what the K-5 succesor will be.
A great camera at a great price, kudos to both Pentax and Ricoh.

Is it really? What is the point of the warranty then? A manufacturer can simply overprice parts for discontinued products and actually declare every product that dies after its warranty has expired as BER. If you are right, then kudos to your country - allow me to have my doubts though.
I believe that if Pentax proceeds with this practice, second-hand prices will go up as most cameras will be broken and sold for parts, even the ones sold in "as-is" state.
In the end however, it all depends on how good the factory service is. LG has done the same in Europe and it works far better than any repair shop could ever do. You call them, give them a description of the problem, the S/N and the purchase invoice number and they send you a courier that picks the defective unit from your place and gives you a working one (a new one if it's within a few days from purchase, a refurbished one if not).
I know that we are more sentimental with our cameras and that we would probably not accept replacement with a refurbished product, but it is a decent solution for the ones that reside far from any authorised service point.

This is not a new rumour.
Ever since the NEX-7 sensor was introduced, a K-5s was immediately inroduced to the rumour mill.
The sensor isn't bad at all. In fact, according to DxOMark, it is the best APS sensor in the market, as measured in the Sony NEX-7 - without a semi-translucent mirror in front of it.
Changes expected are a slight rearrangement of some buttons to make room for a "direct movie capture" button, a better screen and a new more powerfull processor.
Otherwise, it will be identical to the K-5 which will not be discontinued, but remain in production at a reduced price.
To me, this is a product that makes perfect sense and I'm looking forward to.

No 24Mpx FF.
This rumour is about the K5 "improvement".
The new body is rumoured to be the same as the body of K7-K5 with only minor tweaks (button layout changes slightly to include a direct movie capture feature) and possibly a better (not bigger) screen.
The sensor seems to be the expected Sony one, as used in the NEX7.
It was expected to be released in June, but apparently all Pentax releases have fallen behind after the latest merge, and September seems to be the most logical release date.
It is worth noticing that after releasing this, the K5 will not be discontinued, but remain in production.

But the Video is better by far. Even treating it as a high end K-mount Video camera that takes wonderfull photographs, makes it a bargain to me.

Yeah, I would also consider an FF mirrorless at $749... ;)
Still, proper video controls, good continuous AF plus 60fps 720p will do the job for me. If the SR doesn't misbehave while shooting video it will be a perfect bonus.
I can see my self buying a K01 just for video (no use for an EVF there after all), especially as my dealer suggests a street price of 559 euros for the summer.
I just hope video quality will be on a par with the NX5n.
And since I am getting sick of all this retro-mania, I do believe the camera looks fresh. Hopefully, while other manufacturers go retro, Pentax will build cameras looking towards the future.

And how can this deep curve on the right be from the digit "1". I have done a lot of graphic designing and I can hardly remember a typeface that depicts "1" in such a way.
IMHO it's either K-ONE or K-01.
*** (edit) OK, I just put my foot in my mouth (or keyboard) and went back to bed. Forgive me, I have a terrible cold with fever and I guess I am a little disoriented...

I hoped this would be something really revolutionary - a real paradigm shift.
After the official presentation, it seems to me nothing more than a gimmick that managed to attract heavy attention.

My K5 shows no visible noise in ISO400.
However, I would like to see these samples you mention for myself. Could you please post some links?

Well, that was my original idea too, but DPReview has new samples from the NX200 and the ISO3200 photos don't seem to be anything special at all. Too much processing and lots of grain. There is a huge difference from the images posted in the Korean forum.
The K5 outperforms it easily, in fact, I won't be surprised if the K5's measured resolution will be higher that the NX200 in ISO3200 despite the sensor's pixel count.
