It looks like exposure is measured at a small area of frame (maybe at the center of frame). May be you should to check the selected Metering Method.

I think that's the camera trying to change the exposure settings. Unfortunately, manual video controls beyond EV shift aren't available on the K-5 (they are on the K-01 and K-30, though).

you want a panasonic g3 or a camcorder like the sony vg30, vg900
or the "Ae-lock" button to prevent the camera from adjusting the exposure on the fly.

This series really speaks to me... I used to farm and I had all of the animals in these shots as well as very large sunflowers. I love the pig shot :) and the Gull walking toward you is very cool within that depth of field. The post processing suits the images too. Thanks for sharing!

I must have been thru there two dozen times. I never "saw" your first image when I looked at it!

I like it! Good job! Nice use of HDR.

Nice shots. The milky way sure is fun to photograph, I'm looking forward to seeing it more next spring. You might want to try increasing the iso even more, the k-5 can handle it.

Nice series. I like the first and third ones the best. Sky photography is an art that I have never tried either. Good job.

I've shot it a couple times. I think for the milky way you want the widest fastest lens you can get. I've tried several lenses, and I currently use a Samyang 14mm f2.8, but I will probably trade that in for the recently announced Samyang 10mm f2.8. The goal is to capture the most light without letting the stars trail. So settings of 30 seconds, f2.8, iso 3200 and up usually work well. But I still have a lot to learn, I've only been to truly dark skies once.

Re-Bonjour,

The K-5 is a lot of DSLR to master and would be a daunting learning curve ... take you time and advance at your own pace.

There's a decent book you might want to look at ... The "Magic Lantern Guides - Pentax K-7 - Peter Burian" ... it's obviously for the K-7, which I had before my K-5, yet +90% of this book is accurate for the K-5, IMHO. They are the same bodies and basic functionalities ... and you could find a used one cheap on flea-bay, Amazon, etc.

Allez et bon courage, John le Frog

Welcome. I am a died-in-the-wool, born and raised Bay Area native. I moved up to the Sierra Foothills a few years back to have a horse property. My first outing with my DSLR wasn't that great either, but it didn't take long for me to start having lots of fun. You have a really nice camera :D. I got the K-r and am now hooked on the Pentax system. Do yourself a favor and take that mighty camera of yours up to Fort Point and capture some images of the Golden Gate with your 18-55mm kit lens (if you got this one with it). It's a good lens for the bridge.
