I will be in Nepal for 2 weeks.
Full Moon will occur on 17-18 December. I will be near the mountains from 24 December to 3 January.
I don't know whether I can do a test this weekend. I'm in Sydney and it'll be raining / cloudy.

I'm heading to Nepal next weekend. I will take the k-5, 18-135mm, 35mm f/2.4 and 15mm f/4. I have never successfully shot the stars. I know I will likely to see beautiful stars near the Himalaya while I'm there. Just wondering if anyone has any tips/tricks/techniques of how to go about it with these 3 lenses that I have... Day time snowy mountain photo technique appreciated too.

Thanks.. It's on its way to me, but I wish I made the decision just a tad earlier.. Now it doesn't look like I will receive it before I take off to Alice Springs and Uluru on Friday
It's not weather resistant is it? Would love to take it on the volcanoes in New Zealand this winter. But it rains a lot there.

But, I'll get the DA 15mm, not only for Japan, but for other travelling as well. In the end, I love shooting sceneries a lot better than shooting portraits (well, i dont shoot portraits at all)
However, the DA15 isn't weather resistent is it? I want to take it up to the volcanoes in new zealand during winter, but it rains / snows / etc a lot up there.

Gosh.. Usually the 18-135 stays on my camera the most ..
My hubby (who is not even remotely interested in photos) is going to be super annoyed if I have to switch between 4 lenses all the time lol

We're only going be there for 8 days so I guess even when I don't fit in the fashion scene, it's ok.. Worst is I buy new clothes when I'm there, since I'm Chinese so most clothes should fit me straight on, but my husband won't be impressed about $$$ spent..
I bet it's easier for you guys because your gf is a native Japanese speaker too. I love observing people, but unfortunately it will have to be done in a rush.
I love the prime lenses but changing them is such a royal pain
I find that even if I only use my tripod once in an entire trip, I still feel bad if I don't bring it at all .. "just in case" thinking

I've got the cheap 35mm 2.4 and DA* 55mm , which one should I take to Japan?
Should I get DA 15mm?
Your high heel comments made me worried ;'( I don't think I can handle wearing them when I'm rushing a week over there

Such beautiful photos you've got there - you should be my k-5 tutor in Sydney .. =)
Beautiful girl too - was she carrying a Pentax Q? Wasn't her feet tired travelling in high heeled boots? =)

I might try to use it in Sydney for the first time this weekend. Lovely to see people actually like a product coming from my home country
I actually bought it from a local shop in Sydney for the same price as on B&H Photo, really happy about that

Reading the sign is not a problem. I read English, and I read all the Kanji characters.
However I'm just debating with myself whether I should bring a tripod to Japan at all. I know that on the Tokyo Skytree and Mori Tower you can't bring or use tripods or monopods at all.. MAY be able to sneak in a gorillapod ... I might get a gorillapod. The concerns lie within my ability to carry things while travelling - I am a petite person and even a 1.2 kg tripod as extra weight is a bit of a worry (I weigh 40-something kg myself). But if it's really useful I'd carry it

Yes I need some $ but would still love to have a good prime .. I have also got the 35mm 2.4 but obviously the DA*55 1.4 produces higher quality images.
Should I sell the DA* 55 and get a DA 50mm 1.8? Does the DA50mm 1.8 have better image results than the 35mm 2.4 or about the same?

The Golden Pavilion in Kyoto does not allow tripods. I don't think they allow you to carry them in either..
